Por isto é importante o time de TI ter revisões periódicas do uso do orçamento, para que os líderes táticos e estratégicos tenham pleno conhecimento para que em situações onde seja necessário aplicar algum corte ou redução o façam sem impactar demandas que possam impactar o negócio

If the IT budget is slashed by more than 30% and for more than 1 year, we have to be realistic that there will be impact to the long term goals. There are 2 immediate tasks: 1. Alignment and communication. While we will always try to do more with less, it is not sustainable and thus it is critical to highlight any potential gaps to the senior leadership / stakeholders. There need to be an alignment on the priorities with a greatly reduced budget 2. Explore alternatives. Remember any alternative is a compromise to the original planned goals. Some alternatives to consider: consider a local vendor who can provide services at lower cost, having multi-year maintenance may reduce cost per year, delay non-critical project/upgrades etc.

Be realistic. Lay out clearly to your management what can and cannot be done. Make them understand the compromises that need to be made. Prioritize what you can but always make sure that the leadership understands what will not get done and that they need to accept the risks around the same. More often than not, such cuts happen because business isn't doing good. Most importantly, never feel guilty for not being able to do the things you had planned.
