In my experience, Vision is often overrated. What drives innovative teams forward, is progress - that’s the best motivation of all. Intelligent people want to be challenged in a certain way. To do that, a team leader should be reasonably good at defining and categorizing the problem(s) to be solved (not the solution) and facilitating meaningful interaction among team members (asking difficult questions, listening and thinking before answering, mediating conflict if necessary, etc.) this is already practical enactment of values.
