Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

You've uploaded a derivative work | We're sorry, but File:Starship Enterprise.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Photographs of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this photo must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama.
The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this image is not a derivative work, please explain why on the image description page.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

In answer to your question on my talkpage: Yes, it is ok to make mistakes and to have them corrected. But it is not ok to upload a photograh someone else made and later change the authorship to yourself (own work). Are you the photographer? I dont think so. The photo was taken from another website and it is not free as required on Commons. Everything on Commons must be free for every purpose including commercial use by the copyright holders explicite written permission. --Martin H. (talk) 20:48, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for having this clearified. Thanks for fixing the image descriptions now.
- I saw http://www.bih-x.com/vijesti/grafika/neretva.jpg which you uploaded to File:Neretva 4.jpg - first in a very small thumbnail size. Also the image on the website have more EXIF data than your upload. How comes? P.s.: the image was first on that website http://www.bih-x.com/vijesti/arhiva/06-11-01-01.htm, not first on Commons. --Martin H. (talk) 21:27, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- I also found http://www.riverpeople.com.ba/p7hg_img_1/fullsize/Neretva_fs.jpg, you uploaded it as File:Kanjon Neretve Ocrkavlje.jpg. Its nr. 75 of 77 at http://www.riverpeople.com.ba/gallery.html. --Martin H. (talk) 21:34, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- Your absolutely right, they also took the image from somewhere else. I found the original source:
- Photo by Sulejman Badzak, UCODEP, all with camera EXIF. This answers the question "Various NGO sites" - as UCODEP is a NGO. Our policy requires that you provide a permission from the copyright holder and forward it to OTRS. My personal opinon is, that you are not the copyright holder as you maintain your own panoramio account without mentioning the source and without any EXIF/camera data. --Martin H. (talk) 22:36, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- Furthermore i should have checked w:en:User talk:Santasa99 first. Also the history of the Neretva article gives strong evidence that you simply continiue your behaviour on Wikipedia here on Commons. This was NOT your first upload as en.wikipedia clearly shows, so you know how to provide source and author. Maybe you did not know that images must be free to use by the copyright holder written permission. --Martin H. (talk) 22:49, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- Page blanking is not the sollution. I want to separate the correct images from the wrong images - here and on Wikipedia. So please help with correcting the information. Given the upload information I think everything you uploaded here is not free. --Martin H. (talk) 23:07, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Images can and will be deleted, however I still appreciate a clear statement what is from you and what not. Here (gallery) and on Wikipedia (gallery). Accounts cant get deleted. You can blank your talkpage after the situation is clearified. --Martin H. (talk) 23:30, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- A free license once given is irrevocable, so a call for take down would be invalid if you are the copyright holder. However, I gave some evidence that you might be not the copyright holder, therefore deleted acting precautionary. I ask you to follow the licensing policy in future, only free content is allowed on Wikimedia projects. --Martin H. (talk) 23:55, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Lg dwld.gif
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Lg dwld.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear Santasa99,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.
Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.
Thanks,
