One of the most prominent landmarks that dot the backdrop of the Mattancherry area is the majestic Clock Tower, situated right next to the famous Paradesi Synagogue. Commissioned to be placed here by the well-known local businessman Ezekiel Rahabi in 1760, it was characteristic of the unique history and culture of the locale.

Fully functional until 1930, the clock would indicate the passing of each hour by striking and signalling the entire area dutifully. The clock tower, about 45 feet long, has four faces with numerals in Latin, Hebrew and Malayalam, with one side being blank. The dial facing the Maharaja's face has Malayalam numerals, the one facing the synagogue, Hebrew and the third one, Roman. Thus it helped all its diverse inhabitants including the Maharaja, the local people, the Jews and the traders keep track of the time.
