Hungarian Wikipedia welcome
[edit]Hi Nolanus,
I read your message about our welcome message. I went to sign up for an account at Hungarian Wikipedia to see what they do. When you said you "see a welcome site automatically", do you mean the link to hu:Wikipédia:Az első lépések?
cheers, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 04:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- No, this is not this. I found out now, that you must click to /tick off/ to "elszó megjegyzése a használatok között" and after you will see the message /or better page, it is not a message really/. It seemed, that it is not possible to make a link from /to/ it. But I saw it on other Wikipedias too, bud hungarian is the only I remember on it. --Nolanus 04:34, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ye, it is! Thank you, I want to propose it on cs.wiki too, this information will help me maybe. --Nolanus 04:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Good thinking! :) I updated ours too: MediaWiki:Welcomecreation. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 05:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I found out, that will have it too cs:MediaWiki:Welcomecreation :) --Nolanus 05:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, I found out, that will have it too cs:MediaWiki:Welcomecreation :) --Nolanus 05:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Elise! I wil use both of them, 1. I want to lern better english, 2. it confuse me, when I go here to my user page /I think, I may back on cs.wiki :)/.
- I have one more idea: what about to add the important links to confirmation mail? --Nolanus 18:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Nolanus, yes you are right: category names are normally plural nouns in English. We have a bot which can automatically "move"/"rename" categories, you can see it here: User:Orgullobot/commands/documentation. I added this request.
- About the confirmation mail -- why do you think it is important? At the moment we don't even require that users have an email address set at all. cheers, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 13:25, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- About the confirmation mail - I ment a new idea to our last talk - it could be usefull to send improtant information and links with the confirmation mail. Yes, many users havent set an email adress, but it colud help to them, who do. /sorry for my english/ --Nolanus 15:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, great idea!!!! Very very good thinking. I will update that a bit soon. :) --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Your additions of weblinks and interwiki links to image pages
[edit]Hello Nolanus,
your question "Why not": I have removed those links because they are wrong. The wikipedia articles you are linking to are the articles of the respective towns or villages, and if an article/gallery page about that village exists here on Commons, that is the place where those wikilinks should be put (for an example see the page about Stuttgart), but not on the page of any image that shows something related to that town.
I see no real need to add any weblinks to town websites per se here on Commons, I think that should be done in the respective Wikipedia articles. But if one would add those links, that should also be in the article/gallery page for that town. So: please remove those links again. Regards --Rosenzweig 17:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think, the interwiki there is usefull it makes the surfing easier, if you see no real need, OK /and I add the interwiki not always but for example in images which are improtant for me/, but say me, why it is harmfull?
- And you should show me a rule of commons, voting or something which forbid it, in other case, the talk and you opinion makes no sense. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 18:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Don't be an ass, Nolanus. This is just not common practice and there is very little use having interwiki links all over the place in the image namespace. The interwikis in the image namespace should lead to duplicates in other wikis. The interwikis in the main namespace should lead to Wikipedia articles. Siebrand 12:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Please don´t try to discourage others by arguments like "Don't be an ass". It would be better for you to not to discuss if you don´t have better arguments. In fact, there is very little use having interwiki links all over the place in all namespaces /I think no more than 10 %. And it is cleare why, it is not worth the time; but I don´t understand why should the interwiki be bad, it can be usefull in some cases /and for some people/. There are no reason to delete the interwiki. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 00:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Hello,
I want to talk with you about the same problem. As Rosenzweig explained it, an interwikilink normally connects Articles in different Wikipedias or gallery pages with Wikipedias. An image description page is the wrong place because an image is not the article, whereas a gallery page corresponds with an article.
It is better to create informative description pages (as I do it). You can still add them to your own pages, but please don't change descriptions pages of images by other users.
Regards, --MdE 16:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
OK. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 14:29, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry. You are right. I made a mistake because the name of the category is not usual (coats of arms of ....), but the category is absolutely satisfying. I deleted category to be classified from your coat of arms. Bye. Massimop 20:58, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Can you read one of these languages?
This text is in the page Category:Mathematics. It tooks me a lot of time to remove images from this cluttered category, and you have put again this picture in this category. So, thank you for trying to find a better category. --Juiced lemon 22:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I pat it in Category:Animations of geometry now. But you would do better to put it in a subcategory and no simply take it away. It is better when a image is in the category above than in none cat. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 22:39, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I put away this image from Category:Mathematics, because I thought it was not useful to illustrate any article about mathematics. --Juiced lemon 22:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
{{Welcomeip}} vs. {{Anon}}
[edit]Hi. Why did you feel the need to apply {{Anon}} to User talk:90.229.135.239 in this edit when I had already applied {{Welcomeip}}? Thanks! — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 04:52, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- The answer is very simple: because I didnt know that this template exists. And I didnt know it because it is as good as impossible to find this template when it isnt in a good category and when her name cant be guessed. I think it is better when the name of template is the same how in en.wiki then it is better to find /and when the text is simirally it good too, I think/. Naturally you can change my template or rename your to anon, I think both templates have their advantages. Sorry for my english. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 21:05, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- So, you didn't read User talk:90.229.135.239, you just slapped "{{subst:Anon}} --~~~~" on the end? Please avoid doing that in the future. Also, please be aware that, even ex post facto, we like to put welcome templates at the top of user talk pages, both here and on English Wikipedia. I have now edited both templates, the first to include it in Category:Welcome templates. — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 00:17, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- I wil be sure capable to avoid things like this if you create a tempkate properly, with all categories that should be there:). The creating of the cat. was a large work for me with my english, I didnt never do it if it were possible to find thos cat.
- I think, renaming to the same name like on en.wiki would be usefull. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 14:14, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Page and category for Briana Banks?
[edit]I noticed you made a page and category for Briana Banks - who only has one image. Is that common practice here? --AnonEMouse 00:48, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- It now has three images. :) — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 17:17, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
I didnt made it, I only requested for restoring. I think it is usefull to have a category and page even if it has has only one image if it is probable that we wil have more images in future. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 21:34, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- About the other 2 images - uh-oh. See this discussion. [[1]]. These are apparently those again. Are you quite sure these images are OK? --AnonEMouse 17:46, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I dont know, I didnt load it. Me, I am not sure of course. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 18:07, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Jeff G. uploaded them, I repeated the question on his page. Frankly I hope the answer is "yes", because there are 170 Kamui99 images on Flickr that I'd be thrilled to use most of. However in the past suspicions have been brought up that they aren't actually Kamui's images. --AnonEMouse 18:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I had forgotten about Kamui. We'll see if he responds here or on the images' pages on Flickr. — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 19:23, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- He hasn't responded yet, so I've just sent him FlickrMail. — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 12:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- He still hasn't responded. :( — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 23:22, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, one of the image was a good example for laughter and humour, I liked it and I used it on cs.wiki. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 21:12, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

- About Sasha Grey: user:Madjabuds has removed the images, but I didnt know that it is Sasha Grey, I thought that it is vandalism. I stopped to revert it but I hope that Sasha Grey wil free other images. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 21:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
You have reason,my English is terrible but you have understood. The problem with the famous Hideous two photos(that I like)has finished. However the photos are in the Sasha Greys (category). If you can, remove these photos here.So I hope that she can find other photos too.Thank you for your answer. (talk) 14:29, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- I sent you another message /what language do you speak?/. About cat: Sasha Grey didnt protest against tha imagea in the cat, only in her article; simple expressed the politics of commons in the category should be all photos relating the subject /collection of the images/, in the page the better images and it can be a brief explication about the image and subject; the link form Wikipedia articles about Sasha Grey is only tho article in commons, this means that only very few man can see the cat. Let us wait if he protest against it. I have to say that I am not a man who has right alone to decide things like this, if anyone other sees the this he has right to revert it again, this is why it would good if Sasha Grey release other photos. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 16:05, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello Nolanus: I speak Spanish but don't worried.I have to try to comunicate in this form.About Shasha Grey:I didn't know this politic of common. For my is enough. My unic and real point of view was:I liked this girl.My intention was in any form to try to comunicate with her, but I think that, this is impossible because I think that her unic and real precupation is to do more biggest her Porno - article with the maximun cuality possible.(No comunication with a person in particular). That most be normal in a person like that.So I'm not interesed really on Porn Articles.I'm musician and I hope that in the future I can write real articles about art in general. So thank you very much for your time and atention. PD:If you want, you can see that in her article(Sasha Greys)she name's herself catholic.So...WHAT IS THAT?

- In other words, you are removing the images because someone who claims to be the person in them thinks they are not flattering? That's kind of a low standard, isn't it? They're not explicit, they're not humiliating, they're not offensive, they're just not as sharp as they could be. She isn't giving us better ones to replace them, she just wants us to get rid of perfectly fine free photographs of her. --AnonEMouse 16:41, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, this is what I don't understand. We have the images, they are of this person, all I did was to organize them into the gallery. And why did you delete the gallery description? Videmus Omnia 17:31, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

- I think, it would be good to show some respect to a person when she doesnt like her images, nevermind if she is a pornstar; the images are in the cat, it is enough I think. If you want to make a ultimatum "give us other images or we will use this ones", make it, it would be a good solution. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 19:11, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Briana Banks categorizing
[edit]Just think about it - when you categorize category same as a page that it contains, your categorizing it twice (its in cat and in subcat tooo. Like you copied your file in deepest folder on your HDD to every parent directory. Wouldn't it be stupid?). There are rules about that, it's redundant, bad practice, and cluttering the cats. Regards, --Maggot666PL 22:25, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- Give me the link to this rule, please. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 23:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
In the "vertical" dimension, Wikipedia has traditionally been more frugal, placing articles only in the most specific categories they reasonably fit in. Thus, if there is a Category:American film actors, John Wayne would go there and not in Category:Film actors or Category:American actors.
- Source: WP:CAT - How to categorize an article --Maggot666PL 00:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I cant see there no proof that article and category cant be in the same cat. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 03:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Think again - category for particular person is created to gather media together, to make parent cat less crowded. If you categorize page in the cat and in the same categories as it, your doing just the opposite. What's the point? --Maggot666PL 16:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- No, category and article are not the same thing. For the reader can it be usefull to go more quickly to the article fort the parent cat. And think about that articles a categories are sorting separately. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 18:45, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- No, they do not. Apart from being listed as categories, pages are sorted alphabetically in the same way as categories (non-Windows way), so there is no problem with that. And categorizing it that way DOUBLES the amount of records in cat. Which is ridicoulus, maybe not always (there are crucial differences in some situations, but this one is typical example of easily avoidable redundancy). --Maggot666PL 19:13, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

[edit]You can have the "N" name back :P -Nard the Bard 02:00, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Why? You dont like it anymore? I dont need it necessary but it would be useful for me to have it on all wikis. --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 16:19, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to unify it across all wikis so I changed to a more unique name.. I should be able to give you a few of them I created and maybe a few moe that got re-created after I re-named. You'd have to ask for usurpation on the rest. -Nard the Bard 16:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanx. Where should I ask for usurpation? --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 20:11, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is no "N" account currently on Commons, although you'll have to ask an administrator to make the account for you since it is too close to another name. As a courtesy please link through from User:N to my page with a notice like "Note, comments before September 2008 signed by "N" actually belong to Nard the Bard" -Nard the Bard 20:45, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- I will do it, but I think, for you would be good to ask a bot to change the signatures N to Nard the Bard.
- But I dont know, should i ask for usurpation of N here or in en.wiki? --Nolanus ✉ (C | E) 20:53, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Motyl-temelin-mensi.jpeg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Motyl-temelin-mensi.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Temelin-zastavka-mensi.jpeg.
Thank you. |

File:ETE en.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks for uploading File:MTplakat43137882 10214748128875088 1132256003174170624 n.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:MTplakat43137882 10214748128875088 1132256003174170624 n.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request, as linked above and below: not including year, month, or day; not creating the subpage; and not transcluding. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests." — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 18:02, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
