[edit]

Hello, I don't know why you included all these templates in the maps about Ancient Greece, but these templates are providing categorizations on their own and prevent including other categorizations (deliberate less or more detailed). That is why I removed all these categories, like here. "Category:Maps" or "Category:Greece" are too broad. My best greetings, --Enyavar (talk) 15:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Des imprécisions dans la carte

[edit]

Bonjour.

Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 05:39, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sting Bien que vous ne vous souveniez probablement pas de quel site. Merci beaucoup pour la réponse.Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 05:53, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sting (talk) 15:04, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sting Merci pour la réponse. Je commence doucement à traduire les titres. Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 16:19, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,

A Greek version of your map of ancient Greece

[edit]

Hi! My congratulations for the magnificent map of Greece you created! I wanted to know if there is a project to translate it back to Classical Greek and, in that case, if I could help in some way. Anaxicrates (talk) 22:44, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the recognition! When I made this map, I was planning to translate it into Ancient Greek and Latin, but I don't have the desire or time right now. I'm busy with another project right now. If you want to help translate it into Latin and Ancient Greek, it might help you a lot if you translate it by hand! That can help you too! But it will be difficult because the names that are put on the curved line, they are individual letters. Why is that? The wiki engine on wikimedia commons doesn't handle the outline effect of overlaying text on an outline. And in this case the SVG Translate tool may not help - I don't know, I haven't worked with it. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
In the future maybe I'll start translating this map into Latin or Ancient Greek I don't know, but if I'm going to do it I'll call you guys! Go for it! Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 05:22, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This tool helps to determine whether an SVG file can be uploaded to wikimedia Commons or not. Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 05:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Пётр Тарасьев: Sorry if I reply only now, but I did not receive any notification of your answer.
Great news: I've decided to translate the map into Ancient Greek! Thanks for the information and the suggestions you provided! I'm planning to edit the map with Inkscape. Could I ask your help if, in some cases, I don't find the Latin/Greek equivalent to a Russian name? Could you also confirm that, if I translate just the Physical map, it can easily be converted into the Ethnic map (the other version of your map)?
I've decided to enter the names in the map myself, but also to ask some help to find the original toponyms. To that end, I've divided the map into areas: I'm looking for collaborators to provide me the toponyms to enter in each quadrant, then I'm going to revise them and to add them to the map.
You've already mentioned that you don't have much time or will to translate the whole map, but only in case I don't find as many collaborators as I would like (at the moment I've found two out of nine, but I can contact a lot more people), would you consider providing me a list of toponyms for just one area?
Thanks, and again my respect for the astonishing mapping work you have done! Anaxicrates (talk) 05:56, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anaxicrates:
1. Feel free to ask me anything!
2. As I understand it, you decided to make maps in ancient Greek and Latin. My map was made from the Latin original - c:File:Ancient Greece (Droysen).jpg
3. My physical map file already contains an ethnic map. I suggest you make a stream on Discord to help you. Do you have Discord? Will this be your first time working in Inkscape?
4. I offer you a different work plan: you need to divide the amount of work not into areas, but into layers in a file. I can show you how to work in Inkscape. All you need is Discord. I warn you right away that my English is bad.
5. Thanks for the recognition!)))
P.S.:
I'm waiting for your reply. I will drown with my project due to the possible blocking of Wikimedia in Russia.
Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 06:53, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Пётр Тарасьев: :
1. Thank you very much!
2. I'd already read that. However, I'm translating the map in Ancient Greek, not in Latin, at the moment.
3. No, it's my second time working with Inkscape. I'm not an expert but I can get things done. I've found the (hidden) layer with the ethnic map colours. I have Discord, but it's a long time I don't use it.
4. I think that would be more difficult for the people helping me: I want them to be able to simply look at the Latin original map and to present me lists of toponyms: in this way, only I need to have Inkscape (and to be able to use it). Anyway, I would be happy to connect with you through Discord, also to know and compliment you in person. Is your English bad? That's good: I cannot understand English native speakers. Eheh! Also my pronunciation isn't very good. I cannot do that today, but I could tomorrow evening.
5. You are welcome!
P.S.: I'm pretty confident that this will not happen. That could regard disinformation, but not Wikipedia in general, I think. Anaxicrates (talk) 08:38, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anaxicrates: In general, you work as you please. If you have questions about Inkscape or toponyms, ask, I will answer. I can stream on Sunday. Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 09:03, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Пётр Тарасьев: On this Sunday it's impossible for me. However, we could organize a Discord stream for the next week. Anaxicrates (talk) 00:41, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
