Description
English: Portrait of Thomas Johnson (governor) by Charles Willson Peale in the Maryland State Archives, on display at Government House, Annapolis. The portrait was engraved by Joseph Ives Pease and published in c. 1840.
[1] A copy of this portrait has been created and given to the City of Philadelphia for public display (hence published) in 1874.[2] Johnson's visage in Peale's portrait was copied from the Johnson's family portrait (also painted by Peale). The family painting has been published in several works, such as p. 488 of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine[3] and p. 306 of Side-lights on Maryland History.[4]
