The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. The Goethe-Institut Czech Republic in Prague coordinates the work of the cultural institutes in Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In these countries, the Goethe-Institut has a dense network of complementary organisations and institutions for the promotion of German language and culture and for information about Germany. The Goethe-Institut organises cultural programmes in all areas. Our library provides information on contemporary cultural and social life in Germany. It offers extensive book and media collections for anyone who is interested in Germany or who wants to learn or teach German.

Herzliche Glückwünsche an die wunderbare Radka Denemerková, neues Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung! Sie ist die erste tschechische Schriftstellerin in diesem wichtigen Gremium seit der Ernennung der inzwischen verstorbenen Libuše Moníková im Jahr 1993. Radkas Bücher sind in viele Sprachen übersetzt, natürlich auch ins Deutsche. Sie wurde vielfach ausgezeichnet, u.a. mit dem Brücke-Berlin-Preis, was wir 2022 in der Václav Havel Bibliothek ausführlich gefeiert haben (siehe Foto). Václav Havel selbst war Ehrenmitglied der Akademie. Die hohe Auszeichnung wurde am letzten Sonntag in einem ausführlichen Beitrag im tschechischen Fernsehen gewürdigt, und es war mir eine große Freude, auch ein paar Worte zu sagen: https://lnkd.in/ezp9uSDR Ihr aktuelles Buch "Stunden aus Blei" (2022) erschien bei Hoffmann und Campe, aber ich empfehle auch "Ein herrlicher Flecken Erde" (2009). Leichte Kost, wird man bei dieser Autorin nicht finden, aber es lohnt sich.
