NIEUWE TUNNEL; Weekjournaal van Polygoon Hollands Nieuws van week 17 uit 1938.; De opening van de Prinses Beatrix- tunnel te Hilversum, die na 65 jaar beide helften van de gemeente met elkaar verbindt. SHOTS: - de oude situatie bij de spoorwegovergang naast het station, met veel verkeersdrukte en een lange rij auto's voor een gesloten overgang, terwijl voetgangers (sommigen met fiets) het spoor via een loopbrug oversteken; - onder grote publieke belangstelling houdt de burgemeester van Hilversum, J.M.J.H. Lambooy, een toespraak, waarna hij de nieuwe tunnel officiëel opent; - Lambooy, notabelen en inwoners van Hilversum gaan de tunnel door, gevolgd door een muziekkapel, verklede mensen op versierde fietsen en motoren, en auto's (waaronder een reportagewagen van Polygoon).
