Summary

Description

Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland

English: Cassandra Hand Centre at Ball Alley, built in 1858/9 after the design by Roderick Gray in the Gothic Revival style as school for females for Cassandra Hand, wife of Thomas Hand, rector in Clones. The school helped to establish an industry of lace making in Clones. The building was recently restored with fundings from the Heritage Council and opened as Cassandra Hand Centre in 2006. (See Kevin V. Mulligan, The Buildings of Ireland: South Ulster, p. 276, and a close information panel.)
