Thanks for uploading File:Missouri Reserve Military Force Oath.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Civil Air Patrol photos

[edit]

Hi Et0048. I noticed you recently uploaded File:Civil Air Patrol cadets sound off in front of Building 8-80 on Fort Indiantown Gap.jpg, which is credited to the Pennsylvania Wing Civil Air Patrol. Please note that Civil Air Patrol produced images are copyrighted and, unless explicitly released under a free license, may not be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. While associated with the U.S. Air Force, CAP is a private entity and not subject to the U.S. Government's automatic release of material into the public domain. Note also that image's source at DVIDShub.net states it is a courtesy photo, just as the site does with images from, say, Lockheed or Boeing. Let me know if you have any questions. Huntster (t @ c) 09:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Huntster. I apologize if the image I uploaded was in fact protected by copyright. The reason I thought that this image was in the public domain is because the source of the photo has a disclaimer at the bottom of the photograph's page stating it is in the public domain. I did not think dvidshub would post that copyright status unless the Pennsylvania wing had allowed them to do so. Again, if that is incorrect I do apologize; I don't know if the wing did in fact release the rights or if dvidshub has incorrectly claimed it is in the public domain when they should have used a different message. Et0048 (talk) 18:21, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's no problem at all, and is in fact a common problem. DVIDS of course tends to host only military photos, and sometimes doesn't properly discriminate between government employees and non-government. NASA occasionally does the same thing, leading to all kinds of hand-wringing when it comes to ESA and Roscosmos images, or works by private industry. Years ago on Wikipedia and Commons, it was believed that CAP works were in fact public domain, since they were established by an act of Congress and do work so closely with government entities, but they are in fact a private corporation that are simply congressionally chartered. The best rule of thumb going forward is to simply discount CAP produced images out of an abundance of precaution (we actually have a rule on that, called the Commons:Precautionary principle). Take care! Huntster (t @ c) 19:53, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
File:NAF Zemessardze 01.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

You provided the wrong source url for this Flickr image. Please be more careful in future otherwise the image may get deleted. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 00:39, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An unfree Flickr license was found on File:Smiling woman in black bikini holding glass.jpg

A file that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Smiling woman in black bikini holding glass.jpg, was found available on Flickr by an administrator or reviewer under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. The file has been deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. If the Flickr user has changed the license of the Flickr image, feel free to ask an administrator to restore the file, or start an undeletion request.

You may find it that is easier and quicker to tag such an image as for speedy deletion instead of a deletion nomination as the issue is clear and needs no discussion. Cheers Ww2censor (talk) 14:12, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr2Commons

[edit]

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first"). Elisfkc (talk) 17:46, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Elisfkc: I have switched over to that tool. Thank you for pointing me in that direction. Et0048 (talk) 23:57, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Small group of law enforcement explorers listen to officer.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Tagging duplicates

[edit]

Hello, when tagging an image as a duplicate, please don't use {{Duplicate}} with "Nominate for deletion". If you do this, it creates a mess. Either add the {{Duplicate}} tag by editing the page, or nominate the file and explain your reasoning in prose. Guanaco (talk) 06:01, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I'll do it correctly next time. Et0048 (talk) 22:33, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
File:Teacher helping students.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: unfree stock image in meta
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
