Hello, Stougard!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thank you

[edit]

I've categorised some of your images in the last couple of days and want to thank you and congratulate you on your images. The choice of black and white and the composition give the images a rather timeless quality, for a moment one is misled into thinking that this is an old image something taken 20, 30, 50 years ago, until incongruities in dress and details tell you this is China today. A far cry from the palette and the combination of glitz and grime that one normally sees. Again thanks for sharing your images.KTo288 (talk) 00:53, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stougard,
though your image File:Mother and two kids.jpg is great, I'm somewhat uncomfortable with it, as it may endanger the woman shown. Did you talk to her before or after taking the image? You'll probably know that it is still unlawful in the PRC to have more than one child and that couples having/getting a second child are being punished or even forced to abort. Putting a black bar over the eyes of the woman would destroy the image, of course. But I strongly recommend to remove any mentioning of the location, in order to decrease the risk of identification. However, as you put the location in the upload-log, this will require uploading it again without mentioning the location. And it's the same problem with File:A man and his two kids on a bike.jpg. --Túrelio (talk) 10:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback and understanding. With re-upload I meant uploading under a new name (needs only to be slightly different than the first one). As an admin I probably could delete the first version (within the current files) that contain the original upload information with the city name, but then also the log of the license etc. would be gone. Therefore, please upload the file File:Mother and two kids.jpg under a new name (for example: Mother with two kids.jpg, but that's completely your choice) and leave out the city name. As it will then be a duplicate, I can delete the first file. The same with File:A man and his two kids on a bike.jpg (new name for example: A man with two kids on a bike.jpg or A man with his kids on a bike.jpg). Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 13:20, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks for your cooperation.
I think it would not be a problem to write simply China as location either on the image description page or in the image caption on Wikimedia pages that use these images. --Túrelio (talk) 13:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dépaysement

[edit]

Voyez mes contributions...

Bonne continuation.

Hi, I've nominated your picture for featured picture here. Whilst it is getting a lot of support there are issues with the file name and people are requesting a geolocation. Could you also please edit the description more, as in, is the pelican landing or taking off, or just flapping its wings? Thank you. --Silversmith Hewwo 10:38, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Answer : This photograph has been taken in the zoo of Singapore, the bird is just flapping in water to cool himself. Photograph is in original resolution (taken with a Nikon D1h).

Paths over water in Nanjink

[edit]

Hi, I love your pictures of paths over water and would like to use one or more of them in an article. Are they located in a specific park or several parks?

I am currently working on Jiangxin Island and Jianye District.

Thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 21:53, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
