Summary
[edit]DescriptionAkkana Basadi north eastern view.jpg |
English: Akkana Basadi is a 12th-century Jain temple located in the Shravanabelagola complex in Karnataka, India. Built in 1181 CE during the rule of the Hoysala dynasty, it is dedicated to the Jain Tirthankara Parshvanatha. The temple is renowned for its simple yet elegant Hoysala architecture, featuring intricately carved stone pillars and a peaceful setting. The temple features a square sanctum (garbhagriha), a vestibule (sukhanasi), and a hall (mantapa) with intricately carved stone pillars. Unlike other highly ornate Hoysala temples, Akkana Basadi is more restrained in its decoration, focusing on clean lines and minimal carvings. The temple houses a black stone idol of Tirthankara Parshvanatha.
