- File:Bistrushkin.jpg was successfully confirmed by OTRS. --McZusatz (talk) 21:23, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Re:Große Dateien hochladen
Hallo McZusatz,
So, getting back to English :-) I believe that you can upload files up to around 150 MiB with the UploadWizard without getting any problems—at least I haven't been able to upload files bigger than that for a while now—but for files bigger than those, especially as big as 1 GiB or more, you need to request help from a Wikimedia developer with shell access, and they can do a server-side upload for you.
I have been requesting uploads of such big files for more than a year now; the only things you need to do is to: (1) upload the file onto a publicly available server (if it's not accessible on-line already, that is), (2) create a .txt file with the desired file description, (3) fill a bug on Bugzilla, categorising it as Wikimedia, General/Unknown and (4) assign it either to Roan Kattouw or Sam Reedy — they are both very helpful with such requests.
Also, here are some past bugs for you to have a look at as examples: 32236, 32793, 34771; I hope that helps. Thanks, odder (talk) 22:00, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

If someone would not rename all of my Turkish images, this wouldn't happen. - Darwinek (talk) 20:27, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- This had nothing to do with the rename. Do you still have a copy of the image? It would be great if you uploaded this file again. Sorry for the inconvenience. --McZusatz (talk) 10:47, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I have it, but on an external disk. I will have access to it over this weekend, so I will re-upload the image. What caused the loss of the file? - Darwinek (talk) 14:10, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- It was some clumsy code snippet which cause the loss. It was fixed already in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/30750/ . --McZusatz (talk) 14:16, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Viel Spass damit. --McZusatz (talk) 21:14, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Fragen
- 1: Nächse Frage: Auf Commons werden immer mal wieder reihenweise Bilder wegen fehlender Panoramafreiheit gelöscht (z.B. Category:SS.
(Vielleicht Commons:Bots/Work requests?)

This file now has a flickr source and an author. Maybe the npd tag can be removed by someone like you if you wish. It has a trademark tag on it, however, but the ticket's design may not be too complicated to copyright. Hi, McZusatz. This user has lifted multiple files from a variety of different websites and falsely claimed them all as her own work. In at least two cases, she took the trouble removed the on-image credits and copyright notices that would have identified the files as copyright violations. In the case of File:1. Villa Imperiale Pesaro.jpg, the file has been take without from here without acknowledging the source and was, like the others, falsely claimed as "own work". To my mind, this satisfies the test of "significant doubt about the freedom of a particular file," meaning that it should be deleted in accordance with the precautionary principle. Re-uploading
Hi!
If you want upload new version, DO NOT overwrite current ones, please!
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iznad_Lovišta1121200.ogv
My uploaded videos were 480P , but you converted them into 360P!!Quahadi Añtó 13:21, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hey,
- I only converted the mp4 container into an ogv one. I did not change the resolution. Your video was [41 s, 480 × 360 (2,86 MB)] and mine is [41 s, 480 × 360 (8,34 MB)]. Nevertheless it would be great if you uploaded the 360p video also in 480p. Thanks. --McZusatz (talk) 13:32, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I originally converted videos to mp4 and later simply changed extention into ".ogv". commons did accept them as such , so I thought, why not??
I had some problems with converting videos into ogv (image was too grainy! :( by miro converter) xmediarecode sometimes simply did not work ( :( ).
Anyway, what is problem with mp4 as "non-free" format?Quahadi Añtó 09:04, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- I am unable to play the mp4 in my browser (firefox, opera and chrome). I am only able to play the server generated WebM and OGG files. If you have firefox, you could try to convert your videos with Help:CV#Firefogg. (In this case you won't have to encode to mp4 first.) --McZusatz (talk) 11:15, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
I have firefox and chrome and mp4 works in both cases. I don't know what is the problem??Quahadi Añtó 11:54, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- So you are able to play http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a5/Na_barinama1061142.ogv directly in your browser? --McZusatz (talk) 12:05, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Strange, on that way-NO. It says that file is damaged/corrupt! however, if I go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Na_barinama1061142.ogv it works quite OK.ˇQuahadi Añtó 12:09, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- That's because you chose the "WebM 480P" option. (The wiki server provides a webm and ogg transcoded version of the video file) --McZusatz (talk) 12:13, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Libertad
Your file Libertad.JPG is unusable in the English wikipedia as it clashes with other local files of the same name. Since Libertad.JPG and Libertad_2.jpg seem to be part of the same photoshoot sequence it does make sense to rename the image to "Libertad_1.jpg" (note the lowercase "jpg" too) Windroff (talk) 22:11, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- Done. --McZusatz (talk) 22:20, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
McZusatz: Please note that this is not a valid reason for renaming files here at Commons. Rather then changing the file for hundreds of wikis, it should be fixed at English Wikipedia. -- Docu at 03:20, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- I am aware of this. Nevertheless one can say reason #6 applied in this case to harmonize File:Libertad 1.jpg with File:Libertad 2.jpg (There is no doubt they are from the same set of images). --McZusatz (talk) 10:23, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Which template would make use of this? -- Docu at 10:10, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Info - Video/Audio
Und Michael Dale schreibt: "Worth noting we also recently merged improved firefogg support into upload wizard. https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/39035/ So our instructions can be simplified a bit. Use firefox, install firefogg ( once ). Now you can upload your mp4 assets directly from your camera files and we will automatically convert them to the best format with the correct settings." Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

This DR
I think I found the correct flickr source for this image...and its from the City of Vancouver flickr account. The license is OK so it should be closed as keep since it passes {{PD-Canada}} too as an image created before 1949. --Leoboudv (talk) 03:19, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- As for this other DR, you must decide the solution by yourself. Whether the permission is OK or needs COM:OTRS. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:06, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Girls Beware
You are welcome! Thank you for the changes!
What program do you use to convert it to Webm? Should I just upload it as a Webm?
There is another one with a HighRes MPEG4 and that is Strange Ones http://archive.org/details/strange_ones (Current file at File:StrangeOnesFullRez.ogv) WhisperToMe (talk) 16:37, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- My personal opinion is that WebM is superior to OGV. The VP8 codec of WebM seems to be more capable than Theora. I used com:firefogg to convert to WebM (please select "1080p 6Mbit connection") for conversion. And also please use the MPEG2 source. It seems this is the original and the MP4 is just a scaled down version of the MPEG2. --McZusatz (talk) 16:47, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! For the videos does it seem like all are MPEG2 originals? WhisperToMe (talk) 18:55, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

- I see. When I saw the "high res" I thought that the MPG4 was the highest quality version, but it seems like that's not the case. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:31, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

This user's uploads
Dear Admin McZusatz,
This user uploaded only a few images to Commons and the latest image is not free. But I noticed a strange thing. The other images he/she uploaded which have metadata all name different cameras. Are the images OK? I will have to sign off now as its 1:48 AM in Canada but just look at the image uploads and consider if it is 'own work' If it is not OK in your opinion, then feel free to launch a DR. I accept your opinion either way of course. I see the uploader's talkpage history is not great but I don't want to prejudge this person. Goodnight, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:49, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I nominated two for deletion. The other could be nominated as well per COM:PCP. --McZusatz (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: I will vote to delete in the 2 DR's you created. As for the rest, its hard to say since he/she has few images on Commons. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:34, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Was würdest du mir raten? --Slick (talk) 10:17, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
--Slick (talk) 15:20, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, Category:Possibly_files_without_thumbnails_detected_by_bot ist jetzt "scharf" und die nächsten Tage sollte sich da vermutlich was tun. --Slick (talk) 17:08, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

This uploader's images
This uploader uploads copy vios but he was warned (on his talkpage) to stop uploading copyright violations and still does so. It seems that it is not useful to tag all his images if he continues to do this without any sanctions sadly. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:47, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: Thank you for taking some action. I know that Commons doesn't have Wikipedia's Newbie rules but when an uploader is warned Not to upload copyright violations....and still does so, than he/she just doesn't care about other people's copyright unfortunately. So, some kind of sanction should be enforced. I thought a 2 week block could be OK but it looks like this uploader will come back after that time and continue doing what he/she is doing so perhaps an indefinite ban was warranted. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:54, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- COM:BP says that punitive blocks are not endorsed. Also keep in mind that the uploader can still edit his talk page and request an unblock any time. --McZusatz (talk) 19:47, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: It is good that COM:BP says that 'blocking is designed to be a preventative measure and not a punitive one.' I did not know this. I knew an uploader could request an unblock any time but he/she should give a very good reason to be unblocked since this happens very rarely. But there was this massive Copy Vio case where Admin INeverCry was forced to blacklist a flickr account and ban the uploader. (I made some comments in the DR) I had to ask this Admin to do something to stop this massive copyvio. The uploader just stole images left, right and centre from an ARR German website and placed it on his own flickr account and licensed them freely. So, sometimes, one has no choice but to Act because there is no choice--as you know. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:12, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Playing new version of video in full resolution shows old version
Hi McZusatz,
in IRC I was pointed to you regarding the problem in topic. I had uploaded a video but since it was partly really dark I enhanced these parts and uploaded the enhanced video as new version of that file. The problem now is: when the video is played in original resolution the old and dark version is shown: screenshot. Any ideas? -- malenki (talk) 21:57, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- There seem to be some problems with the varnish software on the wikimedia servers lately. I commented on an already opened bug ticket but do not expect sth. to happen today. --McZusatz (talk) 08:41, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Gruß, --Pristurus (talk) 16:09, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 19:27, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Gruß, --Pristurus (talk) 21:50, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

--Slick (talk) 19:02, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 19:24, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm.... so gesehen hast du Recht. Da habe ich mich wohl vom passenden Dateinamen, dazu die Endung ogg, täuschen lassen. *grummel* --Slick (talk) 19:37, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

- Danke. --McZusatz (talk) 17:30, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

"Talent Access" files
Hi there. I'm the uploader of the File:Ronnie_Scribner_1981 and File:Georg_Olden_1982.jpg images. I just wanted to drop a note to let you know that the photographer of these two images has contacted me to let me know that they've uploaded two more images to their Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/talent_access/
Before I transfer the two new images to Commons, I wanted to contact you to ask if you think it would be all right if I went ahead and transferred them, or if you think it would be best if I waited until the nomination/discussion has been closed on the first two images? Most of the Commons images I've nominated for deletion in the past have been images with pretty obvious problems, so I'm not sure how I should proceed in this case and/or how long I should expect the nominations will last before the discussion is closed (I told him probably a week, but that I didn't really know). There's no rush for me to have the discussion closed, but I just told him I thought it would be best if I checked with you first before I began transferring any additional images of his here.
On a related subject, I've also not added the first two images to any Wikipedia articles yet, thinking it would be best to wait until I'd addressed any questions about them. I noticed you'd verified the two images as being licensed on Flickr, so do you think they're clear for use on Wikipedia now? Or, again, do you think it would be best to wait? --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 05:36, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
- Go ahead and upload them. I closed the DR as it is very unlikely a copyvio. --McZusatz (talk) 12:44, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. Sorry to nag you about the noms. He contacted me yesterday letting me know that he had a couple more up, so I just wanted to check with you first to see if I should advise him to set them to "private" on Flickr until the discussion was closed. I'd usually never transfer such obviously "professional" shots of celebs without seeing more evidence of a photographer's work on Flickr, but I've known this individual for a long time and I've seen a lot of his work (including dozens of unpublished "alternates" from these very same sessions), so I'm 100% positive he's the original photographer/copyright holder. --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 13:20, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Is anyone alowed to review the files transfered from commons or only admins?Receptie123 (talk) 18:39, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- This can be done by anyone. Just be sure that:
- ...the licence matches and is valid
- ...the author and source are mentioned
- Also try to clean up syntax errors – if present – in the {{Information}} template. --McZusatz (talk) 18:43, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Cerrecting white balance
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Graphic_Lab/Video_and_sound_workshop#Correcting_white_balance No! As an experienced Admin, please consider marking these 2 images. I don't know the source flickr account except that it was just created just recently and has only these 2 photos on its photostream. The flickr source link gives more information about the photos and the uploader seems OK...but I still think an Admin should mark these 2 images rather than me. I cannot be sure that its not a flickrwash when the account has only 2 images.
Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:51, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- I nominated them for deletion because the upload on commons and flickr only differs about three hours. As you said the other information available does not indicate obvious flickwash. --McZusatz (talk) 08:59, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

xcf files
Hello, you tagged a number of my xcf files to let me know about the bug with this file type, and I would like to replace them with pngs. Is there a way to upload the pngs to the same filename? When I try to do this I get an error that a very similar filename exists. Thanks.
--Jfhutson (talk) 21:21, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I think your images are not affected by the bug. However flattening the XCF-image should always produce correct output. There would be no need to upload a seperate PNG version. Also you will not be able to upload a PNG version on top of a XCF-file. You would have to upload the PNG to a new file. --McZusatz (talk) 15:08, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

This DR
If you have any information on this DR which I initially filed, please feel free to make a comment in the DR. I just thought that it violated US FOP laws. Licensed reviewer Stefan4 thinks so too but other contributors say No. I have made a comment that perhaps De Minimis does not apply but perhaps guidance from an experienced Admin is helpful? I have no strong views on the image but if I am in the wrong, so be it. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:47, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

The filepage still says it is in use in two pages on de-labs.wikimedia.org, but when I went to replace them there, "Firefox can't find the server at de-labs.wikimedia.org." Hi McZusatz. Siehe dazu auch Template talk:Convert to PNG. --Leyo 14:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- --McZusatz (talk) 14:44, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 22:27, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

(Als Cat würde ich Category:Images_to be converted to PNG by bot vorschlagen.)

Also welche Arbeitsschritte genau soll der Bot ausführen? Soweit ichs verstanden habe:
- 2) heruntergeladene Datei in PNG umwandeln (Was soll mit Transparenz passieren?
- 5) Beim hochladen das Template {{Duplicate|converted to PNG by bot}} beim PNG einfügen? Sonst nochwas?
$ convert OMSYMBOL.jpg OMSYMBOL.png
(The convert program is a member of the ImageMagick(1) suite of tools.) - Ja, das "Convert to pNG"-template sollte natürlich entfernt werden: "Bot-Testlauf"
- Ja.
- Nein, nicht beim PNG, sondern beim source file: Siehe "Testlauf"
- siehe punkt davor.
- Oder? --McZusatz (talk) 22:33, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Frage 2) Nr.3 ist noch unklar. Weil ich es hier sah, muss ich nochmal nachhaken: Alle Dateien in Category:Images which should be in PNG format sollen umgewandelt werden oder nur solche (aus der Kategorie) in denen explizit die Umwandlung per Bot mit {{Convert to PNG|Bot}} gesetzt ist? --Slick (talk) 06:43, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Also wenns wirklich nicht eilt, einfach abwarten. --Slick (talk) 06:24, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Kein Problem. Ich bin selber recht gut beschäftigt. Lass dir ruhig Zeit. --McZusatz (talk) 08:41, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
All of these images are publicly available on Master of Malt's (trading name of Atom Supplies LTD, owner of the copyright) flikr account ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/95051914@N02/sets/72157633276887378/). I have also had the sales director of Master of Malt send an email to [email protected] confirming all of the above.
Hope that suffices.
Thanks for your help, Tom --80.195.191.42 15:13, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link. We did not have this link and therefore had to assume they were copyrightviolations. However the licence on flickr is not sufficient enough because it does not permit commercial use. [CC-BY-NC-SA-2.0] There are two possibilities for you right now:
- Do nothing: The mail sent to OTRS from the author includes the permission to use those files commercially. (e.g. [CC-BY-SA-3.0]). Therefore the images will become undeleted and applied with the correct licence.
- Request the author to change the licence on flickr to one which allows commercial use (e.g. CC-BY-SA-3.0). This also allows us to restore the files in question. --McZusatz (talk) 19:34, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

- Von cc-by-sa steht dort nichts, also lieber mal anfragen. --McZusatz (talk) 17:07, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Bin mal auf die Antwort gespannt. -- Rillke(q?) 11:55, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
--Leyo 12:05, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Was genau fehlt denn noch?
-- Rillke(q?) 13:30, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Das hört sich nach CC-BY an. {{Cc-by-3.0-de}}?
--Leyo 14:30, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ist der wachsende otrs-backlog denn schon abgebaut? --McZusatz (talk) 14:44, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
-- Rillke(q?) 15:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
-- Rillke(q?) 15:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
--Leyo 08:56, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- BY-SA in Attibution ändern? --McZusatz (talk) 11:26, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Image
Dear McZusatz:) I noticed there was no action taken after this image was tagged and nominated for deletion: Deletion requests/File:Saakashvili Latsabidze Giorgi.JPG I think it would be appropriate now to keep this image since the nominator has no provided other sources. Also, this image wa taken by me on May 23rd, 2012. I would appreciate your consideration. Best Sausa11 (talk) 22:45, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. Also, this image: File:Giorgi Latsabidze perfoming in Pennsylvania (Opera House).jpg would be the next one to be saved. Thanks so much! Sausa11 (talk) 22:55, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Please explain this
Hi! I noticed you removed my copyvio template yet Commons:Screenshots#Microsoft_products pretty clearly states it's off limits. Palosirkka (talk) 09:05, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- This was not the problem in my eyes. Therefore I nominated the page for deletion and kept your copyvio statement as reason. Jim left a comment on the DR stating that "[he] do[es]n't think it is a copyvio problem". I finally decided to speedy delete the image per all claims stated in the DR. --McZusatz (talk) 11:51, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- But why do you think that was not the problem? (Who's Jim? Did Jim have any arguments as to why?) To me this seems fairly clear cut. Palosirkka (talk) 12:28, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sry, I forgot to link to the DR...
- In some cases where copyrightable items/buttons are not part of the main focus of the picture they can be considered as com:DM. In this case the main focus was the computer screen with the wikipedia page on it. Therefore the surrounding windows UI could be understood as de minimis. --McZusatz (talk) 12:45, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks alot, very useful. Not so black and white then I guess. Palosirkka (talk) 20:48, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Subtitle question
Are you willing to subtitle File:US President Barack Obama, surveillance activities, June 2013.ogv ? Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 22:39, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- I could do that but first I need the official transcript. My English is not good enough to create my own transcript and also I do not have the time to do so. --McZusatz (talk) 08:16, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

- Ok, Done. It was only ~30 secondes of the transcript. --McZusatz (talk) 22:52, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you :) - If you want another (this one is 10 minutes long) I uploaded en:File:NSApolygraphvideo.webm to the English Wikipedia. This is the transcript (Archive), and it would go to: en:TimedText:NSApolygraphvideo.webm.en.srt - Thank you WhisperToMe (talk) 00:36, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think you can do it yourself. It is quite easy if you have an account on youtube. I could show you how to do this. --McZusatz (talk) 18:38, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- I have written subtitle files before by using transcripts, but it meant manually watching the video and getting the seconds of each count. Is there a faster way of doing it? I do have a YouTube account. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:50, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

JS bearbeiten
// Add a JS validator to promote correct syntax
if (/\.js(?:\/. )?$/.test(mw.config.get('wgPageName')) && ($.inArray( mw.config.get('wgNamespaceNumber'), [ 8, 2 ]) > -1)) {
importScript('MediaWiki:JSValidator.js');
}
Beschreibugn, was es macht auf Help:JavaScript validation.
Der CSS-validator-link ist auch ganz nützlich:
// Add a CSS validator to promote correct syntax
if (mw.config.get( 'wgTitle' ).match(/\.css$/i) && ($.inArray( mw.config.get( 'wgNamespaceNumber' ), [ 2 , 8 ]) > -1)) {
importScript('MediaWiki:Gadget-CSSValidate.js');
}
LG Rillke(q?) 17:44, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, you have added OTRS template for the file File:DustRacing2D-1.0.1-Screenshot-3.png, but forgot to add the ticket #. Do you mind adding it again? --Sreejith K (talk) 02:46, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi! You've deleted the above file from Commons, with the comment that it's licensed "All rights reserved". Now this is where it comes from at flickr.com, and it says BY-SA-2.0. Please, restore the file. Thanks, --Oguszt (talk) 12:16, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the notification. I restored the file just now. Next time be sure to include the full URL to the flickr image on the file description page. (I only found this duplicate flickr image which is NOT freely licensed) --McZusatz (talk) 13:03, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

--McZusatz (talk) 07:16, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

- There was a bug where file redirects didn't work when a file was renamed; it is now fixed. There is still an issue with purging, but it should be fixed soon. (52200)
- Maintenance reports provided by special pages will now all be updated on each wiki every six months. This will for example give you recent information on uncategorized pages, unused templates and most wanted pages (see details).
- There was a bug that caused false positives for anti-blanking edit filters; it is now fixed. (52077) [126]
VisualEditor news
- The "edit" and "edit source" tabs and section edit links can now be changed more easily; for example, some wikis are using "edit source" for wikitext editing, and "edit beta" for VisualEditor. You can ask for the same change in bugzilla.

- Starting on August 27, you will also get notifications on the mobile site if you're logged in to a wiki using notifications. [129]
- Starting on August 28, all users with an account will be using HTTPS to access Wikimedia sites. HTTPS brings better security and improves your privacy. Some countries (like China) will not use HTTPS. If HTTPS causes problems for you, tell us on meta. [130]
- Starting on August 29, you will get the code editor interface to edit JavaScript and CSS pages on all wikis. [131]
- The plan to use Solr for search in MediaWiki was changed; instead, Elasticsearch is now planned. [132]

File:Kemi banner LumiLinna.jpg and other two
Hello McZusatz, thank you for your comment to files I uploaded. Maybe you overlooked the author information (Flicker user: Art of Backpacking).
Similarly with the other two. All three files are derivatives of pictures uploaded from Flicker (CC license) to Commons. Please let me know if this is not sufficient. Thank you! --Danapit (talk) 15:49, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your message. The flickr bot could not find the source file on flickr and therefore tagged the file with the maintenance template. If the image is already on Commons and you link to the source file, it is ok to remove the {{Flickreview}} template. --McZusatz (talk) 16:33, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I didn't think I could remove the template as the one who uploaded the picture, I thought an administrator or other independent user has to do it. Thanks. Cheers, --Danapit (talk) 17:36, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

What's the trick?
I noticed that you put a more copyright info needed tag on User:KLOTZ's talk page. I went to check the file history and it seems that you are the only one to have edited it. KLOTZ knows how to upload files, perhaps on a purely mechanical basis. I'd guess if there is something wrong here, it's something you did and forgot about. Please just tell me what you need exactly, and I'll make sure KLOTZ fixes it. Smallbones (talk) 03:52, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Due to a server bug the description was not saved. Therefore the file is "empty" and does not include a license. Please tell him to put a valid license template on the file page. File:CHAMBERLIN HOTEL.jpg --McZusatz (talk) 17:39, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do. User:KLOTZ is a very valuable member of the community, but a little behind the times technology wise. I'll send him an e-mail to explain it. If all else fails, I may put a PD-self license on for him, if he expresses that wish, which I expect that he will. BTW, sorry if the above note was a bit testy. Smallbones (talk) 00:31, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- I think it is ok if he just copy pastes {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} anywhere in the description. --McZusatz (talk) 15:13, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

a request
There is something I do, and that a few other people who download lots of images from flickr do, that I am going to ask you to consider doing too.
TIFF is going on, and I went to flickr to see whether new free images from TIFF were ready to upload. I found some, but after going to all the work of uploading them to the commons I found they had already been uploaded -- by you.
Since November 2009 I leave a note on every image I have uploaded (1) thanking the flickr uploader for choosing a CC license that allows re-use, and (2) giving the URL to the commons description page.
Almost all flickr uploaders appreciate being told their work is appreciated. We aren't obliged to tell them. But there are some good reasons for doing so, other than showing appreciation.
The main reason I started to leave these notes? I had been uploading images for years, and found I was no longer recognizing images and trying to upload the same image a second time. A note prevented me from trying to upload the same image twice.
Another good reason to thank people is that a few people seem to resent having their images re-used, even though they put a CC license on them. One guy went ballistic. It turned out that well over one hundred of his images had been uploaded to the commons -- but no one had ever thanked him before. When I thanked him he decided to check found out how many of his images were being re-used. He accused us of theft. He said our "theft" had ruined his enjoyment of his hobby of the last 40 years. He seemed to have a full-scale nervous breakdown. Well, what would have happened if the very first commons contributor who uploaded one of his image had thanked him? He may never have resented it, if he got used to the idea before he had 100 uploads. Alternately, if he really didn't want his images re-used, after all, he could have changed his licensing then, long before he had the nervous breakdown.
So, my request of you -- please consider leaving a thank you on the description page of image you uploaded. The one I use says:
- This image was uploaded here -- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charlotte_Sullivan_03_(9680605637)_(2).jpg
- Thanks for using a CC liscense that allows re-use!
Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 01:46, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- I guess I need a yahoo account in order to do this? Is there a way to do this automatically? Also (in this particular case) I was in direct contact with the photographer. He is aware of the re-use and appreciates it. --McZusatz (talk) 17:43, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you are correct, you would have to have a flickr or yahoo userid.
- I am glad the original photographer knows about your uploads. But, that doesn't provide a heads-up to individuals like me, who come across the image, and waste a couple of minutes when we try to upload it.
- Ideally, the tools that helped upload flickr images would check to see if an image had already been uploaded -- but, until then, spending 20 seconds leaving a note would sure be appreciated.
- As to whether the upload tools could automatically leave a thank you -- I suggested this a year or two ago. Many people felt that a note left automatically, by an automated tool, would (1) violate flickr's terms and conditions; (2) would be regarded as spam by some flickr contributors. Technically I believe it would be possible. Personally I still think it is a good idea. Geo Swan (talk) 04:41, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Request
Hi McZusatz , User:Vahram Mekhitarian uploads pictures with falsifying data, he puts templates that it's his own work or public domain, thus hiding the copyright. In previous times when some of his pictures were nominated for deletion, he removed templates and admins didnt pay attention to it.. He again and again remove the template, I do not know what to do, please warn him.--Δαβίδ (talk) 15:01, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- Please keep in mind to use the appropriate link to delete files. Otherwise the DR request will be removed due to missing information.
- --McZusatz (talk) 15:26, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- I added deletion template and opened discussion but template has been removed. Why? --Δαβίδ (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- Your DR was placed in Category:Incomplete deletion requests and then removed. Please use the DR gadget every time you nominate a file for deletion. You can find it in the toolbox:
- --McZusatz (talk) 15:36, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- I added deletion template and opened discussion but template has been removed. Why? --Δαβίδ (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
I have a another question too. Is it normal to add texts in category as it done here or not. I have removed that text but another user reverted my edits. I think that text must be deleted, because its only original research. There is articles in some wikis about that symbol, but some of them are already nominated for deletion and original researches are removed from that articles.--Δαβίδ (talk) 15:37, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thus much text is not suitable for a category description. I removed most of it. See the history page for details. --McZusatz (talk) 19:24, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

In first, Im sorry! Im a new user (from May) and process of licensing not fully understand. And second, about File:Jim_Torosyan,_General_architect_of_Yerevan,_2003,_Armenia.jpg. I can't get permission from Mr. Jim Torosian (in Russian), so as he is already 87 years old and unable to communicate with him. Is it possible to at least make an image of this great architect as unfree. Vahram Mekhitarian (talk) 01:01, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- You'd need the permission from the author (=photographer) in this case. No other person is allowed to publish his/her work under Creative Commons. --McZusatz (talk) 07:01, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- Why is that the photo is not mine. Formally, I have uploaded it as their own. If in such a case we can use the photo, please do not remove the photo. I will not bother you anymore. Sincerely, Vahram Mekhitarian (talk) 23:22, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Änderung der gesperrten Seite Template:LargePNG/limit
Hallo McZusatz,
- Done -- Rillke(q?) 13:56, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Was habe ich also falsch gemacht? -- Rillke(q?) 18:09, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

All the following files are mine, i photographed them and have released them
I have no idea where you got the idea that someone else might have made them.
I would prefer that they not be deleted. I have provided valid copyright information on each page for all the images that you flagged.
ALL these images are mine. They are all free to publish here under the license I provided.

About Multiple Wrong Deletions
All explanation was provided there about license and use. Still user deleted it wrongly:
File:Mano Ya Na Mano.jpg
- No, it was only published to be downloaded for your own use 1 --McZusatz (talk) 14:07, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
I said there it is my own work and issued it under right license and sent the mail for verification still marked for deletion:
File:Ramapir.jpg
- I don't think this is your own work. How did you created that image? Also I could not find any mail in the OTRS queue. --McZusatz (talk) 14:07, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
My own work and using these for User page, What is objectionable in that? Even when previously discussed and mail was sent via official source and restored by wikipedia administrators then why it is deleted again??:
File:Nabahat Khan.jpgwithdrawn request. --McZusatz (talk) 14:07, 12 October 2013 (UTC)- File:Aaroh.png
- File:Aaroh.jpg
- Those are not text only (not PD-textlogo). --McZusatz (talk) 14:07, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
I request you to Undelete all and remove wrong deletion request from them. And if you need, I can send a mail again. But that's not right to keep doing same thing again and again and explain each time to every new user to this that it is previously restored and previously verified and previously discussed.
This all is just disappointing and leads to uninterest when you trying to make a descent contribution.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please inform other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
New features
- You can now choose which language to show for SVG files that contain several languages, using the "lang" option, like
[[File:Gerrit_patchset_25838_test.svg|lang=de]]
for the German layer of File:Gerrit patchset 25838 test.svg. - Developers are looking for wiki communities to try the new search system. [142]
VisualEditor news
- You can now create and edit references inside media captions. [143]
- You now need to press the "delete" key twice to delete a template, reference or image; the first time, they only become selected, to avoid accidental deletion of infoboxes and similar content. [144]
- When you resize images, you will now still see them, and their size will also be seen in the center. [145] [146]
Future
- The new notifications system ("Echo") will be added to almost all wikis that don't already have it on October 22. It will notify you of changes and events that affect you. [147]
- MediaWiki 1.22wmf22 was added to test wikis on October 17. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on October 21 and all Wikipedia wikis on October 24 (calendar).
- The interface to reset your password will soon be changed. [148]

Deletion of Leroux - L'Epouse_du_Soleil.djvu
Hello, it seems you deleted the following file. This was a carefully extract of the pdf you redirect in order to transcribe the novel in wikisource. Now the proofreading of the book is just garbage and there will be quite difficult to redo the whole job starting from your pdf file.
Is there any chance this be restored back ?
I think the same story goes with Le Fauteuil hanté.Toto256 (talk) 19:29, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I saw that the file was in use and therefore decided to keep the file besides the fact that is is broken. Usually I file a DR if I am unable to fix it but another admin deleted the file already.
- I am not sure how wikisource handels the proofreading so there are two options:
- I could restore the file and you could try to fix it or create a new djvu version out of the PDF
- You could change the proofreading to match the PDF file, if this is feasible.
- --McZusatz (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- File restored by Dereckson and fixed by me. Toto256 for some unknown reason the file format you used is no longer recognized as djvu by the server. If there is other files in this case we should open a bug on bugzilla and ask why these files was recognized as djvu but are now broken. Phe (talk) 21:51, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please inform other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
New features
- The "Toolbox" section in the site sidebar is now called "Tools" in English. You can do the same in your language by editing the interface text on translatewiki.net. Someone else may have already done it. [149]
VisualEditor news
- On wikis with VisualEditor, you can now use it on pages in the File, Help and Category spaces. [150]
Problems
- On October 22 (UTC), an error in the site settings caused
*.wikimedia.org
sites (like Meta-Wiki and Commons) to redirect towikimediafoundation.org
for a few hours. [151]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf1 was added to test wikis on October 24. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on October 28 and all Wikipedia wikis on October 31 (calendar).
- In the next days, servers in San Francisco will start providing (cached) content to users located in Oceania. If you are in that area and notice problems, please tell us. [152]
- You will soon be able to test new features easily using the "Beta Features" view. VisualEditor will be in the list on sites where it works and isn't automatically enabled. Another example is a set of changes in the article text style.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please inform other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
New features
- The style and colors for warning boxes, error messages, and success messages in all skins of MediaWiki has been changed. [153]
VisualEditor news
- You will soon be able to switch from editing in VisualEditor to editing wikitext directly without having to save the page. You can't yet switch from wikitext to VisualEditor but developers hope to make it possible in the future. [154]
Problems
- There was a problem on October 31 during the activation of MediaWiki 1.22wmf2 on test wikis. mediawiki.org was also broken, and if you had problems logging in, it was probably because of this as well.
Future
- Because of the problem with MediaWiki 1.22wmf2, the calendar has changed. It will be added to mediawiki.org and non-Wikipedia sites on November 4, and all Wikipedia sites on November 7.
JavaScript / Gadget developers
- Due to a recent change, gadgets and user scripts that use jQuery UI should explicitly load the appropriate modules, as they may not be loaded by default. [155]
- Developers have started to remove long-deprecated methods. You should check the JavaScript console (in
debug=true
mode) and look for deprecation warnings and their stack trace. [156]

Hallo McZusatz,
--McZusatz (talk) 15:35, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

GIFs ohne Thumbnail
Was machen wir mit den GIFs in Category:Possibly files without thumbnails detected by bot? --Slick (talk) 14:41, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Renamed
(File renamed: File:Flag of Golyshmanovsky rayon (Tyumen oblast).gif → File:Flag of Golyshmanovsky rayon (Tyumen oblast) small.gif) Why add to filename «small»? Permjak (talk) 21:19, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- There is already an File:Flag of Golyshmanovsky rayon (Tyumen oblast).png with different content. File names should differ on more than only 3 chars. Furthermore I am converting gif files to png files as the png format is superior in many aspects and also the thumbnails look nicer. Thus I moved the file to avoid any collision. --McZusatz (talk) 21:26, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please inform other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
New features
- You can now use the "Autonym" font of the Universal Language Selector (ULS) to display the name of languages (for example in navigation templates) in their correct script. To do this, add the CSS class
"autonym"
to the elements that include language names. Note that this font only works for the name of languages, not for any other text. [158]
Problems
- There was a problem with Parsoid (the program used by VisualEditor to convert wikitext to annotated HTML) on November 4, between 19:40 and 20:40 (UTC). Encoding issues caused non-ASCII characters (including those with diacritics, like "é") to be broken when converted to wikitext and saved to the page. [159]
Future
- The Beta Features tool is now available on Commons and Meta-Wiki. With it, you can test new features before they're added for everyone. The plan is to add this tool to all wikis on November 21. [160]
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf3 was added to test wikis on November 7. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 12 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 14 (calendar). [161]
- The MassMessage tool will be added to all wikis on November 14. It will make it simpler to send messages across wikis. [162]
- The button of the Search page will soon be changed to be blue and bigger (see the difference). [163]
- You will soon be able to add a page name as parameter for
{{REVISIONID}}
,{{REVISIONUSER}}
and{{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}}
and similar functions, by writing for example{{REVISIONID:Apple}}
. [164] - In the future, when you hide a CentralNotice banner on a wiki, it will also be hidden on other Wikimedia sites. [165]

Problems
- There was a problem caused by too many requests to the database on November 14. [166]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf4 was added to test wikis on November 14. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 19 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 21 (calendar).
- The new Search tool (CirrusSearch) will be added to

New features
- The Beta Features announced before are now available on all Wikimedia wikis. You can test new features easily by changing your Beta preferences. VisualEditor is one of those features on sites where it works and isn't automatically enabled. There is also a new media viewer and changes in the article text style. [169]
- Tools developers can now create tools that use the OAuth protocol to connect to accounts on Wikimedia sites. As a user, you can use those tools to make edits and other changes with your account without giving the tool your password. [170]
Problems
- Wikis that are currently testing CirrusSearch had problems with search results on November 18 from 16:00 to 20:00 UTC.
Future
- There will be no major code changes on the week of November 25 because many developers will be on holiday for Thanksgiving.
- The editing interface of

--McZusatz (talk) 12:15, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, was soll mir das sagen?
--McZusatz (talk) 12:30, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, you added OTRS permission to this image, but forgot to add a license (according the ticket). Can you pls. recheck an correct this? Thx. --JuTa 08:48, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please inform other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
This newsletter is now posted using MediaWiki message delivery.
New features
- The CommonsMetadata feature was added to all wikis. It creates metadata information about multimedia files (like their license) that can be read automatically by computer programs. It not only works for Commons, but for all wikis, and you can use it for files on your wiki by editing templates used to describe metadata. [172]
- JavaScript code used on Wikimedia sites is now saved locally on your computer to load faster. [173]
- You can now paste formatted content copied from external sources (not just as plain text) into VisualEditor; this includes copy/pasting from other VisualEditor windows. [174]
- You can now open VisualEditor by adding
?veaction=edit
to the page URL, regardless of your user preferences. [175] - Many bugs have been fixed, and VisualEditor should also look faster, for example when you save a page. [176]
Problems
- Due to issues, the new search tool ("CirrusSearch") was recently removed from wikis where it was enabled, then added again. [177]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf6 was added to test wikis on December 5. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on December 10 and all Wikipedia wikis on December 12 (calendar).
- The old Etherpad tool (replaced by a new version) will be removed on December 30, 2013. You can still save old pads before that date using the old address: https://etherpad-old.wikimedia.org. [178]

Ubuntu Screenshot
Hallo McZusatz,
--McZusatz (talk) 10:11, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

File source for file:Katica Kjulavkova dlanki 1. JPG.jpg
Hi McZusatz, I don't understant where is my mistake. I indicated in the "source" that the picture comes from. The instruction says: "If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it". It is exactly what I made. I put: http://recoursaupoeme.fr/poètes/katica-kulavkova And this is where I found her pucture. On this site there is no (c) indicated, but she (Katica Kulavkova hersevf) told me that she gave this picture to the site. Please tell me what I should do more, because I d'ont understand. Thanks Jasmina
- A missing (c) does not indicate that the file is Public Domain. We need written permission from the photographer to verify the license. --McZusatz (talk) 12:17, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand, I'll ask a written permission. Sh'll send it to me by e-mail. But then, how can I show her mail to you? --Јасмина Шопова (talk) 13:35, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- The best way would be if the mail was sent to the otrs-mail address directly from the author. --McZusatz (talk) 15:49, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- It seems we did not receive proper permission by now. Thus I have deleted the image. If there are any news, ping me on my talk page (this page). --McZusatz (talk) 11:58, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Why did you delete this file? As a .gif, it's not a duplicate of File:ZereldaWallace.png. Nyttend (talk) 02:59, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Short answer (tl;dr): Of course it is a duplicate. The PNG has even the same color-index; thus the two files contain exactly the same data.
- Long answer: I decided to convert this GIF file to PNG because it was tagged with {{PNG}} for more than a year now. This conversion from one bitmap format to another does not change the dimensions, color or even adds compression artefacts. In fact the conversion from GIF to PNG is always lossless and in this case there is even a lossless conversion possible from PNG to GIF as I kept the color-index. Due to the file contents being the same this file can be processed as {{Dupe}}. (As a note: Of course this could not be processed as dupe, if I converted the GIF/PNG into SVG).
- Furthermore the PNG file creates better thumbnails (i.e. 32-Bit RGBA) in contrast to the 8-bit GIF palette with 1-bit transparency. Two results of this fact are: First, the PNG files are smaller due to effective compression. Secondly the editing of the file is easier and lossless (full RGB-space available in PNG).
- Consequently we do not need the GIF file anymore and it can be redirected to the new PNG file. --McZusatz (talk) 21:06, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

crop
Hallo McZusatz. --hdamm (talk) 10:08, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
;-) --McZusatz (talk) 19:09, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

images deleted after OTRS submitted
Hi McZusatz. Could you tell me why you deleted these 2 images?
I had just had the company send an email stating permission to COM:OTRS as per the nominating editor's suggestion. Would further permissions be required? --NipponBill (talk) 06:17, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- restored. Thanks for the ping back; I did not find the permission on my first try. --McZusatz (talk) 07:57, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

WLM exhibition
Hello. The photo edited by you File:Археологічний комплекс «Караул-Оба».jpg will be represented at the exhibition of Ukrainian WLM photos. Should we attribute yourself as coauthor of this picture or only attribute the first author?--Anatoliy (talk) 15:27, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for the question. Please do not attribute me, as I did not edit the photo. My only contribution was to convert the file from progressive to baseline-mode. Such edits are too simple to gain copyright. --McZusatz (talk) 15:59, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

15 02 2013 avi-iCawTYPtehk.ogv, Motd/2014-02-15

- OK, got it.
--McZusatz (talk) 14:19, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello McZusatz, as I am sure you know, having one of your uploads nominated as MOTD is one of the little joys of Commons. Even more so the day after the upload. Now I understand perfectly your very good reason for redirecting to a larger file, but I am not sure the way you did it was the most appropriate (as mine preexisted) nor the kindest (per the MOTD nomination). Think it over for another time . Cheers, — Racconish Tk 19:28, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- I thought about doing it yesterday but the chance of something going wrong was too high. I did it today because I see no reason in keeping a scaled down and recompressed version of the video. If I could have done anything differently please let me know. Furthermore I can recommend COM:YT which list only a few of the thousand of possibilities of downloading a youtube video and uploading it to Wikimedia Commons. Keep in mind that both - youtube and Commons - support .webm which is a great format for web video. --McZusatz (talk) 21:33, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Since you ask : I think it would have been much more polite to transform the file I had created in a redirect, while keeping the history, rather than deleting it and creating a new redirect. Thanks in any case for the technical advice, but please note I was addressing other aspects. Cheers, — Racconish Tk 11:43, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have restored the history of the original file. Additionally many thanks for all the useful youtube uploads by you. For the files in the cat: I think we should download the .webm file from youtube and upload it to Wikimedia Commons without transcoding. --McZusatz (talk) 12:36, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. Sometimes silent films on YouTube have an additional soundtrack which has to be removed. I know how to do it on Theora files, using oggsplit under Windows. How about webm ? Cheers, — Racconish Tk 12:48, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Racconish! Download ffmpeg (static) and create a batch-file:
- find and select ffmpeg.exe
- right-click it and sent to desktop (create a shortcut)
- right-click the shortcut select the file properties and copy the complete path. Delete the shortcut..
- use the windows editor to create a new file and paste the path to here followed by a single space followed by: -i %1 -vcodec copy -an %1_noaudio.webm (example: N:\Programm-Ordner\Video\ffmpeg.exe -i %1 -vcodec copy -an %1_noaudio.webm)
- save it as webm_noaudio.bat wherever you want.
Drag and drop a ogv file on it and you will find a new created file in your source folder (in the form xx.webm._noaudio.webm). --Pristurus (talk) 14:36, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Pristurus. Am I correct to assume this would also work for a webm file and not only for an ogv file ? Cheers, — Racconish Tk 16:05, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- This works for webm only. In case of using it with an ogv file you will get an resulting webm file containing a theora coded videostream. And that is not allowed in the webm container ... --Pristurus (talk) 16:23, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I have another question for you please. File:Monkeyshines.ogv is actually a composite of two small videos, Monkeyshines 1 and Monkeyshines 2 (at 00:29). Some projects have an article on both while others have an article only on Monkeyshines 1. Would it be difficulut to split the file in two ? I hope I am not bothering you... — Racconish Tk 17:17, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Why do you want to split it physically? You may use the start/end parameters (see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/TimedMediaHandler) to display different parts of the video (hope it works for you). To find the cut points try User:Saibo/thumbtimefinder. --Pristurus (talk) 19:05, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

- Are all the 65 files meant to be video-only? In this case I could batch process all and you won't have to do any additional work. --McZusatz (talk) 14:12, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure I fully understand : video-only as opposed to what ? Thanks, — Racconish Tk 14:33, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, I forgot to say that I already uploaded the 65 files from youtube to Wikimedia Commons with the same name as the 65 ogv videos. (I changed the extension from '
.ogv
' to '- yt.webm
'.) If none of the 65 files has an audio stream to keep, I can remove the audio stream from all of the .webm uploads. Due to youtube adding an empty audio stream even to silent videos this would also save bandwidth when those are embedded. - After removing the audio stream I plan to tag your .ogv uploads as duplicate and redirect them to the cleaned up .webm files. --McZusatz (talk) 14:52, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, they are all silent or should be silent as the audio might be copyrighted. Please make sure to keep the same categories. Thanks, — Racconish Tk 14:56, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

- Hi McZusatz, it seems you are doing again what I asked you not to do : deleting my uploads and replacing them with new files which are mere redirects. Why don't you simply transform the files in redirects in order to keep the history, particularly when they are featured videos ? Regards, — Racconish Tk 20:19, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

- Done. Interestingly one file has a lower quality version on youtube so I did not replace this one. (see on the right) Is the source really youtube? --McZusatz (talk) 19:45, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Hallo McZusatz, könntest du die Datei im 16:9 Format von der angegebenen Homepage reuploaden (siehe File talk:Xiu Xiu on Sound and Song Structure.ogv)? Gruß, --Pristurus (talk) 10:52, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Done. --McZusatz (talk) 21:22, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 23:20, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 13:59, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Why do you delete file:Vincenzo_bertolone_Vescovo.jpg this iamge? Which is the copyright violation? Marcuscalabresus - talk

Deletion of File:Yasmina - Dansende golven, een impressie.JPG
I wonder why you have deleted the File:Yasmina - Dansende golven, een impressie.JPG. This painting by a Belgian artist was uploaded by me to the Commons with an OTRS ticket (see: Category:Yasmina). This file was deleted before I could intervene. Among the more than 10,000 photos I've uploaded to the Commons, there are many photos of paintings and sculptures by Belgian artists who are still alive - and this each time with an OTRS ticket. Please undelete. JoJan (talk) 14:03, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- You can find the deletion rationale in the deletion request: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Yasmina - Dansende golven, een impressie.JPG. (TLDR: The file is unrecoverable lost). It would be great if you reuploaded the missing file. I can restore the description if you want me to. --McZusatz (talk) 14:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- McZusatz only deleted the file description page. The file is lost due a technical server issue we can't do anything about. -- Rillke(q?) 19:11, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

erroneous Summary, incomplete Licensing
File:Jethro Tull seed drill (1752).png by Bwwm (talk| contribs)
refers to Horse-hoeing husbandry; 4th edition; 1762; Tull, Jethro, 1674-1741; Adams, John, 1735-1826, former owner; (Boston Public Library) or similar copy, yet
the Summary is erroneous and Licensing is incomplete. If the image is from the 4th edition then the file name is incorrect. Any suggestions ? (You are the only user on Bwwm's talk) Xb2u7Zjzc32 (talk) 10:10, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

question - top {{SVG|any}} files
Hi.
I have some question about 2 sites, that you recently edit – one of them is here & second is here. The questions are:
1st: what is the reason of keeping both of them (how about merging, leaving just one)?
2nd: is there possible to add some template, which will automatically be checking:
a. real, actual usage of existed files – you can see that the numbers are different on both of mentioned sites. Let’s take as an example an image from first line – that with aqua background – in one there’s number 2235, on the second – 2774 (I’m skipping now fact, that in one it’s on 1st place of use, on the other – on 2nd), but if you check it – you’ll see only *one* use – actually on it.wikinews.
b. existed files in general, and if some other (not listed) image will have more usage then the last of them – then will be automatically replaced? 149.156.172.74 09:51, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- (aw 1st) What does 'both' refer to? In case it refers to the gif file and the png file, I did not keep both. The gif file now redirects to the PNG file.
- (aw 2nd) There is no template that will cause 'automatic replacement'. However we have {{PNG}}, {{Should be svg}} and {{Duplicate}}. --McZusatz (talk) 10:10, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- ad. 1: no - sites are duplicated (and beeing updated separately)
- ad. 2: according to variability in the number of use wouldn't be better if there will left:
- 2a. flag & number of use only (excluding exact list on the specific wikis)
- 2b. flag & just name of the file below (excluding any given (& not actual) number of uses)
- Thanks for clarification. You are right: There is no reason to keep both of them. Thus only one should be kept and updated regularly. As far as I know there is no template which returns the number of globalusages. So we'd have to do regular database queries (user:dispenser is the expert for such database queries). If Dispenser does not respond here within seven days, I may try to copy paste some code to create such query. Otherwise feel free to ask him on his talk page. --McZusatz (talk) 13:40, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- @149.156.172.74: sorry for the delay. Finally I have updated Top 200 flag images that should use vector graphics. Do you like it? --McZusatz (talk) 13:54, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- well, it looks like I'm deleyed now (and even much more than You do)… ;) - but I missed you're question (if by a chance I already answered to this - then sorry :); lately I have a lot on my mind & I don can't remember than I done this). Well - what I can tell now is, that I think (and assuming not only I), that this collection is a *way* clearly presented than it was before... 149.156.172.74 09:25, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Could you help me with CNX
One of the images at Category:CNX you tagged and said it needed the full URL. As it is a book, is there any way I can just cite that such as through: http://cnx.org/content/col11496/latest/ which is the books online page. I can't find and ISBN.CFCF (talk) 18:23, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- And is there any easy way to edit multiple images at once, it will take hours to go through what I have on an image per image basis opening and closing each one. CFCF (talk) 18:24, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Got the ISBN: 1-938165-13-5 now just to add it too all of the images in that category?? CFCF (talk) 18:35, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- There are some things we need to take care of:
- properly attribute
- (Optional) Link to the module the file can be found (example: http://cnx.org/content/m45985/latest/?collection=col11496/latest )
- (Optional) Give a "hotlink" to the jpeg file (ex.: http://cnx.org/content/m45985/latest/102_Organ_Systems_of_Body(Page1).jpg )
- The fist task can be done by some script, I think... Let's have a closer look at your uploads... --McZusatz (talk) 18:51, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Do you think you can do the editing by yourself using Help:VisualFileChange.js? Otherwise I need to know when you started to upload the files from "Overview of Anatomy and Physiology" to select them all. --McZusatz (talk) 19:05, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
