Cheeky picture request
Hi - I've enjoyed your Liverpool pics. My great great grandfather lived at 18 Beech Street in the 1870s. If you happen to pass by Beech Street (as you've done in the past) I'd be very grateful if you could look to see if it's one of the older houses that still survive. I've tried with Google streetview but am having trouble seeing house numbers on the even side. If it is there, a picture would be ever so gratefully received! 81.132.250.204 22:55, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- I had a look today and there is no number 18 still in existance. However the even side of the street is devided into a number of indvidually numbered terraces. Elm Terrace, Beech Terrace and Oak Terrace. I'll take some photographs of the evenside some time and upload them. They should appear in Category:Kensington, Liverpool there are already some phptographs of buildings on beech street there.--JIrate (talk) 16:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi
Thanks for your response. Sorry i dont mean to be thick but i didnt understand what you meant or it didnt answer my query. Anyhow i will just learn slowly. Scottierd (talk) 12:16, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- I am new to Wikimedia but i did take pictures of the Belle Vale area a couple of years ago, have you any advice on how to upload them? I am also interested in the Geograph.org site - same applies.
Scottierd (talk) 12:18, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
West Derby Cemetery
OK - So I noticed you removed my edit of adding Croxteth to this page. Why? It is in the Croxteth area and it makes the photo have a wider audience - so to speak - if it is linked to that area ? Certainly if you look at the Croxteth page it would have a sub category for West Derby Cemetery aswell as Croxteth Park, which makes sense, is that a problem? I realise you may be the owner of the photos and I dont mean to step out of line. Scottierd (talk) 12:27, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I think i have crossed wires here..I think your last reply was with the file for the Good Shepherd Church, which has been written as 'Good Shepherd West Derby'...when it is in Croxteth. No matter, as you say there is a Croxteth link and i will scrub the file that is effectively redundant. Scottierd (talk) 13:52, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
West Derby Cemetery
You done it again, but i seem to be making the mistake not you..West Derby Cem does have a croxteth link i did not see that. Scottierd (talk) 14:43, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, West Derby Cem is Croxteth although it is often recorded as Norris Green, although no official boundary exist (as in the rest of the city) it is usually Lower House Lane dividing Croxteth and Norris Green and the East Lancs divides Croxteth and Fazakerley. I grew up around there i know the area quite well.
As for your other info / request, i am new i really dont know what it was you were talking about. For your info i am just curious about Wikimedia.Scottierd (talk) 16:19, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- I agree i wont get bogged down over names of files (thats up to the owner of the pic) but i will keep an active interest. I do understand about defining areas for Wikimedia - although most districts can be identified. Scottierd (talk) 16:34, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:41, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello Irate!
Is this file your own work? Are you the photographer/author of this file? If yes, please insert Own as source instead of "Irate". So it is clear for anyone that you are the photographer of the image. According to Commons rules this fact must be clearly constituted.
Thanks in advance. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 16:50, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Abbatoirs
Hello Irate, I've renamed your file File:Stanley Abattoir Liverpool.jpg as asked, but I've noticed that its category seems mispelled too (Category:Abbatoirs in the UK) ; FYI, a Category:Slaughterhouses in the United Kingdom exists too. --Myrabella (talk) 13:01, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- You're welcome. The spelling "Abbatoirs" made me think of the Swedish pop music group ABBA, it's why I've noticed it (a rather silly reason indeed ;-) --Myrabella (talk) 13:49, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Also I was going to suggest you ask Ian Allen (the publisher) directly as to the absence of a copyright note in the front of the book (suggest checking the cover as well). Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:27, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

OK, Things are progressing. Hoepfully, you can establish an open-minded dialouge.
The thought was that rather than having the items as PD, it would be better to have them as some form of CC-BY-SA so that BRB(Residuary) gets appropriate crediting as the rights holder, ( I think this was done in respect of the material donated by the Bundesarkiv), and that downstream users credit them as well, whilst still being able to make use of the diagrams (and data within them.), The form of attribution wording I'd considered putting in an FUR if needed was as follows. ("This image contains material originally developed by the Railway Clearing House in the United Kingdom. As far as can be determined this material may be (C)BRB(Residuary) Ltd..") , which subject to negotiation, could be amended to a CC-BY-SA type form :).
If they are open-minded, then there is considerable material generated by the Railway Clearing House, the British Transport Comission that could be opened up for Commons/Wikisource, (without even considering material generated by railway companies themselves.)
My initial notes on this were that the key works Commons/Wikisource should clarify the status on with a view to inclusion (on Commons/Wikisource were:-
*1904 Rail Atlas of Great Britan (Railway Clearing House) *1914 Railway Junction Diagrams ( including a contemporary index if it existed) *1912 Railway Station Handbook for Great Britain ( There may also be later versions)
That said, once there is an open-dialouge, I would hope it's a two-way process :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:44, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

images with dates on
I noticed you have created a run of months of images in Liverpool within the 2010's. Is there any reason for that is it a new category ? It just seems to overcomplicate things with all manor of images. Is there any reason for the dating ? I just noticed it and didnt get it, if it was say Christmas or Beatles festival or Pope visit then yeah but this is entirely indiscriminate. I just wonder if it is needed. Scottierd (talk) 14:20, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I see no problem. It just seems to me a load of indiscriminate images based on the month. The streets of Liverpool is also questionable (in my opinion) cos youll end up with hundreds of "Streets of Liverpool" rather than just primary and semi important roads. Which is why i've been adding the local districts. Scottierd (talk) 15:27, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Im not clued up on 'policies' that is not my issue. I think you totally miss my point. Not to worry. Scottierd (talk) 15:38, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:FutureMerseyrail.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:FutureMerseyrail.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

FYI
I've been going around lately snapping listed buildings; I think it's the time to split the categories we have here by postcode, as Wikipedia itself does (to avoid bloat)- although sadly, it seems that nobody is maintaining the list articles there, Daveissimo seems to have given up editing over a year ago. Your comments welcome. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Too be onest I think it can wait till they have all been done. I wasn't that happy with the Wikipedia split up. In the mean time our time might be better spent working out which in the list have not been done. The problem with the wikilist as it is now is it bears no relationship to the councils list.--JIrate (talk) 23:26, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well OK. If my printer still worked, I'd print off the WP lists, cross-check them against the council list and English Heritage (there are some duplicates both within and between the WP lists) and identify those for which photos are needed. I've planned a trip to St Michael's hamlet to cover those missing, but I'm not going to do it while the weather is this crap. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:34, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'd do it via a spread sheet. If you have a look at an old version it might be easier to get an import going. I produced that with some C which I now cannot find parsed the whole thing, might be around somewhere in the notes. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Listed_buildings_in_Liverpool&oldid=332669964 . Reversals
Can i ask why you are reversing my edits on the category for districts? What you fail to realise is the area around the Black Bull is known as Aintree. Including Long Lane. The problem is it is in Liverpool boundaries so the council say it is under Walton, but this is not Walton. Plus i not you write Warbreck, there is no such place. This is only a name of a council ward. It is a quandary as the area isn't in Sefton but still recognised as Aintree EXCEPT for the city council who plonked a WALTON district sign. Babydoll0409 (talk) 23:00, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- It is know as Aintree to you but I can find no evidence that anyone else agrees with you and as far as Wikipedia is concerned what the Ordinance Survey say's is what goes. BTW I was born in Walton and grew up in Maghull. The oldest part of Aintree is around Bull Bridge Lane. As for the council just plonking a sign down, that is simple rubbish the border is defined by HMG. See http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/opendata/viewer/ with the correct boundary layer selected. 23:16, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Respectfully i disagree. I have not and do not question the boundaries, as they are easily identified. What i do question is this neck of the woods is known as Aintree ie Long Lane (which isn't part of this i know). You can say Walton as it is in the city boundaries, but it isn't clear cut. By the way i do also disagree with the signage as the council have many district signs in the wrong places. Babydoll0409 (talk) 12:21, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

File:Havant & Portsmouth RJD 11.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Carl Jung statue, Mathew Street
Hello
I'm writing to you because you posted an image of the Carl Jung statue outside Flanagan's Apple in Mathew Street.
I am interested in how many statues there have been, as I remember (and have found a picture of) at least one more. I have opened a discussion on the talk page here if you could comment. Regards, Swanny18 (talk) 19:52, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:NoVoTel Liverpool.JPG
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:NoVoTel Liverpool.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
