Category:Strange_road_signs_in_Belgium has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

[edit]Hi Geertivp! Is it possible to add monuments from Luxembourg to the competition in Belgium? Tournasol7 (talk) 09:35, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Tournasol7 I have asked the international organiser team if WMBE would be allowed to organise this. Wikimedia Belgium would be glad to do this. We have been already doing this in the period 2011-2016. --Geert Van Pamel 19:38, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Super, it would be great :) Thanks for your efforts! Tournasol7 (talk) 14:46, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Tournasol7 The campaign for Luxemburg is ready. Could you please verify (and when needed correct) the translation in Deutsch and French? --Geert Van Pamel 17:53, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Geert! How are you? Sorry for my late reply, but I was worked a lot this week. Thank you for your great job! French is not my native language, but I speak fluently and for me all is ok. Unfortunatelly I don't speak German, so I can't verify it. Have a good one! Tournasol7 (talk) 05:55, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Recent file renaming requests
[edit]Hi. You requested the renaming of 23 of my files. According to File naming rules it is authorized to include catalogue numbers and photographer name on the file name as long as the name remains reasonably brief and also contains a description of the subject matter, which is the case of all the files that you requested a rename of. Therefore I had to undo these edit requests and I kindly ask you to not request a rename of these files again. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards, -- Giles Laurent (talk) 21:54, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Public domain day at KBR
[edit]Dear Geert,
It was a real pleasure to attend the Public Domain Day 2025 conference at KBR today, and equally a pleasure to meet you in person! Thank you once again for your kind words about my photo and for the recognition it received.
As I briefly mentioned, I have been contributing to Wikipedia (Italian) and Wikimedia Commons since 2007. In recent years, however, my focus has shifted mainly to Commons, where I primarily upload paintings — many of which I’ve photographed myself — along with structured data.
As you noticed, I wasn’t even aware of the Wikimedia Belgium website (shame on me!), but I’d be very interested in following your activities and staying informed about your projects. I have a decent understanding of Dutch, as I’ve been working in the communications team of a Flemish company for almost five years, although I’m not fluent at all. On the other hand, my French is quite advanced, so in some ways I think I could follow Wikimedia Belgium activities.
Once again, it was lovely to meet you, and 'see you' around here on Commons!
P.S. Will the winning photo be published anywhere? I’d love to have a copy if possible.

- Nice to have met you in person. We have published a Gallery of winners. In addition to that you received a canvas of your picture yesterday. We are glad to invite you to future activities. --Geert Van Pamel 14:31, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
