I have that now corrected is that well so??

deprecated function in your monobook.js

[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I've made a mistake when I've put the licence. I've corrected the licence. Could you remove 'invalid licence' of the image? Or how I could remove it? Thanks --Mwaldeck 19:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CP Ships

[edit]

Your bot raised a question about whether the image I've recently uploaded is properly documented.

In my view, it makes sense to establish a context. Each of the articles written about these ships have photographs or artwork which were considered to be from the public domain up through the 1922 Empress of Canada, for which no images have been found as yet. The following is a list of ships added to the Canadian Pacific Steamships fleet in the early years of the 20th century:

__________________

The image in question is postcard artwork created in Canada for this Canadian company -- specifically, an image of the SS Empress of China. In the points which follow, I wonder if a sufficiently clear case is made for the image to remain on Wikipedia?

  • 1. QUESTIONED: Postcard artwork of RMS Empress of China (1891) from Simplon (UK) is not identified as being specifically out-of-copyright; rather, the web site claims all material is covered under copyright. In the context established at #2 and #3 below, I am persuaded that Simplon's claim was over-broad in regard to the specific image which is now posted with the Wikipedia article RMS Empress of China (1891).
  • 2. NO DISPUTE: Photograph of RMS Empress of Japan (1891) from the City of Vancouver Archives is in the public domain: This Canadian work is in the public domain in Canada because its copyright has expired due to one of the following: (a) it was subject to Crown copyright and was first published more than 50 years ago, or (b) it was not subject to Crown copyright, and the creator died more than 50 years ago. Please see en:WP:PD#Canadian images: Yousuf Karsh
  • 3. NO DISPUTE: Photograph of RMS Empress of India (1891) from the E. Chambré Hardman Archive in Liverpool is identified by the curators as "out-of-copyright" or public domain. In this instance, the public domain is construed by Wikipedia to mean that this image (or other media file) is in the public domain because its copyright has expired ... [which] applies to ... Canada ... and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years."
  • I noticed that some other editor on the English Wikipedia uploaded postcard artwork of RMS Empress of Asia (1913); and I think that image from the Simplon web site is adequately documented.

If I need to do something more or different, please help me understand what I need to do now and what I will need to do in the future so that I will avoid causing questions like yours to arise. --Ooperhoofd 01:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dragoon picture

[edit]

G'day Filnik, your bot is requesting source information for the Dragoon.jpg pigeon picture. I blanked it for deletion as there was an existing image (of a different type of dragoon) that kept coming up on the Wikipedia article I was creating. I don't need two images and I've now uploaded the same file to Dragoon pigeon.jpg so if you can delete the old one for me that would be great please. Gdmanning 23:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New photo of rare Penstemon to page

[edit]

Hi, I am more a photographer and less computer savy. I uplloaded a picture to Wikimedia Commons called Penstemon haydenii.jpg it is found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Penstemon_haydenni.jpg

What I was trying to do was simply add another picture to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penstemon as one of the thumbnails with resulting link. I took this picture with my Nikon F3 film camera and had the negatives converted to digital at a local lab. This plant was on the Endangered Species act, and is only found in the sandhills of Nebraska and one spot in Wyoming, in it's entirety. Just trying to contibute, but seems I have added a separate link in the page on the Penstemons that I was only trying to add to.

Any help in this? Pehaps someone else could add the appropriate tags? I have the original picture, negative and digital images here at my home in Michigan.

Thank you!

Vernon Jenewein Vljenewein 22:42, 8 June 2008 (UTC)~

I need help with this file. It was uploaded from english wikipedia, which, by the way, has changed the category tag from GDFL to GDFL images with disclaimers. Disclaiming what? I see from the explanation that a disclaimer may be for example a warning sign such as "play at your own risk". I can also imagine that a photo of something may be a risk to the security of a nation (i.e. from the army), but I do not understand what the original uploader is actually disclaiming.--Sandivas 20:35, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The vase I put in Commons, The Luck of Edenhall, is from a handout available to all visitors. I did overlook that it says on page 3 "By R J Charleston, Ceramics Department". Whether he took the pictures or merely asembled them, along with the copy, the notes do not say.

As to the handout, anyone can obtain one and that seems to me to put it in the public domain.Argee (talk) 23:59, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot Script

[edit]

Hi Filnik, I have been using your Checkimages.py script on my bot and it really is a great idea and an even better script, but I just noticed a small flaw with it, now on Commons, when anyone uses the upload form the form automatically adds this template ({{ImageUpload}} which is now being used to track which upload form the Image was uploaded with and sort them into these two cats 1, and 2) to the Image page , so even if the Image doesn't have a license on it, that template fools the bot's script into thinking that there is a license tag and then the bot moves on saying that the Images is OK. I was wondering if there was any possible way to program the bot to be able to ignore that template, I am only an intermediate Python Programmer but I was thinking that something along the lines that is used in the welcome.py script that is used to skip users that are automatically created as part of SUL might work here to skip {{ImageUpload}} as part of the Template scan on the Image pages. If that's just no possible I understand that Python has its limits and that will just have to be. Thanks in advance and All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 17:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Again :), I was just wondering if you could send me the new copy of the Checkimages.py with {{ImageUpload}} on the list of templates to be ignored so that I can run my bot (MifterBot) with the the new version and to make it more effective in tagging new Images for deletion, you could just e-mail me the code by Special:EmailUser, just post the code to my talk page, or just update the master at Botwiki:Python:Checkimages.py so that I can run the new version on my bot :). Thanks in Advance and All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 23:08, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Licences for Images

[edit]

Hi Filnik, I am copying and translating articles on German railways from German wikipedia to English wikipedia. Most of the images are fine - they are in Wikipedia Commons, but some don't work. So I copied 2 examples into my own files and uploaded them to Wiki Commons with the information provided on the originals. Both seemed to have an 'open' licence, one with the caveat that you had to quote state the author's name. I thought I had done this correctly, but the 'bot' has said

"There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you."

The images concerned are 'Krauss-Helmholtz-Lenkgestell.svg' and 'Bavarian GtL 4/4 no. 98886 2.jpg'. Help! Bermicourt(talk) 18:52, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Roba da bot

[edit]

Caro Filnik,

{{Information
|Description=Scan from the book ''La congiura catilinaria e la Guerra giugurtina di C. Sallustio Crispo e L'Eneide di P. Virgilio Marone tradotte da Vittorio Alfieri'', printed in 1903.

|Date=

Se si può fare bene, altrimenti lo farò io manina con molta calma. Grazie comunque per l'attenzione e per qualunque cenno di risposta tu abbia voglia di darmi... - εΔω 15:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Requests?

[edit]

Hi, I just manually went through the categories starting at Category:Malvaceae, it started as an interesting task due to two different definitions of where to go from there. That was a few days ago though.

I have a list of galleries which have lists of images which could or should or it wouldn't hurt much if they did (depending on what you read and where) have the gallery name applied as a category name.

Do you have wiki-software that can do this and would you use it to do that?

Difference in browsers

[edit]

Hi there Filnik, i dont know whether you have got this question before but have you seen the difference in the upload form between say Firefox and IE? It astounds me that i think Commons might have a bias towards the Mozilla browser. Say if you want to upload you own work, with Mozilla basically everything is set up for you in the form of drop down menus and ? marks while in IE it gives you nothing. A little bias dont you think? :P Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 01:37, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Airolo.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello Filnik, I guess you're the one who translated the original German text Relevanz ist relativ as Notability is notable. If this wasn't intentional … don't know, could be, of course ;-) … hmm, it isn't really accurate, and part of the gag is lost therefore. "Realativ" means "relative" or "comparative". Perhaps you can change this word? --:bdk: 21:32, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So Notability is notable what should become? ;-) Sorry but it's not that clear from your words :-) Bye, --Filnik\b[Rr]ock\b!? 12:18, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It should be "Notability is relative" or "Notability is comparative". The original wordplay in German (straight translation: "Relevance is relative") won't work that good in English, or? I think this is due to the fact that we use different terms for related concepts – WP:Notability vs. WP:Relevanzkriterien ("criteria for relevance"). Anyway, if "notability is notable" sounds funny and ironic in English too … well, it's not the original meaning, but you can also leave it as it is, of course. I just wondered about the (from my point of view) strange translation ;-) --:bdk: 18:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting complaints from User:Filbot, apparently because Image:Creation_Evidence_Museum.jpg and Image:Creation_Evidence_Museum_Original.jpg use text instead of a template to declare a public domain license. Hi, the copyrightholder/painter died over 70 years ago (in fact, he died 117 years ago): Eduard Alexander Hilverdink (born 1846- died 1891), Amsterdam, Netherlands was a Dutch painter. So the pictures are in the public domain. Could you please remove the <copyvio> tag? Thanks. It's about these two pictures: Image:Eduard Alexander Hilverdink Huis van Rembrandt.jpg and Image:Hilverdink Jodenbuurt.jpg. They are both in the public domaine. Your bot was wrong I'm afraid. You can find the paintings/pictures in: category: Eduard Hilverdink

Hi Filink

Thanks for your message posted to my talk page. I believe Image:NGV.jpg has been removed and that is OK. Currently, I have the Image:NGV, Melbourne.jpg still remaining in my gallery page, which should meet the criteria of speed deletion due to visual distorted image by my original uploading to the Wikimedia Commons.

Thanks in advance--Donaldytong (talk) 11:01, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I created the image, the description is in English and I grant a {{GFDL}} liscense. Thanks Cadams7649 (talk) 23:33, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ho sistemato, errore nel caricamento, grazie per la segnalazione ;) / fixed, error loading, thanks for reporting ;) Zeuslnx (talk) 15:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I created a page called "Jopo" on wikipedia.fr and added a picture called "Velo Jopo.jpg". I set the license to "PD-Self" but it is not yet displayed on the webpage. Do you know why?

"Bot: Marking newly uploaded untagged file" for a not newly uploaded file

[edit]

I just noticed at the help pages of es.wikipedia that one of its images had been deleted 10 months ago!

The steps leading to it where the following:

I hope it has been fixed a long time ago, but it's worth reporting. Why did Filbot tag as a newly uploaded file an image lastly uploaded more than a year before?

It was trivial for me to check the deleted revisions and find out the mistake, but without knowing the image contents, the no license delete reason is just a bit odd for image used on the help tutorial, undiscernible on a normal page. How many images could have been wrongly deleted this way? If CommonsDelinker had been running, I wouldn't have noticed it. It's sad enough that nobody noticed the red link and requested to remove it, where hopefully -being an admin involved- it would have been discovered.

I understand. In fact, I took a look at the code when reporting, and saw that it did changed a lot. If somebody knew about it, that would have been the bot author, so we should probably close as 'LIKELY FIXED' :) The bot notified the first uploader, but he stopped editing more than a year before.
Maybe the wrong cases could be found using SELECT ar_title,ar_timestamp FROM archive WHERE ar_user=185196 and ar_namespace=6 and ar_comment='Bot: Requesting source information.'; SELECT log_title,log_timestamp FROM logging WHERE log_namespace=6 and log_type='upload';, sorting the results and then looking the cases where the timestamp difference is too high.

Scusi. I stopped after the first paragraph to look the tables, did other things and looks I reset the locale when resuming. Now it should be more legible for you :) Platonides (talk) 16:37, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I should have put the fields in the other order (timestamp, title) that would make easier the sorting. You would now place have both lists sorted by timestamp (add a SORT BY <timestamp field>?) and iterate (with a script!) throught the Filbot edits verifying there is a matching upload in the other list. Perhaps I should bug DaB to get a toolserver account myself :P Platonides (talk) 14:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I used ar_title,ar_timestamp FROM archive. It's just retrieving the deleted FilBot edits. Platonides (talk) 18:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problem adding photo license

[edit]

Filnik- I read your information about my photo and I am still confused, new to Wiki and trying to digest so much. I took the photo, and really dont care if it is used somewhere else. I dont understand where the template {{PD-Self}} should go with my photo. Thanks for your assistance. Mike PS-I am computer illiterate. Yakin669

Wappen Waldbach.jpg

[edit]

Hi, you gave me a message about Image:Wappen Waldbach.jpg, so it seem, with technical references without any human readable text. Please do not ask me. I only uploaded the image from the Wikipedia in German language to Commons. I copied the entire description page with all templates expanded (since otherwise it would not work here) and all relative links appropriately substituted. My goal was to use the image in the Wikipedia of Ripuarian languages. I added a link to the description page of the original upload. If you have questions about the image, please follow this path, and ask there.

The description pages says: The image is PD with restricted usability according to Austrian law. Since this applies worldwide via the Berne treaty, I did not hesitate to upload it. Greetings --Purodha Blissenbach (talk) 13:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ciao Fil! Ci sarebbe da cancellare qualche immagine doppione che ho caricato per sbaglio... Visto che sono troppo pigro per capire come segnalare la cosa, me le cancelleresti tu? Te le elenco sotto... Grazie! --Giac83 19:35, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
