Copyright Tags
[edit]Hi Engineer111, welcome to the commons. Could you please add copyright tags and information about the source (author) to all images you uploaded? For now I have tagged your images as "Unknown". If there are no tags, the image may have to be deleted. Thanks -- :Bdk: 02:55, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Hello again, could you please stop uploading new "unknown" images and add the required information to the already uploaded ones first? Thanx --:Bdk: 03:11, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- All is from en.wikipedia. The Engineer 06:21, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hello, this short information is not enough. You really have to quote the source (the author, if possible with a link) and the license e.g.
Original titel ... black wolf sitting in front of a tree photo made by :en:User:XYZ 2003 uploaded in en.wikipedia at first 12.7.2004 12:05 GFDL
This picture is now ok, but that one has still a lack of information and will be deleted if you don´t add more information. Please also compare: Commons:Images missing information and please use the copyright tags. Thanx --:Bdk: 06:39, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Ok, I will do it. Thank you The Engineer 12:04, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
No problem ... and could you please check if a picture is already stored here, before you upload the Fennec Fox again ;-) Compare Image:Vulpes_zerda_sitting.jpg. --:Bdk: 06:28, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Transferring Images from wikipedias to commons
[edit]Hi Engineer! I see you are transferring images of waterbirds to commons. However you do neither state the license status nor the original uploader on the image page. It is not enough to put in a link to the source - those images will be deleted some time in the future and every information there will be lost. So it ist vitally necessary to move those informations as well.
Furthermore you neither put those images on a gallery page nor do you categorize them. Since there is no other information than the filename, those images will not be found anymore - the work you are doing is lost.
Please at least transfer all the information, it would be also great if you would categorize those images as well. Thanks. Peter_Aut 07:36, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Image deletion warning
[edit]Images Image:Redrump772.jpg and Image:Bootedeagle238.jpg were requested for deletion because of their usage restrictions. They used to be tagged erroneously as public domain images in English Wikipedia, where you copied them. -Hapsiainen 18:18, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Mirko Filipovic.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Image Tagging Image:Arcticfox.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Arcticfox.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS ([email protected]).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. |EPO| 18:25, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Aegypius monachus dis.PNG
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Aegypius monachus dis.PNG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Filnik 11:48, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 12:22, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.
