Description
English: A Brunton Pocket Transit, a specialized compass used by geologists and other field-based surveying over long distances. From left to right: The mirror, with line and sighter on top of the mirror, and window to look through the window; millimeter scale on side of mirror; hinge with angle measurement on side (set at ~50 degrees); the face, with azimuth degrees around the outside of the face measuring 0-359 degrees, the needle (with North hand pointed at 79 degrees); the bubble level; the inclinometer (set at ~30 degrees), a magnetic declination setting (green point on the outer ring, set to ~15 degrees); on the outside of the face is the damping button (with arm projecting from it seen in face); and finally, a sighting arm to the right.
