Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:40, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

B. für deutsche Schriftsteller Category:Writers from Germany.
:-) Lg Lesekreis (talk) 22:33, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement

[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Heike Huslage-Koch⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

I saw your entry to the "Surface textures" photo challenge. I don't think this counts as a surface texture as it appears to be completely flat. It has a pattern but this is printed. Additionally, is this a photograph of a poster or artwork made by someone other than you? If so then it will be copyright and it is likely to be deleted. -- Colin (talk) 08:12, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Colin, thank you for information. I can`t believe that there are problems due to copyright. But the subject and the task I have probably not met clearly. The page looked so empty, I hope there will still set many more appropriate photos. Greetings Lesekreis (talk) 12:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Photo challenge - August
[edit]Hallo Lesekreis,
Ganz liebe Grüße, Anna reg (talk) 21:55, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
Werde in Zukunft besser aufpassen.
--Anna reg (talk) 18:37, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Adventkalender ;->
[edit]Hallo Lesekreis,
Ganz liebe Grüße, --Anna reg (talk) 00:13, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Liebe Grüße, --Anna reg (talk) 10:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Please can you help translate the restriction for the black & white challenge: "The photos must be taken in March 2015 and a maximum of three entries can be submitted per photographer.". Sorry for the late change. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 10:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
I have also amended the description to be clearer: "black & white photography (not a colour photo of a black & white subject)". -- Colin (talk) 10:24, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I noticed you removed an incorrect entry to the photo challenge. I do appreciate help in fixing malformed entries (and wish we had a more automated interface) but you just removed the entry rather than fixed it. This newbie clearly didn't know the wiki syntax. I looked at their uploads and found that File:Bread Making.jpg was likely the image they meant to add. So I added this and left them a message. I think we need to try hard to help newbies, which the photo challenge seems to attract. They are the future of Commons, after all. -- Colin (talk) 09:43, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- hi Colin, mostly I correct the links to the images and insert them in the right place. Here I have unfortunately found nothing. But now everything is all right ;-) Heike Huslage-Koch (talk) 11:04, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Frankfurter Buchmesse 2011 Ehrengast Island.jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Library Walk 36.JPG
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Library Walk 36.JPG, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
