First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Goodies, tips and tricks

Are you sure, that this is correct? I dislike it. This is like advertisement. If you want to communicate to readers, that you can change licence, after some negotiation, you should do it in permission and not on the margin of infobox. Hi. I have deleted the Trevor Linden photo. Despite your work in transferring it and getting all info correct, the license on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Linden_trevor041118.jpg is too suspicious and I have tagged that image with a "no source" template. Image:Tsing Ma Bridge.jpg

Hi, you recently moved this picture to commons. The picture previously had a different name on English Wikipedia. When you moved the picture, you changed the references in the English Wikipedia articles to Image:Tsing Ma Bridge.jpg. Unfortunately, there was already an image of the same name at English Wikipedia. I cannot figure out any way to make a page use the commons image instead of the English image. I tried using [[commons:Image:Tsing Ma Bridge.jpg]], but that only makes a reference to the commons image without showing it. I'm not sure what the best way to deal with this, and am wondering if you know of any guidelines for dealing with this sort of problem. Thanks. -- Sam 16:43, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Upravné verze obrázků

Zdravím. Nezdá se mi přiliš šťastné nahrávat výrazněji upravené verze obrázků přes původní verze, pokud úprava není jen vyladěním obrázku, ale zásadnějším zásahem do jeho pojetí, jako tomu bylo v případě Image:Karštejn-1591.jpg. Od toho máme v infošabloně parametr other_version, aby mohlo více verzí téhož obrázku kooexistovat pod různými názvy a aby si případní uživatelé mohli pro různé účely vybrat ten, který je vhodnější. Já kupříkladu upřednostňuji, aby díla vystavená či umístěná v exteriéru byla fotografovaná spíše v přirozené perspektivě tak, jak je vidí běžný návštěvník, a aby byl z obrázku přiměřeně zřejmý i kontext umístění. Jiné požadavky ale budou na takový obrázek, má-li se stát nikoli fotografií díla, ale jakousi jeho kopií (jaká se hodí třeba do článku o hradě Karlštejně). --ŠJů 00:23, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Mě osobně vadí, že na Commons existuje tolik podobných obrázků. Chápu, že tvůj argument s přirozenou perspektivou a budu jej akceptovat, ale stejně si myslím, že stávající obrázek Image:Karštejn-1591.jpg je použitelnější pro články. Nedokáži si představit kdo a proč by si mezi touto verzí a původní, vybral tu původní. Prostě mi přišlo logičtější ten soubor přehrát. Takže se omlouvám za přidělanou práci jej znovu nahrát. Category:Communist labour camps in Czechoslovakia

Kolegové, prosím o Vaše vyjádření k následující kategorizaci v Commons. Už delší dobu si navzájem revertujeme s uživatelem Soman v Category:Communist labour camps in Czechoslovakia zda to má být podkategorie Category:Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy. Já se domnívám, že ano, vzhledem k tomu, že se KSČM plně neodpoutala od své minulosti a je to legální pokračovatel(ka) KSČ. Už mne tyhle revertovací války nebaví, tak bych chtěl znát váš názor. V případě, že je to zbytečné, přestanu s tím, pokud si myslíte, že ne tak mne podpořte. Já si se svým názorem úplně jistý nejsem, ale uživatele Soman, podle jeho příspěvků (extrémně levicové strany po celém světě) považuji za zaujatého. Ač má Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy hodně společného s komunistickými pracovními tábory asi nebude úplně nutné ji řadit pod její kategorii. Podle mě naprosto dostačuje, že je kategorie Category:Communist labour camps in Czechoslovakia řazena do kategorie Category:Communism.--sevela.p 08:22, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Díky za vyjádření, upravil jsem to, vytvořil Category:Communist Party of Czechoslovakia dal jsem do ní jako podkategorii Category:Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy, což uživatel Soman podle očekávání revertoval. Other use can be for all project in Czech (Wikisource, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wiktionary, Wikiwersity, Wikinews). I think all images should be on Commons.--sevela.p 19:12, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Coats of arms of Kolín District

Pokud se právě rozdělují znaky do kategorií podle okresů, tak bych při té příležitosti doporučoval uvážit, zda to je vhodný vzor názvu kategorie, protože okresy žádné své znaky nemají (a předtím v kategorii znaků kraje nebyly jen znaky kraje, ale především znaky obcí kraje). Nebylo by přesnější dělat kategory typu "znaky obcí xxx okresu" atd., aby bylo možno zahrnout do jedné nadkategorie všechny znaky obcí a do jiné znaky krajů? --ŠJů (talk) 15:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Dobrý nápad, ptal jsem se i Zirlanda, který měl velký podíl na znacích měst, a souhlasí s tím. Tak já to nějak zkusím začít dělat podle toho sytému. Mělo by to vypadat Category:Coats of arms of cities in Kolín District. --sevela.p (talk) 19:34, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Díky za vstřícnost. Jen ještě je třeba dořešit, aby do toho systému zapadly i znaky obcí, kterou nejsou městy ani městysi a nevejdou se pod pojem "cities" ("of municipalities"?) a v těch pár statutárních městech, co se člení, ještě znaky městských částí nebo obvodů. --ŠJů (talk) 00:30, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

ŠJů je možná spokojen, ale mi se to teda nelíbí. Název "Coats of arms of cities in xxx District" je IMHO ještě více zavádějící než "Coats of arms of xxx District", a to zejména protože nezahrnuje vesnice. Před takovými velkými změnami, které provádíš bych teda silně doporučoval diskusi, která by měla vést k nalezení vhodného názvu kategorie. Proto prosím zastav další přesuny, dokud se lepší název nenajde. --Daniel Baránek (talk) 21:40, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Právě jsem na tu novotu narazil, takže se taky naléhavě vyjádřím. Znaky podle okresů jistěže ano, to je při jejich cílovém počtu nanejvýš vhodné a přiměřené, ale název kategorie s "Cities" je hrůza. Zhruba ekvivalentní pojmu "city" mohou u nás být tak ty dvě desítky statutárních měst, ostatní jsou jenom towns, o vesnicích nemluvě. Čili když tak Coats of arms of municipalities of XY District. Osobně bych se držel ještě jednoduššího Coats of arms of XY District, ale vypadá, že na předešlém, tučně zvýrazněném, se bez problémů shodneme (koneckonců pro SK tu na Commons, tuším už něco podobného mají). Pro příštích pár dní jsem svolný ty kategorie s "Cities" z nezbytí použít, ale ne dlouho. Mohl by to tedy pak někdo z kolegů botem přeházet? --Miaow Miaow (talk) 22:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Z hlediska výstižnosti názvu souhlasím samozřejmě s Danielem. "of cities" je ještě méně přesné než "of district", a nevím o ničem zásadním, co by bránilo věcně přesnému "of municipalities". Jedinou výhradou může být, že tři předložky "of" v jednom názvu kategorie se v angličtině, co vím, považují za stylistickou neohrabanost, kterou je vhodné nějak jazykově obejít. Zároveň chápu, že hledáním vhodného názvu by nemělo být zdržováno ruční třídění podle okresů. Neumím anglicky tak dobře, abych vycítil všechny jemné nuance významů vazeb s předložkou "of", ale nezdá se mi dobré, aby "znaky čehokoliv v kraji" byly pod názvem, které lze přeložit také jako "znaky kraje". --ŠJů (talk) 01:53, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Nejsem proti Coats of arms of municipalities in XXX District. Nebylo by zde 3x of a název by byl naprosto přesný. Zatím budu pokračovat v cities, protože ruční kategorizace je poměrně pomalá. Teď jsem objevil Category:Coats of arms of municipalities by country a jsou zde v podkategoriích povětšinou názvy jako Coats of arms of municipalities of Brussels, Coats of arms of municipalities of Flevoland, takže v rámci jednotnosti jsem pro název, co navrhl Miaow Miaow, Coats of arms of municipalities of XY District--sevela.p (talk) 07:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Zdarec barde. Celkem o nic nejde. Jen jsem zaregistroval, že jsi k mým fotkám přidal jakousi podivuhodnou licenci. Nejsem si zcela jist, ale svými fotkami disponuji já. Ahoj, je pravda, že jsem tam dělal trochu pořádek, ale teď jsem procházel tvé obrázky z té složky a licence zůstala u všech taková, jakou jsi dal při nahrání. Villages of XX District

Úvodem veliká pochvala a poděkování za akci "vlajky", to dlužím ještě od minula. :-) Přeřazení obcí o úroveň níž je v podstatě taky krok správným směrem (zpřehlední nám kategorii okresu pro různé kostely, kaple, pomníky padlých atp.), ale důrazně oponuji pojmenování kategorie. Když tak, jedině Municipalities a společnou pro ne-města i města. To rozlišování mělo a má smysl na úrovni kraje, kde pomáhá rychle vydělit města coby tu nejzávažnější skupinu. Na úrovni okresu už by si všechna ta území měla být rovna a měla by být dostupná na jeden pohled. --Miaow Miaow (talk) 18:06, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

L&M

I saw that you took a photo of L&M cigarettes last year (I assume you smoke them). I noticed there were a few European photos of packs but not any from America. Označil bych to šablonou {{subst:nsd}}, která žádá doplnění zdroje. Autorovi potom vložíš do diskuse {{subst:image source|File:RUR.jpg}}. Ještě by bylo dobré z popisu obrázku odstranit či opravit nepravdivé a nepravděpodobné informace: šablona {{Own}}, datum, {{PD-self}}... Pokud autor nedodá po týdnu zdroj, bude obrázek některým ze správců odstraněn.--Sevela.p 12:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Recent category work

Hello Sevela! You have recently been working on categories related to the cuisine of the Czech Republic. I don't understand edits like [5]. While česnečka certainly is a popular Czech soup, it is wrong to say that garlic soup is a Czech invention (there are certainly also French garlic soup and maybe others). Hi, I don't say that garlic soup is a Czech invention but it belongs to Czech cousine. So I added garlic soup to Category:Soups of the Czech Republic. Category:Garlic soup can be add to Category:Soups of France or Category:Cuisine of France also. I made edits like this to move images to the lowest subcategory. Hmm, I see you logic, but think about this: Bread is certainly part of Czech cousine, right? It would however not be clever to add Category:Cuisine of the Czech Republic to Category:Bread and at the same time removeCategory:Cuisine of the Czech Republic from all files depicting bread as part of a dish. If you find Category:Cuisine of the Czech Republic too crowded, why don't you create new categories like Cesneska, Segedinsky gulas, Svickova (sorry about spelling mistakes). Some of your edits have made it more difficult to find photos of Czech cuisine. (BTW, it is not a problem for a dish to be in Category:Cuisine of the Czech Republic & Category:Knedliky. It is technically COM:OVERCAT because Category:Knedliky already is in Category:Cuisine of the Czech Republic, but it is ok due to the fact that the two categories apply to different parts of the file: Knedliky to the Knedliky and Category:Cuisine of the Czech Republic to the whole dish). Hi Sevela.p, you have tagged this image as {{Copyvio}}. Images tagged as {{PD-ineligible}} in good faith are, however, no candidates for a speedy deletion. If you want to challenge the judgement of the uploader whether an image is below or beyond the minimal threshold of originality, you have to open a deletion request for it. In this particular case, however, I agree with the uploader that this image is ineligible for copyright as the depicted text is a quote from the 15th century and as typefaces and simple geometric shapes are ineligible for copyright. Freckle Girl

I saw that you had added a picture under the "Freckle" article, the one with the two girls. Those "girls" are actually me. I was wondering where you got the picture? Do I know you?

Šablona User contrib

Ahoj, mám prosbu o pomoc/radu: Pokusil jsem se po vzoru své osobní stránky na české Wiki předělat nálepky/userboxy i tady na Commons, ale při pokusu o jakékoli vložení počtu editací jsem ztroskotal. Zkoušel jsem šablonu {{User contrib}} předělat nejdřív přímo do mého vlastního userboxu, pak jsem zkusil vytvořit svoji variantu celé šablony {{Bazi contrib}} (kvůli barevnému stylu), ale ani to nefungovalo. Prostě se mi na stránce nechce načíst konkrétní číslo. Dokonce už ani s původní šablonou {{User contrib}}. Přitom vidím, že Tobě na vlastní stránce funguje. Ahoj, vím kde je chyba. Musíš tam to číslo ručně zadat jako první parametr, samo to bohužel neumí (nebo to není možné). Jinak tu šablona {{Bazi contrib}} ti nedoporučuji, protože takovéto šablony by neměly být ve jmenném prostoru šablona ale jako podstránka. Navíc jde použít šablonu {{User contrib}} podle tvých představ změnou barev pomocí parametrů. V tvém případě:
{{User contrib|200|border=gold|info-bg=#ffff80|id-bg=gold|id-font=#FFFFF}}
dá:
200 This user has made over 200 contributions to Commons.

Díky, nabyl jsem, nevím proč, dojmu, že když ta šablona má natolik dlouhý a složitý kód, tak že si to číslo snad i zjistí ze statistiky sama. Škoda. Ještě jednou dík za pomoc k prozření. V takovém případě jsem si to rovnou udělal i bez šablony. --Bazi (talk) 21:27, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

EXIF datum

Zdravím. Narazil jsem na tuto dva roky starou editaci. Doplnoval jsi tam mimo jiné datum údajně podle EXIF, ale v EXIF datech tam vidím jiné datum, březnové. A není to ani datum uploadu, to se liší o 10 dní. Zkus si vzpomenout nebo prověřit, jestli to je jen nějaký ojedinělý omyl, nebo jestli nešlo třeba o nějakou chybu bota a není podobných chyb víc. --ŠJů (talk) 07:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Ahoj, tak to vůbec netuším, jak se tam ta chyba dostala. Je možné, že chybu u dělal ten nástroj, ale je taky možné, že jsem se upsal. Mrknu se ještě na podobné editace, co jsem tenkrát udělal. Díky za upozornění. --Sevela.p 07:52, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
