[edit]DescriptionHurricane Michael of 2000.JPG |
Hurricane Michael was spinning about 250 miles off the Carolina coast on Wednesday, Oct. 18, with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour (120 km per hour). This true-color image, acquired by the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) shows the hurricane located about 370 miles west-southwest of Bermuda and heading north-northwest at the stately pace of 7 miles per hour (11 km per hour). The storm was expected to weaken considerably by Thursday, Oct. 19. Michael is the thirteenth named storm in the Atlantic this year. Forecasters predicted there would be thirteen storms in the 2000 hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30. |
