Deutsch: Haus Lindwurm in Stein am Rhein
Das Museum für Wohnkultur und Landwirtschaft des 19. Jh. präsentiert sich in starkem Konstrast zu seiner Umgebung. Die einzige in der Stadt erhaltene stilreine Empire-Fassade (1819/1820) erinnert eher an ein Stadtpalais denn an ein Bürgerhaus. 1571 wurden hier zwei mittelalterliche Wohn- und Handwerkhäuser zusammengefasst und um eine Etage erhöht. Niemand vermutet den stilvollen Ökonomietrakt im Hintergebäude. Der Name des Hauses spielt auf das Steiner Wappentier, den Drachen, an. Hier verbrachte der berühmte Chemiker und ETH-Professor Robert Gnehm (1852-1926) seine Jugendzeit. In diesem Haus wohnten auch Jakob und Emma Windler, die Begründer der gleichnamigen Stiftung. |
