🎉 ANOTHER MAJOR PPA SIGNED! 🎉 Actis-backed Rezolv Energy has signed a major Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Bekaert, a global leader in steel wire transformation and coating technologies. Here are the details: 📝 Bekaert will buy 100GWh of additional renewable power per year for 10 years 🚀 This is one of the largest PPAs ever signed in the region 📉 Through the VPPA, Bekaert will reduce its annual emissions by more than 41,000 tonnes of CO2e 👷 It will help enable the construction of the first phase of the 461MW ‘VIFOR’ wind farm, which Rezolv and Low Carbon have developed in Buzău County, Romania 💨 Phase 1 of the VIFOR project will install 192MW in capacity – Phase 2 will make a further 700GWh available to corporate buyers Alastair Hammond, Rezolv’s CEO, said: “We are proud to be contributing to Bekaert’s decarbonisation objectives through this VPPA. By signing it, Bekaert is also enabling the first phase of the VIFOR project, a large-scale wind farm which will play a significant role in Romania’s energy transition. Phase 2 will help us meet even more of the widespread corporate demand for clean power.” Korpanec, Jaroslava, Partner and Head of Central and Eastern Europe, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, said: “The signing of this VPPA is another marker of momentum for Rezolv Energy. It’s one of the largest VPPAs ever signed in Romania and thanks to this agreement, Bekaert is able to decarbonise and rely on clean, wind energy for its power supply. It has been an incredibly busy month for our entire team! We have been fully engaged in closing PPA deals (https://lnkd.in/dVfGtYUD) and securing finance loan facilities (https://lnkd.in/dXmyNHVn) – leading up to the ground-breaking ceremony at our VIFOR project in Buzău County, Romania (https://lnkd.in/ds2YyXaP).   Our summer wave of announcements is not over yet – stay tuned for more to come soon – but around all of the work priorities, we have still found time to have fun and take part in two initiatives with a positive sustainability impact:   🏃 🏃♀️ Yesterday, Rezolv’s teams participated in the UniCredit Prague Relay 2024. Participants were able to pay an extra contribution to support a tree planting project, which we all did. Well done to everyone who took part – an excellent effort on a warm day in the middle of Prague. ⏬ Many thanks to the organisers for putting on a fantastic event with such a great atmosphere.   🚴 🚴 We also took part in the ‘Do práce na kole’ (Bike to Work) challenge throughout May. The project is now in its 14th year and aims to motivate as many people as possible to switch to non-motorised transportation. It’s good for the individuals who take part, it also contributes to cleaner air and a healthier city in which to live and work. SolarPower Europe’s annual Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2024-2028 was published just ahead of European Solar Day on 21 June, and it was an encouraging read, particularly for those of us with a focus on South Eastern Europe.   Here are some of the key highlights for this region:   🌞 Last year, 31 countries across the world installed more than 1GW of new solar capacity, three more than in 2022. Two of the new entrants on the list were Romania (1.5GW) and Bulgaria (1.2GW).   🏅 Romania makes the top 20 ranking of countries which is set to add the most solar PV capacity between 2024 and 2028 – entering the list in 19th place!   📈 The compound annual growth rate for solar additions in Romania in this period is 40%, the second fastest of the Top 20 countries (narrowly behind Saudi Arabia).   🌍 Market concentration in Europe is decreasing rapidly. In 2019, the top 10 markets installed 95% of solar capacity in the EU; the top 5 accounted for 78%. By the end of this year, the top 10 are estimated to account for 80% of the installed capacity while the top 5 will only cover 60% – a trend which is set to continue. This year, Romania and Bulgaria will contribute 3% and 2% of the EU total respectively.   Rezolv is very proud to be contributing to this positive trend through our two major solar projects – Dama Solar in Romania (https://lnkd.in/df3dFKag) and St. George in Bulgaria (https://lnkd.in/dM2DAXxk).   However, despite this progress, the targets are still 17% below the REPowerEU target, so more work is needed, and not just on solar – on wind energy as well. #EuropeanSolarDay #SolarPower #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #cleanpower #sustainability #SEE

Last week I had the opportunity to discuss the topic of decarbonization at the Decarb Connect Europe 2024. On the panel with the title: “Problem-solving industrial challenges and making the most of opportunities along the path to net zero” I discussed with my fellow panalists Elena Guede Vazquez from #CRH, Ivar Sund Fossum from #Nordic Mining and Jan-Dirk van Loon from #LydondellBassell about the challenges and opportunities we see in the different sectors. It became clear that the devil lies in the details – be it either infrastructure for hydrogen, CCU/CCS or the electricity grid that are needed to decarbonize the different sectors a certain need for plannability is needed to make the decisions now and this unites us again. Clear is: We need answers to all of these questions – because technologies like CCU/CCS are crucial to combine the competitiveness and decarbonization of Germany and Europe! I was thrilled to share some insights of our #H2-ready Anode furnaces that were installed into our plant in Hamburg just the week before the event and has the potential to decrease our Scope 1 Emissions by 5.000 t/a in the future. However, we will need a reliable infrastructure and hydrogen at compatible prices to make the next steps. This is especially important as the commodity copper is traded on the exchanges and no differentiation of green copper is possible. Furthermore, during this currently running shut-down the plant in Hamburg is increasing the #Industrialheat delivery to the city of Hamburg which will allow the city to substitute heat produced with fossil fuels by heat from our processes. At our plant in Pirdop 4 solar parks are installed that will reduce our Scope 2 emissions and the reliance on the local grid while other sites go for PPAs or wind power plants like our Belgium sites. This shows how individual sites need also individual options to decarbonize. When it comes to emissions inside the value chain the mines play a crucial role in the metal industry and for that partnering up and transferring of knowledge is key to go the path to net-zero together. Such conferences add value by facilitating new contacts and ideas to progress. However, decarbonization is not only a topic of expert-forums but also a topic for meetings at fairs and with suppliers as seen for example in our cooperation agreement with Codelco on a responsible copper production.    This shows how #Aurubis views decarbonization and that we are a forerunner when it comes to testing and applying decarbonization options. Energetická krize nás naučila mnoho. ⚡ Dříve jsme jednou za rok zrealizovali forwardový nákup elektřiny a klidně čekali na další rok. Z hlediska materiality elektřina nebyla významná položka naší výsledovky. Šok v roce 2022 nás přinutil přemýšlet o nákupu elektřiny skoro denně. Museli jsme pochopit fungování trhu s elektrickou energií do větších detailů a hledat další pilíře dlouhodobé hedgingové strategie i třeba PPA (Power Purchase Agreement). Při hledání vhodného PPA partnera, jsme zjistili, jak v rané fázi se tento trh nachází v Česku i na Slovensku. Najít dostatečně velký zdroj, ideálně větrný, bylo velkou výzvou. 💡 Po více než ročním kontinuálním skenování trhu můžeme dnes s hrdostí oznámit uzavření dlouhodobého virtuálního PPA kontraktu se společností Rezolv Energy. Jedná se o první přeshraniční virtuální PPA v Česku a na Slovensku. 🥇 💡 Kontrakt pokryje 50 % spotřeby elektřiny v T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. a Slovak Telekom, čímž plníme jeden z našich ESG cílů. 🌱 💡 Zároveň nám kontrakt slouží jako další pilíř dlouhodobé hedgingové strategie 💡 Kontrakt umožnil vznik skutečného obnovitelného zdroje a to konkrétně větrného parku v Rumunsku. Vyjednávat celý kontrakt za obě naše společnosti pro mne byla obrovská škola. Naštěstí jsem na to nebyla sama, ale měla jsem vedle sebe kolegy Kamil Bodo, Juraj Hermann a Jan Valenta - výborná práce!👏
