See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Like, this may come as a shock to people like Tumblr liberals who are totally stuck in the Western anglophone neoliberal ideology echo-chamber but like, outside of the west, out there where the majority of the worlds people live, Kwame Nkrumah’s thought is taken more seriously than Milton Friedman’s. So why will left liberals engage with Friedman’s thought, even if only to debunk it, but not engage at all with Nkrumah’s writings on neocolonialism, and just write it off?

There’s a common charge leveled by supposedly “open-minded” liberals toward anti-imperialists, that we just ‘blindly’ support any force that’s contravailing US the US on a regional or global scale, but how am I supposed to take this seriously as anything but projection?

We anti-imperialists often make specific, verifiable claims about happenings in global geopol, such as that the so-called “Free Syrian Army” consisted mostly of salafi jihadists allowed into Syria through their northern border with Turkey, and that it doesn’t make sense that a civil war could simply Materialize in a country like Syria which right before the war started had one of the lowest ratios of guns to people in the world, or that the Maidan coup regime that swept into power in Kiev in 2014 was heavily infiltrated with fascists, and would not have been able to consolidate power without the instrumentalisation of fascist gangs and paramilitary organizations.

The liberal response to these specific claims, then, is to point to reports from corporate media with every incentive to lie, themselves doing no independent investigation but instead parroting verbatim the word of the State Department as fact, and dismissing all independent media investigations out of hand with no further thought.

In a situation such as this, can that response really be considered “open-minded”? It seems that time and time again intellectual rigor is reserved for discussions of technocratic tinkering within the west’s iron curtain, and not the lives of people outside of it.

There’s plenty of brain-juice to be expended on justifying why the US economy is actually in good shape and the people saying they’re struggling more than before are just stupid, but when it comes to considering why African heads of state choose the China Development Bank over the IMF as an economic partner or Russia over the NATO states as security partners, these leaders of millions are dismissively written off as histrionically anti-Western, paranoid, and too mentally weak to see through Russian and Chinese propaganda. Is it this really a "rational’ way to look at the world?

Personally, I think not.

this is just one example as to why i always say trust al jazeera/aj+ as a reliable source when it comes to palestine, but be very wary of the qatari funded network as they are known for publishing sectarian propaganda in arabic and deceptive info in english on topics that don"t pertain to palestine. here"s aj+ glorifying sarout:

portraying him as a hero and not mentioning his affiliation with jabhat al nusra or daesh in that tweet because qatar also has a hand in syria. here"s the true face and voice of the revolution-- propagandist genocidaire sarout:

Jenin, West Bank, Update by RNN:

The wide scale zionist-PA joint aggression continues on Jenin and its refugee camp for the third consecutive day. The same images of displacement from Gaza repeat themselves in Jenin:

image

Fires broke out in homes within Tal"at Al-Ghabz near the camp, many turned by the IOF into military outposts.

Fires also engulfed homes in Al-Jabriyat and Mahyoub Street, further spreading to nearby civilian residences due to continued IOF attacks.

Serving the occupation, the treacherous Palestinian Authority arrested and assaulted fighters from the Jenin Brigade. (*media 2,3,4)

*media can’t be shown due to its violent nature - media link

Despite all the repression, fierce clashes are ongoing between resistance fighters and the IOF.

Several injuries by IOF bullets were reported throughout the day and three from IOF attacks near Jalameh checkpoint were reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Local sources reported clashes between Palestinian security forces and resistance fighters after the PA opened fire while pursuing resistance fighters in Yabad, southwest of Jenin.

Sources from Jenin Refugee Camp to Quds News Network:

Following an agreement between resistance fighters and the Palestinian Authority (PA) allowing PA security forces to enter the camp for a limited time, the resistance fighters decided to withdraw and disperse to various areas of Jenin. This decision was made to avoid potential betrayal by the PA, prevent their pursuit inside the camp, and to avoid bloodshed and deadly clashes should the PA attempt to arrest any of the fighters.

PA security leadership misled its personnel by claiming the agreement had been made with the resistance fighters. This move aimed to prevent PA members from leaking information to the resistance. However, with the launch of the "israeli" military operation, directives were issued for PA forces to monitor Jenin"s villages and towns, including medical centers, village outskirts, abandoned homes, mosques, and the residences of former prisoners.

PA security forces intensified their operations in the rural areas of Jenin, arresting several resistance fighters. Simultaneously, the "israeli" military pursued resistance fighters within the camp, signaling a coordinated military operation involving "israel"s" security, intelligence, and military apparatuses alongside PA security forces. The shared goal is to dismantle the resistance in Jenin. The key difference lies in rhetoric: while the occupation openly declares it is targeting resistance fighters, the PA labels them as "outlaws," "fugitives," and "Iranian mercenaries."

This is an imperfect "experiment" over a complex subject, but it"s a thing I like to do to visualize the sheer gap between the dollar and the brazilian real, which is checking "how many federal minimum wage hours would take to buy a thing". It goes like this:

Under the US federal minimum wage of USD 7.25 per hour, a copy of Sid Meier"s Civilization VI on Steam (priced at USD 59.99) would come around at 8.2 hours.

That same game is sold on Brazil at BRL 129.00. At the current federal minimum wage of BRL 6.90 per hour, that comes around at 18.6 hours.

That is, however, after the publisher has already applied Steam"s dynamic pricing to lower the cost of the game for our region. At its full dollar price, the game would cost around BRL 350, being generous with the conversion rate. How many federal minimum wage hours do you think that is?

quicadamelancolica

To further the "experiment", let"s talk a bit more about how the money is distributed:

According to the last census, about 60% of the population doesn"t even make minimum wage per household per capita.

So if you pick a Brazilian at random, the number of worked hours will probably balloon because of household expenses.

A STEM graduate (engineers, architects, programmers, etc.) fresh out of university is expected to make around 40 to 60% of US minimum wage in their first real job.

This is seen as a lot of money: enough for a person to comfortably live alone in a rented apartment; enough for a person to make a down payment on a house and pay all the installments of the mortage after two or so years of saving up.

That is to say, Brazilian Middle Class makes less than US minimum wage worker if we"re talking in raw dollar amounts.

According to the last census, over 95% of the population make less money than US minimum wage (per household per capita).

Petrobras is the biggest Brazilian company - it injects billions of reais in the Brazilian economy via taxes and government payouts alone.

Petrobras workers also tend to make a shitton of money. The most a normal Petrobras worker (i.e.: not a CEO or a Director or other high level admin) can make is a little over 16 USD / hour.

There are minimum wage workers in Bumfuck, Connecticut making more money than literal Brazilian 1%ers

so last August I was nearly legally evicted from my home after I fell behind on bills after I missed work due to an illness. I had a dear friend offer me a room for a few months but we both agreed that it would temporary as my friend prefers to live alone in the last few months I finally finished my child development certificate and recieved a small pay raise which is great and will give me more financial security however my deadline to move out is coming up April 1st I have found a small apartment in a nice area (the current area I live in is quiet and safe but very car centric so it take over an hour to get to work or to get groceries and the buses on the line are frequently breaking down so I"m often without transportation or having to pay for expensive ubers) with what seems like a decent property manager but in order to get them to hold the apartment until the 15th of february. I wasn"t legally evicted but my credit report still states that I went to housing court so it"s very hard to get an apartment with that on my record so I don"t want to lose this place but I can"t afford the deposit on my own right so I"m once again asking for financial help I just want a stable place to live and I"m so close

Foragers (2022, Jumana Manna 🇵🇸)

Za’atar and akkoub are popular herbs in Palestinian culture and cuisine. In 1977, however, Ariel Sharon declared za’atar a ‘protected plant’, rendering its foraging, possession or trade a criminal offense. Akkoub suffered a similar fate when it was labelled protected in 2005. Those who pick za’atar and akkoub subsequently became lawbreakers and in many cases were indicted and convicted. The picking of za’atar and akkoub, nonetheless, continues while many regard it as an act of resistance. (src)
