Summary
[edit]DescriptionC. L. Northrup House, Milford, Michigan - 20201214.jpg |
English: The C. L. Northrup House, 304 Liberty Street at Hickory Street, Milford, Michigan, December 2020. A contributing property to the NRHP-listed North Milford Village Historic District, this charming cross-gabled Italianate cottage is most notable architecturally for its unusually elaborate window crowns, representing the style beautifully with low-pitched pediments, baskethandle arches underneath, and elaborate wooden carvings. Classical elements come into play courtesy of the shed-roofed porch adorned with modillions and supported by stylized Tuscan columns, as well as the framing around the large windows to the left of said porch and around the corner, featuring Doric pilasters and prominent bracketed window crowns. The house was built in 1872 as the home of New York-born hardware store owner Carnot Lee Northrup (1825-1891), who also served three terms as village president. |
