Nederlands: Valse of verkeerde informatie verspreidt zich verder, sneller en dieper op sociale media dan de waarheid stelt Sinan Aral, Professor of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT.

Dat is een enorm probleem als er een terroristische aanslag of natuurramp is, wanneer mensen informatie willen om veilig te zijn, dan kan dat gruwelijke individuele gevolgen hebben. Voor Sinan Aral zijn sociale netwerken en netwerkeffecten een steeds belangrijkere factor om menselijk gedrag te verklaren. Als we meer inzicht krijgen in informatieverspreiding op sociale media en met beleid valse informatie kunnen tegengaan, dan kunnen we veel negatieve gevolgen van sociale media voorkomen en hun macht in toom houden.

Sinan Aral was gastspreker bij ABEE 2016 symposium van de Universiteit van Amsterdam.
