The German – African Business Association (Afrika-Verein) is improving German- African Business relations since 90 years. It is the key German foreign trade association for businesses and institutions with an interest in Africa. The currently over 500 members can draw from a wide array of experience and knowledge. Through its quality network of contacts in Africa the Afrika-Verein senses the pulse of African markets and provides insights about current developments on the continent. The Afrika-Verein further creates networking opportunities and represents members` interest both domestically and abroad, in order to best satisfy its members` needs and expectations. Information is compiled in a biweekly published newsletter, and in the „afrika wirtschaft“, a bilingual magazine that keeps track of German-African business relations and informs about events such as business forums, delegation visits or regional round table meetings. Moreover, the Afrika-Verein offers business trips to African countries, organizes business days as well as regional, country and branch specific events about current hot topics. These include country forums like the German-Angolan Business Forum, the German-Ghanaian Business Forum, the German-Nigerian Business Forum and the German-South African-Business Forum. The Afrika-Verein additionally offers an annual industry forum for topics like energy, finance or agriculture. Members` interests are represented in the leading policy bodies and institutions in African states, as well as in Brussels and Germany. Here, the Afrika-Verein can rely on its wide network within the German political Africa scene. Moreover, Afrika-Verein is a member of the European Business Council for Africa (EBCAM). Afrika-Verein is also part of the two biggest regional initiatives of the German economies for North Africa and the Middle-East (NMI) and for Southern Africa (SAFRI).

Die frühere Bundeskanzlerin #AngelaMerkel wird heute 70 Jahre alt. Oft vergessen wird, dass sie vor allem in den letzten Jahren ihrer Amtszeit prägenden Einfluss auf die deutsche und internationale #Afrikapolitik genommen hat, insbesondere durch den unter ihrer #G20 Präsidentschaft initiierten Compact with Africa - #CwA. Als Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (German - African Business Association) haben wir ihre Präsenz bei den CwA-Investitionsgipfeln sehr geschätzt. Es ist gut, dass die aktuelle #Bundesregierung hier Kontiuität pflegt. Ich selbst habe es als bereichernd empfunden, diese kluge und ungewöhnliche Politikerin auch in früheren beruflichen Stationen aus der Nähe beobachten zu können, etwa als stellvertretender Generalsekretär der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung oder in den späten 1990er Jahren als Arbeitsmarkt-Geschäftsführer bei der BDA | Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Arbeitgeberverbände. Therefore, we are very pleased to announce that our CEO, Christoph Kannengiesser, has been reelected for three more years to the Executive Committee of EBCAM. We also congratulate Étienne GIROS, President of Cian - Conseil français des investisseurs en Afrique, on his reelection as President and Alexandros Spachis on his renomination as Secretary General. The interconnectedness with such esteemed European partners within EBCAM is of paramount importance to the mission of Afrika-Verein.
