Description

Stamp of Romania; 1975; commemorative stamp of the series "500 anniversary of the Battle of Virsiu"; This Battle marks the vicory of Stephan the Great over the Turks in the Battle at Vaslui (on the , Vaslui in the then Principality of Moldava (German: "Schlacht an der Hohen Brücke" bei Vaslui im damaligen Fürstentum Moldau, rumänisch: "Principatul Moldovei", etymological means "Moldava" = "dirty river") This battle took place between the armies of the Romanian Stepan the Great and the Beylerbey of Rumelien, Hadân Suleiman Pasha, on order of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II, after them the Turks had demanded high tribute payments from the Romans.; This painting was created by Oscar Obedeanu (1868-1915) (other catalogue: 1868-1914) in the style of the Moderne with military tendence (Historism); This painting is contemporary located in the "Muzeul National de Istorie a Romaniei".; stamp postmarked by CTO
