Description |
English: Plate 512, Figures 54-57 from Elementa chemiae : quibus subjuncta est confectura lapidis philosophici imaginibus repraesentata ... / Johannis Conradi Barchusen by Johann Conrad Barchusen, 1666-1723. Luduni Batavorum : Apud Theodorum Haak, 1718.
At the tail end of the golden age of alchemy, Johann Conrad Barchusen took a stab at clarifying alchemy’s allegorical imagery by describing as clearly as he could the processes being depicted. He juxtaposed the mysterious images with the chemical apparatus used to carry out the procedure. |
