The Administrative Division of the Nakhichevan Khanate in 1828.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Nakhichevan Khanate was a khanate that existed from 1747 until 1828, when it was disestablished by the Russian Empire in 1828 and reorganised with the Erivan Khanate into the Armenian Oblast. The khanate was divided into 2 districts, 9 mahals, the district capital of Ordubad and the khanate capital of Nakhichevan, this map shows that administrative structure alongside the borders of the khanate itself. The khanate claimed the region of Meghri up to the river of Kapan which was annexed to the Karabakh Khanate according to the Treaty of Gulistan (1813) until the end of the Fifth Russo-Persian War (1826–1828).

The borders of the Nakhichevan Khanate are based on natural boundaries (watersheds, ridges, rivers) that separated the villages of the Nakhichevan Khanate from the villages outside the khanate. The mahal boundaries are based on natural boundaries that separated the mahal villages where applicable, otherwise they follow approximate lines separating the mahal villages.
