Scilla, with a castleoccupied by the English in 1807.The Charybdis of the ancient poetsstood facing it on the opposite coastof Sicily, but its exact position isnot known. Through a rich andcharming garden of fruits andshrubs we reach (287 m.) Villa S.Giovanni, from whence a steamferry in connection with the railwaycrosses the Straits in 25 min. to(5 m.) Messina.
