We're excited to see Allegro Energy flow batteries featured in The Wall Street Journal article, "How Can You Stop Batteries From Catching Fire? Perhaps by Adding Some Water." It's an honor that our stacks play a part in such an impactful development of new energy storage technology.
Proud to see Allegro Energy's world-changing invention getting world-wide attention in The Wall Street Journal, highlighting the strength of regional manufacturing and Australian know-how. The article showcased our microemulsion flow battery technology as a leader in the next generation of grid-scale energy storage, a space that, confirmed by the WSJ, investors are "pouring money into." A big focus of the story is our technology's ability to eliminate the massive fire risk that lithium and other storage modalities pose while driving down costs. As the paper's Stuart Condie writes after interviewing our CEO Thomas Nann: "But so-called long-duration batteries, such as those destined to store energy generated by solar panels or wind farms, don’t need to be small or light. That means lower voltages can be used, making water-based electrolytes viable. It also means metals that are heavier and cheaper than lithium can be used. 'The cost factor of course is important to our customers and that’s usually the first thing that hooks them. But it’s also not flammable,' says Thomas Nann, chief executive of Australia’s Allegro Energy, a maker of water-based batteries. Australia’s largest power company, Origin Energy has taken a 5% stake in Allegro and is about to start a trial of the Allegro battery." As the story also notes, while it can be difficult for ventures in this space to get off the ground, Allegro with patents, funding, and manufacturing facilities, as well as riding clear global demand , and ongoing Allegro is in a compelling leadership position in this critical next evolution in enabling safe, long duration energy storage at scale. And now we're turning heads globally and catching the notice of the most prominent newspapers. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gUFHqmmw EnergyLab The Hon.
