There are possible copyright issues with this file. Please await the outcome of the 7-day deletion period of en:File:WikiProject Zoo Logo.JPG as the resolution of the copyright issues for that file will carry over to this one. If that file is deleted as "no permissions" then this one should be deleted as a copyright violation after giving the uploader an addiional few days to address the copyright issues. Confused

[edit]

I am a bit confused and need help understanding the issues here. ZooPro stated that this was his own work. I don't see anything about http://www.erik.com.au/australia-zoo/ anywhere except in the deletion notice for File:WikiProject Zoo Logo.JPG. Is this where it was uploaded from (I don't know how to find that information, but I assume it exists somewhere)? If so, is this because it was uploaded from an institution or company rather than a personal account? If this is the case, I will need to watch where I upload things from as well, since I usually do Wikipedia work on my work laptop at home (it's more conveniently available than my desktop downstairs). When I see images on the Commons (or for that matter, "free" images on the English Wikipedia) that are based on obviously professional-quality work without an OTRS ticket on the page, I ask for proof that the uploader owns the rights or that he has the authority to speak on behalf of those who do. All it takes to keep the image is for the copyright-owner or his legal representative to email OTRS. Please see File talk:WPZOOTOP.jpg and en:File talk:WikiProject Zoo Logo.JPG for additional info.
By the way, there is some evidence that the uploader has a close connection to the Australia Zoo, so it is entirely possible that the rights of the image are owned by the zoo and that he has the legal authority to release this image on the zoo's behalf. I hope he does have this authority, because the 2013 image is fantastic. The full image from which it was cropped, without the words, would be worthy of being considered for picture-of-the-day or some similar recognition. Thanks for the explanation. He is associated with the Australia Zoo. This much is pretty clear from some posts during the flood a couple of years ago -- he did not keep it a secret. If my guess of his identity is correct (not guaranteed of course), he does have the authority. Unfortunately, his activity on WP over the last year and a half or so has been rather spotty. Hopefully he will see the request in time. Donlammers (talk) 00:16, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a way of contacting either him or someone at the Zoo who you know has the authority, that might help. Davidwr (talk) 03:16, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Further delay requested

[edit]

In light of Donlammers's comment of 00:16 1 January 2014 (UTC) above, I replaced the "7-day speedy deletion" template (en:template:di-no permission) from en:File:WikiProject Zoo Logo.JPG and replaced it with a "possibly unfree file" template (en:template:puf) to allow for a slow discussion regarding the fate of the similar file on the English Wikipedia. I am requesting that this discussion remain open until en:Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2014 January 5#File:WikiProject Zoo Logo.JPG is closed. Davidwr (talk) 20:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I have emailed en:User:ZooPro regarding this issue. Davidwr (talk) 20:50, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Uploader only recently became aware of discussion

[edit]

On the corresponding discussion on the English Wikipedia, the uploader says that he has the legal authority to speak for the Zoo and is willing to contact OTRS. I have asked him to do so and to put {{OTRS pending}} on the images at which time I will close that FFD as "speedy keep." I will do the same for these files when he puts the same template on the images hosted on the Commons.

This is the best possible outcome. In the meantime this discussion should stay open and the images should not be deleted. Davidwr (talk) 04:36, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Kept,
English: OTRS pending.
