Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Jean-Fred (talk) 10:45, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Upload help

[edit]

It was not too helpful to add a "live" unclosed <pre> tag in the middle of that page... AnonMoos (talk) 13:48, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Argh. I'm very sorry. :-( --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 14:38, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

for reading the Village Pump and the Forum and looking for possible bugs. This is very nice, appreciated and it is important after each software update; especially since Commons is usually the first big wiki where a new MW version is deployed and the guys who developed the software don't care a lot for Commons like en:User:Anomie (claiming Commons is full of boneheaded users!), User:Bryan and User:Brion VIBBER ignoring any enquiry or User:Siebrand where you'll only get sporadically replies. Once, I started here I spent 0% of my time for hunting bugs, now it takes 60% of my time. I hope you'll stay longer at the WMF than the former bugmeister did. Good luck. -- Rillke(q?) 15:15, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Rillke, appreciated! I've tried to document checking Village Pumps and Forums so a future bugwrangler (or anybody else) can see what are (supposed to be) good practices. Part of your thanks also goes to RobLa and Sumana for telling me that I can and should spend more time outside of Bugzilla to track down Wikimedia problems. With regard to communication with others, I don't know the background or the tone in past situations you have experienced, which are always left to each individual's interpretation ("Assume people mean well" is my personal rule of thumb). With the disclaimer that manpower is limited and that priorities might differ: If you have specific issues (bug reports) in mind that deserve more attention, feel free to contact me! Again, thanks for your help to make MediaWiki and Wikimedia better (e.g. via bug reports), even if it takes some patience sometimes. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:58, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know, they're always busy and perhaps are unable to answer all querstions but they all were more active a few years ago.
P.S. there is now a very effective way reaching exactly the people you want to (e.g. doing browser, geo- and preferences-targeting) so in case of technical issues, and if we know that it will take quite a while until it is fixed, we can publish a message at MediaWiki:WatchlistNotice. I am working hard to design an UI-Wizard helping creating such messages. -- Rillke(q?) 12:40, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fehlerhafte Bildanzeige

[edit]

Hallo!

Viele Grüße, High Contrast (talk) 09:59, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Danke! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:59, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi!
Gruß, High Contrast (talk) 20:50, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 21:01, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you speak buginese? :-)

[edit]

I love how the template {{bug|23769}} on Commons generates ᨅᨔ ᨕᨘᨁᨗ: 23769 , for the language "Buginese". (You can use an interwiki link, [[bugzilla:23769|bug 23769]], instead.)

Thanks for all your work in Buginese! -- S Page (WMF) (talk) 20:10, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Uh nice, looks like somebody properly translated that template. :D --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 20:36, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your help is requested

[edit]

HAY Mr.AKlapper! First of all I thank you for listening to me. Excuse me for the trouble again. As mentioned at the Village pump I had posted all 15 undeletion requests which are still archived by a bot here with a clear note "This undeletion discussion is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive." Its thread is also given here You can find the related details of all my deleted files where individuals OTR requests were filed by the concerned uploader viz. Krantmlverma. Kindly see it once again and then advice me properly what else I have to do further? Regards Krantmlverma (talk) 04:59, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not Mr. Klapper but I try to reply here: Did you send e-Mail to [email protected] ? If so, wait for a reply or ask for the processing state at COM:ON. -- Rillke(q?) 09:34, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just asked a question in the public thread that felt obvious to me, it's not that I could investigate much more here, sorry. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:33, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A beer for you!

[edit]
Beer is the world's most widely consumed and probably oldest alcoholic beverage. It is the third most popular drink after water and tea.

Hi. I just wanted to mention that "PNG thumbnail of SVG image shows incorrect text positions when ecah [sic] letter has its own coordinates" and "Incorrect text positioning/kerning in SVG rendering (text/tspan x/y, dx/dy attribute; upstream)" are the same bug. TilmannR (talk) 17:35, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TilmannR: Thanks. I'm not 100% sure so I added a comment in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T213021#4878250 (PS: Feel free to add comments yourself in Phab if you feel like.) --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 18:06, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I found a librsvg bug (see Incorrect path error handling.svg) and I have two questions:

  • Is this bug already known?
  • Is the bug even worth creating a Phabricator task, considering that only invalid SVGs are rendered incorrectly?

Regards, TilmannR (talk) 01:14, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TilmannR: Hi, the (unfixed) issues reported for Wikimedia are in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/?project=PHID-PROJ-bb5qjbuoz6irfawtzntw&statuses=open()&group=none&order=newest#R and the issues of the librsvg library used on Wikimedia servers are in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/librsvg/issues/?state=all if you feel like taking a look. Opening the SVG file locally with librsvg version 2.44.12 draws it correctly so this likely depends on an update of the librsvg package, like phab:T193352. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 17:53, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I saw that you removed some links to files. The reason sounds fine but as these files are not public domain or CC0 the removal of the link is a violation of the license as source, license and author are now only visible if you take the link from the Wikitext. GPSLeo (talk) 13:45, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@GPSLeo: Hi, I do not believe that my changes were a violation of the license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en states that "you must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties, a copyright notice, a license notice, a disclaimer notice, and a link to the material". If I followed your interpretation, then apart from the "link to the material" which I removed in your interpretation, none of the listed requirements were in place beforehand either when looking at these wiki pages. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 16:27, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the needed information was only one click away like on every Wikipedia page. But now you have to look at the HTML code or the Wikitext to get the link. GPSLeo (talk) 15:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GPSLeo: That's correct (and the tradeoff between proper accessibility versus being able to click images only for the single reason to get the author and license of some image). However as I said, in my understanding my edits did not introduce any new license violation. Do you (dis)agree? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 16:11, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this needs a broader discussion. I opened a discussion on Commons:Village_pump#Usage of files with link to file removed. GPSLeo (talk) 16:27, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

fyi Phabricator Tutorial Series

[edit]

Hi AKlapper (WMF), Just to let you know I am unable to watch the leftmost video that appears in Category:Phabricator Tutorial Series witch you have created in 2020. I think I can watch the other 4 videos. This is not first time I was having trouble watching a wmf-created video. A few days ago I tried to watch a video of user:Asaf (WMF) which I found on the bookshelf at outreach-wiki and after spending valuable time ended up finding nd watching it on YouTube.

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 15:58, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ottawahitech: Hi, if you are "unable to watch" a video then please elaborate why you are unable after which specific steps on which systems and browsers, and what does happen when you try. I cannot fix a problem without info what the problem is. Thanks, --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 16:14, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When I try to watch https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Phabricator_Tutorial_Series Category:Phabricator Tutorial Series (Sorry I tried copying the url three times, but when I paste it in all I get is what you see) all I see is a black background in a box with a swirling white circle n the middle. On left-side tip of the box with a white background I see an X on the left and text that say PHABRICATOR.... but I said that 4 of "webm videos" Do work? Ottawahitech (talk) 17:05, 1 January 2024 (UTC) I received an edit conflict notice on this but when I look at the contribution history of this page I see it was accepted anyway, sigh... Ottawahitech (talk)[reply]
