Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit]Hello, I seen in the newest images that you contribute with some nice pictures. Please read this : Take_macro_picture_on_white_or_unicolor_background, which will allow graphists to clean up your images and to provide really professional pictures for your plants. Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 20:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Nepenthesbicalcarata1.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

File:Nepenthes rafflesiana giant upper pitcher.jpg may be deleted
[edit]Nepenthes rafflesiana giant upper pitcher.jpg which you uploaded has been tagged with OTRS pending for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the Volunteer Response Team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the Volunteer Response Team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have already sent the permission, please re-send it to [email protected] now. Please quote the file name ("Nepenthes rafflesiana giant upper pitcher.jpg") in your email. At the same time, please leave a message at the VRT noticeboard so that a volunteer can follow this up or contact a VRT member directly.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 20:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I take this opportunity to congratulate you for your work on the cephalopods on english WP! I translate your articles with great appetite! But you may have noticed, I am interested mostly to squids, maybe have you see the good articles (label) on the colossal squid and the squids on french WP, which can be translated in english (but my english level is too bad for do it!). Updating the colossal squid image
[edit]Hi Meso--
I have edited this image here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Calmarcolossal.jpg to make it accurate using actual measurements rather than eye-balling, as the original creator did.
As you no-doubt noticed, the original newspaper article on which the proportions were based is totally inaccurate. However, instead of seeing the "Upload a revised version" link, I get a "you are not allowed to modify" note on the corresponding image page in Wikimedia commons, perhaps because it was in the deletion queue at one time?
Since this image is so widely cited, I think it is important that it get revised, but I'm not sure how to achieve this.
I have uploaded my edited version here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Calmarcolossal2.jpg
Thanks for the help...

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
