English: Numerous safety upgrades have been made to the various trail crossings along the George Washington Parkway between the Mount Vernon Trail and Memorial Circle.
The newest upgrade is to the easternmost crossing (shown first in this video) with the installation of yellow flashing beacons that are button-activated by trail-users. Other crossing upgrades have also been shown for comparison. My personal opinion is that the first and last crossings shown in this video should feature HAWK signals that would force traffic to stop, giving trail-users a safer crossing. I am, however, appreciative that the National Park Service has installed the flashing beacons, as feedback from their use will affect future improvements to other dangerous crossings in that area. Video was taken by me with my ContourROAM helmet camera on 12/7/2013 |
