Summary
[edit]DescriptionAcantholytic squamous carcinoma (52048888894).jpg |
Acantholytic squamous carcinoma, also known as adenoid, pseudoglandular or pseudovascular SCC, has been reported most frequently in the skin and appears to be rare in the lungs. It is characterized by loss of cohesion between tumor cells due to loss of adhesion molecules at desmosomes that may result in gland-like and vascular-like structures that may be misinterpreted as adenocarcinoma or angiosarcoma respectively. These tumors consistently express squamous markers such as p40 and p63 which are used to confirm the diagnosis. Images contributed by Dr. Rola Ali - @DrRolaAli |
