Description

Margaret Taylor, allegedly. However, there is a good chance that this is not actually a photo of Margaret Taylor; this book says she refused to sit for a portrait or even a photograph. This is however an etching that is said to be her and that resembles this photo; someone should try to track this down, as firstladies.org is not clearly a reliable source.

Note that, if this daguerreotype 1) is authentic and 2) was taken in 1845, as claimed, the photography session would have occured about four years before Zachary Taylor's ascent to the presidency, while General Taylor was still the commander of the US Army's southern division.
