English: Possible pathobiochemical link between hyperglycemia and mesangial TGF-1 production. Elevated flux through the hexosamine pathway results in activation of PKC. Activated and translocated PKC in turn activates transcription factors () to form a complex that induces transcription of TGF-1. Finally, TGF-1 protein is secreted and acts autocrine/paracrine as prosclerotic cytokine. |
