И. Renaming file

Can you do me a favor? I just realized this image of the Lothrop Mansion is labeled incorrectly. I tagged it for renaming, but it seems there's over 800 other images waiting for the same thing. If you get a chance to move it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 16:41, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Farc

Thanks for spent a little time with the Farc flag. There are more two copies (here and here). Thanks! --Tonyjeff (talk) 18:05, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm jolle, and I was the author of the image, that was already published first time in a catalan publication TEN years ago. I have the original vector file. The work is not a derivative artwork, but a original artwork. I draw the image from a photo provided by the direction of FARC-EP before their official visit to Valencia in Catalan Countries. My image is original, but the ones quoted by you are derivations of my work and violations of copyright. As I have registered my right in the Generalitat de Catalunya (autonomous government) I can take legal action if necessary. I have a discussion with Tonyjeff and as he know that WAS WRONG, he used you for delete the images. Firts he say that I violated the copyright; when I give probe that I'ma the author, he say that FARC's flag is owned by a private organization; and when this was refutated, he give you this adresses showing derivative artwork. All for dom't recognize that was wrong. The classical american superb. --88.7.189.220 10:22, 26 July 2010 (UTC).

Thanks for uploading File:Sultan_of_Brunei_with_King_of_Malaysia.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Sultan_of_Brunei_with_King_of_Malaysia.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Laziness

Hello, Mr. Administrator! I have an admin task for you to perform. If you could kindly gaze in the direction of this image, please? That image is currently not used anywhere, but it was used as an illustration of en:Laziness, and it seems to have been uploaded with the sole purpose of embarrassing the depicted individual. Whoever the poor soul is, his image is (was) being used without an explicit permission and, I am sure, is in violation of multiple defamation guidelines on both the Commons and en.wiki. I have no idea how to go about the deletion (or much else for that matter) on the Commons, so I'm going to "hump" (that's Australian, innit?) this bundle of joy on your responsible shoulders. Cheers and salutations,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?);

Hello Mr Ezhiki, imagine bumping into you in my neck of the woods :) I agree with your reasoning 110% - as there is little to no encyclopaedic purpose to the photo, as is evident in that it is not being used on any projects, the photo IMO serves the purpose of embarrassing the subject. Hence, I have deleted it based upon that reason. If another administrator holds contrary opinion they are welcome to undelete the file, in which case it can then go to discussion. But first and foremost privacy of the person has to be considered. Anything else Ezhiki, let me know. Cheers, --russavia (talk) 00:25, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

I was working on cleaning up Category:OTRS pending - No timestamp given and found three images that have this tag. The template contains {{OTRS Pending}}. I could not locate any tickets in the OTRS permission queue that contain the text belarus.mid.ru. Has an email been sent to OTRS relative to these three images, or is OTRS Pending in there by mistake?? I looked at the web site to see if it was licensed using CC-BY-3.0 but could not see anything. I don't understand Russian so I'm not surprised. Thanks --Captain-tucker (talk) 08:41, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

I have the same question regarding that above template. There are 12 photos that have this template that includes an {{OTRS Pending}}, I could not locate any OTRS ticket in the permissions queue that mentions Pavel Adzhigildaev. Do you have any information on OTRS ticket or email? I did add the OTRS Permission tag to {{YuriyIlyin}} as I did locate a successfully closed OTRS ticket for those images. Knock knock

How's the sunshine? I ran into Category:Embassies in Moscow during my annual maintenance spree (3.500 8.000 photos for upload, most of them barely legal models in suggestive outfits) and now I'm sort of confused. There are two options:

  • Category:Embassy is included in foreign-rel categories and geographic categories (street or district). Photos in Category:Embassy are included there and only there (geo categorization through Category:Embassy)
  • Category:Embassy is included only in foreign-rel categories. Each photo in Category:Embassy has its own geo categories (street or district).

I'd say don't link embassies to streets (there may be more than one location, or they can change it etc.) - what was your plan?

Another concern: take a look if you would at Category:Ambassador residences in Moscow - what are embassies doing there (sorry, I'm not tracking whereabouts of Messrs. Ambassadors, but I suspect that if the embassy is also the residence, it doesn't need a cat of its own).

All the best and then more, NVO (talk) 21:20, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Dear Russavia,

I noticed the note of a removed photo in the German wikipedia article de:Karl-Christoph Kuhn.

  • This article had a deletion discussion. It was kept.

I would like to ask you to undelete this photo.

Thank you, Simplicius (talk) 16:23, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, in regards to this photo, I stand by the deletion as explained at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Karl-Christoph Kuhn.jpg. There is no evidence that the uploader is the person in question. For the file to be kept on Commons, the simplest way is for permission to be granted as explained at Commons:OTRS. This way, there would be no reason to delete the file, and it could be used across all Wikimedia projects. Hope this helps. russavia (talk) 08:49, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

I used Windows Media Player to extract the portion of the video that I needed, then I used Super link to convert the resultant .wmv file to .ogg format. Hope this helps? Cheers, russavia (talk) 08:44, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, just a note in relation to the move of File:Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 woah!.jpg to File:Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 Takoff.jpg. After reviewing Commons:FR#What_files_should_be_renamed.3F, I can't see any valid reason for the file to be renamed as per the guidelines. However, if there is a truly valid reason for the file to be moved, it doesn't make much sense to have it moved to a name where takeoff is mispelled as takoff. If a rename really is required for the file under policy, I won't object, however correct spellings, etc should be used I would think. I will leave this up to you to decide on how/if to move, etc. russavia (talk) 19:53, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello Russavia,
Sorry for the mispelling of "takeoff".
I imagine the renaming was requested by someone who thought that the final "woah!" was not accurate. I was agree with him: what is a woah? Is it a part of an Airbus A380 ? Is this a operation of the aircraft? Or is it because you are proud to have made this hard-to-take photograph? In my mind, "takeoff" describe more precisely what the plane is doing, so I've renamed it.

Category:Russian FOP cases

I just removed this Cat from three of the four images you just put it on -- in all three cases, the issue was not FOP at all -- it was the copyright on the image itself.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 20:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Jim, appreciated. I hope that other admins are using the Russian FOP case category on relevant deletions, as the word on the street is that FOP will sooner or later be brought into the Russian laws. The cat will obviously be of some use if and when that happens sometime around 2052, knowing Russian bureaucracy. russavia (talk) 20:18, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Airliners.net

Hello Russavia!

I have noticed that you have purchase many permissions of airliners.net photographers and that you created a special licence tags with corresponding photographer-categories Category:Photos by XYZ. That's all very well done! My suggestion: I think it would be helpful to create a "central" airliners.net-photographers category in which all airliners-permission are collected. Something like Category:Airliners.net photographers. What do you think? Regards, High Contrast (talk) 00:41, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm not too sure if an Airliners.net photographers category would be of any use, as all of these photographers are individuals and aren't affiliated with the site. Having a category "Category:Photos from airliners.net" may be of some use, but even then I'm not too sure just how useful it will be. I'll leave that decision up to you. Cheers, russavia (talk) 01:05, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

airliners.net license templates, problems with OTRS

Please have a look at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#OTRS_for_two_templates --Denniss (talk) 21:45, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

I don't think that's a photograph

You realize that this isn't a photograph, right [6]? There might be *some* PD license under which this one would fall but neither the 'old' or the 'Poland' one are it. Please find an appropriate license for the image.Volunteer Marek (talk) 08:34, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Also, per the Speedy Deletion template - "If you disagree with its speedy deletion, change this tag to a regular deletion request using delete and list it on Commons:Deletion requests/Current requests so it can be discussed." - since you're the one disagreeing with the speedy, you should be the one to list it at deletion requests. Can you place it there please? thanks.Volunteer Marek (talk) 08:43, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Nm, did it myself.Volunteer Marek (talk) 08:47, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

I have commented there, as it is clearly PD-Poland. russavia (talk) 09:03, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: Poznan hey? Hmmm. :)

Hi Russavia,
what an incredible coincidence! I live a 10 minutes' walk away from the consulate, and I used to go past it very often — but unfortunately I haven't got a working camera at the moment :-(. Anyway, I'll try to get a photo of the consulate as soon as possible; as far as I remember, it's not that easy to photograph as the view is partially blocked by trees and a high fence, but I'll do my best. I'll let you know as soon as I upload the picture to Commons. Thanks for contacting me and have an enjoyable time at Commons! odder (talk) 13:59, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: Photos from Spain

Hello. Here you are the Russian Embassy in Madrid (including a Sputnik :)). At the moment, view is partially blocked by the trees, but I hope that in the wintertime the facade will be more visible, so I'll take more photos then. That's a big building made of marble, and the last embassy inaugurated by the USSR (in 1991).

Про Commons Project

NVO (talk) 05:24, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Recent rename

Hi! I've noted you've rename image Child affected by malnutrition 1921-1923 Famine in Soviet Russia.jpg to the name which allow to use it as described in scholar source [7] Misuse of the 1921-1923 photodocuments (mostly without any captions, or references to sources) to depict the tragedy of 1932-1933 is becoming increasingly popular. Can we start a discussion first - I've provide [8] [9] but my opponents does not suggest any. Thank youJo0doe (talk) 16:03, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

I have renamed the file due to ambiguity as to what it portrays. I am not getting otherwise involved in any discussion on what it portrays. Perhaps ask for outside comment at Commons:Village pump. If any editor disagrees with my move to the non-descript name, they are welcome to move it to another name. Also, if there is truly a dispute as to the accuracy of what the image displays, {{Fact disputed}} can be placed on the image page. If there is conflicting information on what the image portrays, it may be best that it not used until such time as the veracity of claims and counter claims can be established. But that is an issue for editorial discussion on individual projects. This is just some suggestions from where I see it, other than that I am not getting involved. russavia (talk) 16:20, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
However, I will say this. If the file is believed not to free, you are welcome to open a discussion on it thru the discussion/deletion process. If it is agreed that it is free, it is simply the source and depiction that is disputed, then you and others have to continue discussions on this. If it is believed that the specific copyright is wrong or it is disputed, then {{Disputed}} can be used. Due to edit warring, I have also locked the description page -- discussion needs to continue on the talk page. russavia (talk) 15:16, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Yak-141 photos

Hello!

I've just read your message at wikiproject Aviation in Russian wikipedia. That's a great proposal! I've checked some of the links and found some images of Yak-141 that we really need. You know it's a great bird but there's less than ten photos of it at commons. Can we use them here? Here's these images:

Also, is there any way to get these images to commons (they're not from your list):

Three of them shows Yak-141 in flight and one shows its take-off. Very rare pics.

Thanks in advance! James R. Nockson (talk) 16:34, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi James, Adzhigildaev and Ryabtsev photos are free to upload. Simply follow the instructions on my userpage, but using their individual templates. Using the templates will place the correct licencing on the image and will also place the photo in their photographer categories. The other photos you mentions, I have email Javier, I am waiting for a reply. I can contact the other two photographers if you like, and I can let you know of the results. I have an email inbox full of replies at the moment, and I am slowly working thru them all and getting their basic information up on Commons. If you need anything else from me, just ask. Cheers, russavia (talk) 16:44, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Good, I'll upload them then. About other photos - yes, it will be great if you connect other users, especially Ken Videan. Please, let me know about the results. I'm know making a big and detailed article about Yak-141 at ru-wiki and these photos will really help to illustrate it. Thanks again! James R. Nockson (talk) 17:03, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Done! Here's files:
I hope I haven't done any mistakes. James R. Nockson (talk) 17:51, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey James, all good mate. With the photos, you know that we are able to remove the black bar along the bottom of the images? If you do that, just be sure to save it with no compression to preserve the image quality. If not, someone else will surely do it in due course. Other than that, perfect! Feel free to upload any of the images from those links on my userpage, and be sure to let others know that they can use them where we can. I will let you know about the other photographers as well. Oh, and if you ever find a free photo of the Aeroflot Ilyushin Il-28, please get in touch. Yes, they did use them, they used them to fly the Pravda matrixes around the USSR. Anyway, if you have anything else you need, or whatever, let me know. Cheers russavia (talk) 18:06, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
I've removed them. For some reason one of photos still shows old version with that bar in preview. I'll let you know if ever find a free pic of that aircraft (now I have only photos of Il-28 from Khodynka field in Moscow). Can't wait to hear about results of other requests.
Best regards, James R. Nockson (talk) 18:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
If you CTRL F5 this will bypass the cache, and the image should reload in the browser. It is showing without the bar hear. If you come across any images with the airliners.net watermark on them, please be sure to add them to the category as written on the talk page. Also, I have just gotten permission for http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?photographersearch=Lars Söderström no Yak-141s in there, but a lot of history for aviation buffs. Will be in touch. russavia (talk) 18:46, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Uploaded some other images from your links (awesome source of material!). Sorry for bothering you, but I've got another quetion: I found three images by Sergey Ryabtsev (from your list) - they show historical photos of Yak-36. However in descriptions is said next: "Thanks to mr. Levibor for the upload permission." Can we upload them? Here's links: 1, 2 and 3. James R. Nockson (talk) 17:43, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
It has been asserted in the OTRS permission that Sergey is the copyright holder of these photos. I would go ahead and upload them, but add Gos. Levibor into the author field, and do the rest as per normal. Any problems, let me know. Cheers, russavia (talk) 17:52, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Done! I've signed them as "Gos. Levibor (uploaded to airliners.net by Sergey Ryabtsev)". Thanks for help! James R. Nockson (talk) 19:43, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
