Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lady Lange Competite racing boot from 1968, the first women-specific design.

The Competite was the counterpart to the "generic" Comp model, but differed dramatically in form. The Competite used a single large closure flap stretching across the entire front of the boot, whereas the Comp used finger-like extensions like those on modern designs. This particular design note would not last long, follow-up models of the Competite also used the finger-like closure, and these have remained in use to this day.

This example is from the collection of Sven Coomer, a boot fitter at Mammoth. The photo was taken by David Steers some time in the 1980s, the date tag is bogus.
