The file might not be considered de minimis, as it is the key/central part of the image. 2NumForIce (speak|edits) 00:00, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep The giant text is "the key/central part of the image", not the artworks. They are either whited out where you can barely recognize them or out of focus. Nyescum (talk) 00:15, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep Although some sub-images taken in isolation would not be de minimis (for example, the green and black figure in the bottom left and the Vietnam image tucked in the Z), the key part of the image is clearly the text, and the other images serve as little more than background noise/setting. On enwiki a version without the text exists under fair use, as the artworks are the central part of the image in that version, but the focus is clearly different here. Eiim (talk) 16:53, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- If we are going to consider this minimis image, the others posted on the r/place page should also be considered 177.129.68.220 20:54, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep its about people placing one pixel at a time, not about any integral artwork. If users chose to collectively write ‘fuck spez’ in protest, and the article is about r/place, it should stay. Removing it is just revising history to fit someone who doesn’t like its narrative. Mghabmw (talk) 21:50, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Speedy keep Looking at the De minimis guidelines the image seems to fall under #4. There is identifiable copyrighted work, but it is not the main subject of the image, and it is unavoidable. For example, if this image is considered de minimis, where the copyrighted material is much more clear and prominent, then surely this r/place image can be considered de minimis as well since it is not nearly as clear as the example I gave.Alin2808 (talk) 22:04, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep The big text saying "fuck spez" is clearly the main part of the image, it is what is drawing attention. Everything else is de minimis. Matr1x-101 {user - talk? - useless contributions} 22:05, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment This discussion may potentially face some indirect canvassing from Reddit. We should be aware of this going forward. Di (they-them) (talk) 23:33, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Agree I think we should close this as quickly as possible, to avoid these kinds of false and negative posts to spread (hence why I changed my vote from keep to speedy keep). Alin2808 (talk) 23:39, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep Per others. White text is the only key/central part of the image. All other drawings are greatly obscured, have too much white color noise (as much as beyond recognition), and are pixelated. –Vipz (talk) 02:33, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment I would probably pick a sample of the “fuck spez” timeline that is a tad bit more obscured. Keyword: “tad bit”. I still think it’s de minimis though. Qwertyxp2000 (talk) 10:52, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Kept: Consensus is clear from the community that this image falls under de minimis. Closing this DR quickly due to concerns about some indirect canvassing from some Reddit threads (per Di (they-them) and Alin2808) (non-admin closure) Matr1x-101 {user - talk? - useless contributions} 11:03, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
The amount of content here is overwhelmingly copyrighted; more importantly r/place is a single collaborative work so this is NOT de minimis because there whole thing is an artwork and the text is merely part of it Dronebogus (talk) 00:59, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Speedy keep De minimis and COM:INUSE, per the previous deletion request thread. The copyrighted images are either too small to see well, or when viewed at full size, are deliberately pixellated with white spots. All of them are a background to the words. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:13, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Comment If there's issues with copyrighted things being shown, the solution would not be to delete it but to downscale it. However, I don't know about which license was given for the collaborative artwork...this isn't just text which would be de minimis...tend towards keep but it seems like people did not participate with the info that the result will be CCBY (maybe blurring the background would be something to consider).
- Prototyperspective (talk) 13:45, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Speedy keep We've had this discussion before, it is de minimis.
- Speedy keep No other argument, just the same thing the last nominator said. Nyescum (talk) 11:04, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep. I don't see any fresh arguments to delete apart from those from the previous DR. There is a decently overwhelming consensus that this is COM:DM so we're just doing the same thing over again in an unproductive way. S5A-0043Talk 10:21, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hmm, I mostly see the image as "Hey, this is when the r/place contributors put a huge 'FUCK SPEZ!' text in the 2023 canvas as a form of protest to Reddit." Now sure, there's still a lot of copyrighted content, but I think most people will focus on the absolutely giant text. Even applies when you downscale it! I think that's what {{De minimis}} is, though. Speedy keep. SergioFLS (talk) 23:01, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- I think what the focus of the image is is largely irrelevant in that regard: CCBY means people are also free to cut out images or icons that are anywhere within the image. The reason why it may still be de minimis is because all of those are low-res pixel-art and have lots of white dots in between. Prototyperspective (talk) 09:43, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- "CCBY means people are also free to cut out images or icons that are anywhere within the image." Maybe it means that in general, but there is lots of precedent on this site for accepting panoramas on the basis that copyrighted buildings are de minimis in them but deleting cropped images of individual copyrighted buildings. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:49, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Either it's CCBY which means people are free to modify the image such as cropping things out or it isn't. It's not a what-I-wish-to-be-true thing. Prototyperspective (talk) 08:38, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Commons has been applying policy the way I stated. This seems like a larger policy discussion, so I would suggest for you to start a discussion at Commons talk:Deletion policy. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:23, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

The Tour Bretagne may not be the main subject here, but the focus is on another copyrighted building. According to this site, the Post Office Building of Nantes dates to the 1980s. This means the designer/s of the building are not yet dead for more than 70 years for it to be in public domain. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 00:53, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

- @Rodrigo.Argenton I don't think this is eligible for {{PD-structure|FRA}}. It is not part of a series of housing units with same building design, or an ordinary residence like a regular house. It is an office-type building made by a named architect, unlikely to be replicated across the country. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 05:47, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in France.

It's a pity there is not more focus by some on progressing Lithuania to allowing FOP so that the great work of the artists, sculptors and creators of the country can be more widely appreciated and presented to the rest of the world in essentially a non-commercial environment. It is relatively much easier to delete someone's work from this forum than to create it in the first place, and in some of the photos nominated the work in question (eg Vilnius Landmarks 103.jpg) is not the primary focus of the image or the work is essentially in shadow so not a challenge to artistic content. From past experience it is probably a forlorn hope but reconsideration of the images included in the above list would be welcomed, not only by the photographers but by those interested on selflessly promoting the work of Lithuanian artists. --SM:!) A bunch of Museum labels from the Louvre Museum, done by Onceinawhile. This stuff was temporarily useful to give a meaningful name to the related photographs, but they are Out of scope / Not educationally useful. Also some of them contain copyright violations of texts done by the Museum. Maybe we can keep the few well centrer and not blurry ones for Category:Museum labels in France but most of them where quickly done only to remember the subjects of related photographs done in the same day / same place. --Miniwark (talk) 13:23, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

- With reference to File:Early Barbie doll en suite 01.jpg and File:Early Barbie doll en suite 02.jpg (admittedly not among my better photos), and possibly some others here (I haven't looked through the batch) I would guess that the only elements here that were copyrighted and had their copyrights renewed are Barbie and Ken, who make up a pretty small portion of the pictures, albeit arguably constitute its main interest. But I'm not weighing in either way on the issue, you're welcome to delete these if people think it actually raises a copyright problem. - Jmabel ! talk 20:20, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- So dollhouses aren't copyrighted? In that case, those two pictures are probably fine. --Stefan4 (talk) 16:37, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- But note COM:FOP#United States: "The term building means structures that are habitable by humans and intended to be both permanent and stationary, such as houses and office buildings, and other permanent and stationary structures designed for human occupancy, including but not limited to churches, museums, gazebos, and garden pavilions." I'm not sure if a dollhouse is permanent, stationary or designed for human occupancy. --Stefan4 (talk) 20:27, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Delete Searching all the copyright renewals would be a pain, but RE0000280638 and RE0000280637 are renewals for 1958 Barbies, which seem to protect all later Barbies.--Prosfilaes (talk) 01:41, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

This is the only illustration of such work which appears in Wikipedia, thus this photograph existance is justified and required. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.164.52.50 (talk • contribs) 2012-02-19T18:54:30 (UTC)

- Delete - indeed, these images constitute derivative works of copyrighted material. According to Commons:Derivative works, "action figures do not have utilitarian aspects and are therefore generally copyrighted as works of fine art." These images (barring the ones pointed out above) seem no exception. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 14:00, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- keep - I dont understand why you would want to delete these.(File:Barbie Fashion Model.JPG). It is not copyright violation if you use the image of an item that is copyrighted in a creative commons sense, especially if that image was taken by an individual (such as the one I quoted, which I took). Memory Alpha does that all the time with respect ot screen caps from various Star Trek shows/movies - which are all copyrighted materials. With that regard, you might as well then delete all pics on wikiepdia because what they photograph is copyrighted in one way or another. Image File:Barbie Fashion Model.JPG was modified by me in terms of how the doll's hair is done and how she is dressed. The original dolls wasn't even dressed like this or looked like this. By that account, every person who uploads a picture of a fashion doll on flickr, let's say, would be prohibited from doing so. And everyone taking a picture of a barbie they want to sell on ebay is also also violating copyright? SOFA and PIPA havent become laws yet. This just doesnt make sense. --CarrieBee (talk) 17:31, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, those people are violating copyright, unless it qualifies as fair use. However, Commons doesn't allow fair use. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:02, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Keep all. The main problem I see here, and with these kind of multiple nominations, is that none of the pictures were taken by the same person in the same place. Multiple countries permit a total freedom of panorama—including 3D and 2D art, somes with the condition that should be taken in a public place (File:Sunning (2179966897).jpg), but public place is not necessarily a park or street; or even if the toy still copyrighted in the country of origin. If you want to delete them you have to investigate where they were taken, if the toy still copyrighted and then nominate them onr-by-one. Tbhotch™ 22:25, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Other example of what cannot be considered a copyvio or fair use is File:Study of a murder on a Barbie figurine.jpg, where the toy is not visible at all. Tbhotch™ 22:26, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- The sculpted details are.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:23, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- With rare exception, countries with FOP only include permanently installed works. File:Sunning (2179966897).jpg was taken in Hawaii, and FOP doesn't apply at all for sculpture in the US.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:23, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Unless tagged with {{FoP-Israel}} or anything similar, I think that we have to assume that photos of dolls are unfree per COM:PRP. --Stefan4 (talk) 23:37, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Delete. Unfortunately, I don't believe any of these images qualify for Commons (for reasons stated by others above). However, several of them would most definitely qualify as "fair-use" for use on Wikipedia. That being said, most of these aren't exactly "first-class" images and I believe most could easily be removed without much detriment to their respective articles (no offense to any of the photographers, but many appear rather "amateurish"). The remaining images that appear to be well-done could be reuploaded to their repsective Wikipedias with "fair-use" rationales (although I admit that will create a lot of "busy work" for the editors left to do the "clean-up"). I'm not a "professional" photographer, but I have access to a large assortment of Barbies (from various eras) and could easily take some nice professional looking photos to fill in some of the "gaps" that may result after the majority of less-than-steller images are removed. --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 11:44, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- Keep all, for the reasons that Tbhotch mentioned above. Acdx (talk) 12:12, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Deleted: It would appear that the copyright on Barbie dolls was renewed, making the vast majority of these non-free derivative works, which are strictly prohibited on Commons. - Keep, the image is not a violation and is used as the lead image of a major article. Go rain on some other parade. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:52, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Randy Kryn, on what basis do these pass COM:TOYS? Why do you think it's at all relevant that it's currently in use? Cakelot1 (talk) 20:04, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Per COM:TOYS, Barbies are copyrighted by default. Excluding an advertisement that would need its own copyright notice and a few de minimis cases.
A few have tags indicating there was not copyright notice, but every box I've found from the relevant time period includes a copyright notice (for example [1] [2] [3]). It's hard to dig up the box for exact models, but the burden for that is likely on those claiming there was no copyright notice rather than the other way around.
Nominating photos from an exhibit in Italy, which does not have COM:FOP. Excluding museum exhibits in places with FOP (like those in Category:Barbie Expo), but I suspect those should be nominated, too, as temporary exhibitions rather than "permanent displays". Leaving those for someone else, though.
See also: the many other nominations on this page for the same reasons.

- Delete Per the nominator and past DRs where the same or similar images were deleted. Not to mention at least a few of these are questionably in scope to begin with anyway. --Adamant1 (talk) 20:55, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Keep File:Catwoman Barbie.jpg We have been through this before with sculptures of artworks. The image is okay in Australia due to it being a free country (ie one with FoP). It is CC in the US because I took the image and licensed it as such. WMF legal has fought and won cases on this basis before. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:06, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- FOP is typically just for things situated permanently in a particular location (The exception generally applies only to works on permanent public display.). The idea is to exempt things like buildings and major public art. I'd be surprised if Australia were different in that regard, but I'd be happy to be wrong. — Rhododendrites talk | 01:49, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- I've never heard about any WMF legal battles over FoP. If you cite the case, then we can be edified by the details, the arguments, and the resolution.--Prosfilaes (talk) 20:32, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Delete both for the obvious reasons and because it would indirectly kill the ridiculous debate currently going on at w:talk:Barbenheimer Dronebogus (talk) 14:56, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- In my experience, exporting disputes from enwp to Commons is unhelpful, and might even push annoyed Commons admins to lend more credibility to the other side. If you opt to remove that part of your comment, you're welcome to remove this response, too. — Rhododendrites talk | 15:49, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Keep the image being used on Barbenheimer for page relevance and out-of-copyright information on the image page. Please do not remove the comment above (you can strike words out) as an example of bias pertaining to the RfC. Randy Kryn (talk) 05:36, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Randy Kryn, as you did in the last vote, you've used the argument that the image shouldn't be deleted because it's in use. But that's completely besides the point since we don't keep copyright violating works just because they are used. The argument is that the "out-of-copyright information" is incorrect, and you have not engaged with those arguments made in the nom. Cakelot1 (talk) 07:13, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- Delete per the well argued nom. It is possible that some of these are public domain but without evidence (and per COM:PRP) we can't keep them based on a possibility Cakelot1 (talk) 07:16, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- At least think out of the box and leave the image that's on the Barbenheimer page alone. You don't think if Mattel wanted it taken down they would have contacted someone? The page has had 1.4 million plus views since a photo of Barbie has been up-front, and of those views I would think that the Mattel company, its attorneys, its law clerks, its board of directors, and its secretaries would have clicked on the page and know that one of their dolls is being featured. They all know it, yet nobody got on the horn or filed a complaint. Mattel is perfectly happy having it up there! That's obvious, and because the copyright is still being questioned, and literally nobody cares to legally contest its use, at least leave it until this unique film-combination period moves along a bit and the page goes back to normal viewing. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:27, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- "Nobody has complained yet" isn't a reason for keeping anything. Images on Commons must be usable and modifiable by anyone for any purpose. Our policies are in place to protect not just Wikipedia, but everyone who uses the content. If someone would be opening themselves up to litigation by taking our Barbie photos, putting them in a book or on a poster, and selling them, we cannot host it. People need to know when they go to Commons that the license is reliable. "But it's used in an article" is irrelevant. If you would like it to be used in an article and not hosted on Commons, that's what en:WP:NFCC is for (for local uploads to Wikipedia). There's probably a good case for NFCC when it comes to the main Barbie article. — Rhododendrites talk | 22:51, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- That makes sense. Would you or someone please add the Vintage Barbie 2 cropped to the Wikipedia files (The one being used on Barhenheimer now)? I'm not computer savvy enough to add it and yes, the Barbie page could argue for it for sure and the Barbenheimer page could have a good case. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:06, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I don't there's much chance you'd get an WP:NFCC Rationale for the Barhenheimer page. As to the main Barbie page Wikipedia would probably want a clearer and up to date image than "Vintage Barbie". Best to leave it until/if this deletion happens. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 07:07, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- ^^ If you're going the en:WP:NFCC route, you can pick an ideal photo (like one from an official Mattel website, even), then just upload it locally to wikipedia and follow the prompts to explain why it qualifies for NFCC. Actually, it looks like the main Barbie article already has a couple non-free images: en:File:MattelBarbieno1br.jpg and en:File:Oreo Fun Barbie.jpg. If you wanted to upload another one, you could use the templates on those pages as a template. — Rhododendrites talk | 13:31, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Can't do uploads on my computer, which is why I asked. The image used on Barbenheimer fits that page well and serves as a counterpoint to an image of Oppenheimer within a double-image. The reasoning for its use at Barbenheimer would be as representative of the portrayed character per the use of the Oppenheimer image. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Randy Kryn, it "fitting" or looking good isn't enough to get for WP:NFCC unfortunately. Even in the main barbie article I can't think of any non-free justification (the section doesn't say anything about the barbie in question). representative of the portrayed character, simply isn't a strong enough reason. And non of this is a reason for keeping it on commons, which is what we are discussing here. (I have the original flikr upload bookmarked so if there is suddenly an extremely good WP:NFC based reason I can always upload it to wp, although this sort of discussion should really be happening at w:Talk:Barbenheimer) Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 22:18, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

- Comment FYI, this and this. Nyxaros (talk) 20:10, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- As the nom noted there doesn't seem to be any evidence of Pd-no-notice, and non was provided in those DRs. The user asserting no-notice doesn't seem to be the photographer so it doesn't seem wise to take that without evidence. Mdaniels5757 (and the closer IronGargoyle), if there's some obvious evidence of there not being a copyright notice on this particular barbie (when others at the time had them), it would be much appreciated if you could point it out. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 09:33, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Per nom, we'd need evidence of no copyright notice on the original boxes to justify keeping the images. Di (they-them) (talk) 23:55, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- Keep Barbie on a black cross as transformative and de minimis. The rest are probably unjustifiable, unfortunately. David Eppstein (talk) 20:39, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, but whether it's transformative is a consideration of fair use, which Commons doesn't accept, and the doll is the focal point (and title) of the image. — Rhododendrites talk | 02:50, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Comment - I already nominated one of the files for deletion here Commons:Deletion requests/File:Black Barbie from 1980 in the box.jpg. Should I request that DR to be closed for this one? (Oinkers42) (talk) 15:14, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

- Keep Yes, "Source: Google" is dubious, but the images seem to be properly attributed to painters who have died long ago. So the images are all PD. As per official Commons Rule, a 2D reproduction of a PD painting does not add a new copyright, so it doesn't matter whether the uploader scanned the file themselves or took them from somewhere on the internet. PaterMcFly (talk) 12:34, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @PaterMcFly: there is no problem with the copyrights (although some paintings are shown with their frame, which makes these images non-PD). The problem is that the "somewhere on the internet" that you so rightly mention is not indicated. Google is just the search engine that was used to find these pictures on several different sites. Which sites? We aren't told, and that's the problem. --Edelseider (talk) 14:09, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- So the problem is that we cannot verify the author without a source? I agree, that should be improved, but if we have no copyright issue, we shouldn't delete the images but take the time to fix that. Some of the images are even in use, so we can assume that the painters are properly attributed. All images seem to have the collection/museum where the original is in the description, so this should technically be sufficient to verify the PD status. PaterMcFly (talk) 14:43, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

- Keep Of course, I vote to keep all these images on Commons. For each file, I have always indicated the name of the author of the painting (according to the most recent published research), and the place of location. I have always categorized all of these files (exept perhaps a few oversights, my apologies) with the category of the artist concerned. I recognize that I should also have included the categories related to the subject (iconography) and the place of conservation, but this information can be completed. Regarding the source of the file, it seems to me that these works are in the public domain (as the faithful reproduction of a work in two dimensions, and whose author died more than 70 years ago) and that the information on the source (website...) can be added, without it being necessary to delete the files and thus destroy several years of work.
--VladoubidoOo (talk) 15:49, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep per PaterMcFly. All these images need is someone to go through, however painfully, and add sources. I've already tried to provide a source for File:Cazes Christ guérissant l'hémorroïsse Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris.jpg. It'll just take some time.

- Keep No copyright issue. All are in the PD. -- Herbert Ortner (talk) 09:12, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- @VladoubidoOo: well yes, of course, you have several days to correctly fill the Source field with the link to the page from where you downloaded each image before uploading it here. It's not like there will be a mass deletion in a few hours. But you cannot keep "Source = Google", because the next stage would be "Author = paintbrush".--Edelseider (talk) 17:34, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Edelseider: of course, and I agree. However, I need to be sure that the files will not be deleted in seven days by a bot, as the banner that has been integrated on each of them suggests (having a job outside of my activity here, I won't have time to correct all the sources of the files by then). I will be able to make these corrections as I go, over the next few weeks, but it will take time. --VladoubidoOo (talk) 21:28, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- A deletion discussion (such as this one) is never closed by a bot, only manually by an administrator. They can leave the thread open for much longer than 7 days if there's no clear consensus nor any obvious reason for deletion. So take your time. PaterMcFly (talk) 06:16, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

- Keep Per PaterMcFly. No apparent copyright problems. Yes the source is, well, yes, but the photos are PD in the first place. We can always add the source back in, though this may take a while since, well, so many files are listed. S5A-0043Talk 11:22, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

- Delete I think it would be appropriate to grant the deletion request at this point. The garden looks like private property to me. I think that the user basically has a good reason for not wanting this property, which really has no purpose for us, to be published here, regardless of why the image was uploaded in the first place. I think the alternative image would be a fair compensation. I mean, does it really depend on the color of the sky? I think we should delete the image for the benefit of the person who uploaded it. --Lukas Beck (talk) 20:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Speedy keep per previous DRs, and not close to identical. Also, giving up to people who make repeated ill-founded deletion requests is a very bad practice, because it encourages them. Finally, I don't think it's up to you to presume that this photo " has no purpose for us." I think you mean no purpose for you. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:17, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

- When I wrote it, I didn't think in FoP and if it works for it, it would also work for other copyrighted images that are temporarily in the street like movie posters. And I think it wasn't placed in the street for it's lifetime, only for the two weeks of election campaign. --Sebasweee (talk) 11:16, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Well, the intended lifetime of election posters is the election campaign or less, since they are glued somewhere and removed or covered by other posters at the end of the campaign or even before. In fact, this one had already started being covered by an unrelated poster by the time the photo was taken, despite of being uploaded before the election actually took place.--Pere prlpz (talk) 15:18, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- If FOP can be used here and in the photo of the other deletion request, maybe adding Template:FoP-Spain will be enough. I added this deletion request and the other one because I wasn't sure that these two photos where allowed here.--Sebasweee (talk) 16:04, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

This photo, which works as a logo, isn't simple enought for being a "text logo" or "simple geometry", the link doesn't say anything about if it's copyrighted or not Sebasweee (talk) 11:52, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Sebasweee I understand that may not be the correct Copyright cathegory. In any case, this electoral symbol made by Sumar is based on the file Yolanda Díaz en reunión.jpg which is copyrighted as cc-by-sa-4.0. Also I want to also discuss the file Papeleta SUMAR Generales 2023 (con logo).svg which is a combination of the file we are discussing and Sumar_logo.svg which is indeed a "text logo". I'm open to change the Copyright cathegory to be correct, as I may did a mistake labelling it, but for me it is a free use file. - AytoEru (talk) 12:12, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @AytoEru, the photo Yolanda Díaz en reunión.jpg is on Yolanda's Twitter and there isn't any information about the creative commons license.--Sebasweee (talk) 13:27, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Sebasweee even if the photo Yolanda Díaz en reunión.jpg is uploaded in Yolanda Diaz's Twitter, the file in Wikimedia its licensed as cc-by-sa-4.0 and labelled as own work by its author @AntonMST29. This photo has been in use in Wikimedia since 2021.
- In any case, we are discussing Papeleta SUMAR Generales 2023 (sin logo).svg and it is a derived work from a CC photo so, there's no doubt about its free use. I am going to procede to change the information in Papeleta SUMAR Generales 2023 (sin logo).svg to add that it is a derived work. Please, considers this as an evidence of its free use. - AytoEru (talk) 13:39, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Sebasweee now, Papeleta SUMAR Generales 2023 (sin logo).svg is clearly copyrighted as cc-by-sa-4.0 and in the author section is clearly identified that it is own work derived from a cc-by-sa-4.0 photo, so no doubt is remaining in its free use. - AytoEru (talk) 13:44, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @AytoEru, I'm not sure of it, but if it's correct, we can continue with the cc-by-sa-4.0 license.--Sebasweee (talk) 17:56, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Derivative work of a modern-looking painting. I found it impossible to find information on the artist and therefore impossible to confirm whether pictures of the painting are acceptable on Commons. --Cryptic-waveform (talk) 15:28, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Brian Wellman was a notable abstract painter in acrylics in london in the 90's and 2000's. Of course it's derivitive, it derived from the image of Elvis and makes fun of his gold lame suit. There are no other paintings I have seen that look like this sillouette. It was a humerous part of the road trip to have "Elvis" visit places along I 75. Most of you in USA know little or nothing about canadians. I have seen well known writers etc, deleted from here because some (####) in the US hadn't heard of them. His father was dieing in the mid 2000's and he left London to care for him. He had displays with gallery shows with the London new Arts Festival and The London Arts council. Keep. Photo Archives (talk) 16:59, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- The issue here is not notability, it's copyright. See Commons:Licensing#Derivative works. Did Brian Wellman agree to license his painting under cc-by-sa-4.0? If not then these pictures can only be hosted on Commons until he agrees to do so or until the painting enters the public domain.

- Thank you for the feedback. If you can upload it without watermark, preferably in higher resolution, I'm happy to stop my deletion request. You can scroll down on the file page to "file versions" > there you find a link to upload better versions of the image files.
- In addition, it would be even better and more valuable for Wikipedia, if you could add some more details about the motives: where exactly the images were taken, what we can see.
- Thank you. Albinfo (talk) 13:52, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

While the uploader undoubtedly took this photo, it seems unlikely that it is eligible for release to an "own work" Commons licence as the product/character represented is likely rights protected. This is a photograph of a copyrighted logo hosted on en.wikipedia.org [4]. This photograph is clearly not de minimis, focusing exclusively on the logo. Unknown Temptation (talk) 11:53, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- I took the photo myself. I photographed the Frosinone Calcio store, which is located outside the stadium, therefore in a public area. The photo I took is of an external wall of the store building. I really don't think it's forbidden to photograph an external wall of a building that is outside the stadium, in a public space, outside. It is certainly not prohibited by Italian law, as the photo was taken in Italy. -- Sardognunu (talk) 12:51, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Not 'de minimis'. The photograph display only the logo, it's not possible to check than it come from a public area. It would need to be a photograph of all the store to be 'de minimis'. Miniwark (talk) 14:15, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

GoogleMaps CopyVio. (???)
Okay, this one is a LOT more tricky. It shows a well-defined extent as per the description, but it's also complete uniformly in the light blue that Google uses for water surfaces. One could argue that the mapping style (including the color palette) belongs to GM's copyright as well, so we would be able to host the color yes - but not while promoting it as the GM color for water.
One might argue on the other hand that Google can't own copyright on uniformly blue screenshots. Enyavar (talk) 22:21, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

The file is a portrait of Bruce Adamson taken by Scottish Parliament, which licenses the image under the Scottish Parliament Copyright Licence (SPCL, detailed in the file's EXIF information). This was a logo used by AS Roma in the 1980s and on occasion still used by the team on merchandise and throwback shirts. Extraordinary claim to be the original author of this logo and no evidence offered for it. Unknown Temptation (talk) 11:44, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

- There are no sources. In 1934 the Comintern gave its support to the idea that the Macedonian Slavs constituted a separate nation. Prior to the Second World War, this view on the Macedonian issue had been of little practical importance. However, during the war these ideas were supported by the pro-Yugoslav Macedonian communist partisans, who strengthened their positions in 1943. After the Red Army entered the Balkans in late 1944, new communist regimes came into power in Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. In this way their policy on the Macedonian Question was committed to the Comintern policy of supporting the development of a distinct ethnic Macedonian consciousness. In 1945 the population was proclaimed to be ethnic Macedonian, a nationality different from Bulgarians. With the proclamation of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia as part of the Yugoslav federation, the new authorities also enforced measures that would overcome the pro-Bulgarian feeling among parts of its population. - Speedy keep COM:INUSE, and all of this sounds like history. All nations are ultimately fictional, as there's nothing objective about boundaries or dividing people based on anything in particular, so whatever may have been propaganda in the past that successfully or unsuccessfully incited the development of a national identity is topical for encyclopedias. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:00, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- You’re right about being in use and therefore it should be kept. The rest is just nonsense, sorry to say: «All nations are ultimately fictional» — yeah, if you’re talking about Elves and Orcs, maybe, or if all you know about “nations” is fake Anthropology as in the U.S.-centric mislabels "Caucasian" or "Latino" (and I’m sure you know about these matters more deeply, given your Babel). In the context of this DR, the word "nation" means ethnolinguistic community, seen in a territorial and diachronic perspective. The o.p. contends that this clearly modern map (not a historical document) showing 1937 census data is an attempt at falsifying history, since the ethnonym "Macedonian" (as a Slavic-speaking community) was not in use before the mid-1940s. That may be true (as Bojan implies) or not (as Jingby says), but it should be easy to check the original census data and how exactly it’s labelled:
- Are Slavic-speakers termed Bulgarians or Macedonians in the 1937 census date this map was based on? (Or, better: is the Slavic language covered here labelled as Bulgarian or as Macedonian?)
- Is there 1937 data matching these numbers?
- Is there 1937 data matching these map boundaries?
- Was there indeed any 1937 census at all?, or was this map fully made up from thin air?
- That’s what we could be discussing here: As said, not a reason to delete the file, and not a reason to ruminate about all borders being subjective — but surely a reason to tag it with {{Disputed map}}. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 14:11, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

- A lot of nations didn't exist before World War II, which doesn't make them "fake" now (I may be misreading you from limited data, but you're coming across to me as being like the subset of Zionists who say that Palestinians don't exist because there was no Palestinian nationality as opposed to Syrian Arabs until some time in the 20th century), and moreover, there are nations such as Switzerland that are not based on a single language and various nations that are not defined by ethnicity. I can't read either Bulgarian or Macedonian, so I don't have an opinion about the document, and I wouldn't know whether there was a 1937 census, but what I do know is that there is nothing permanent about boundaries, and nations rise and fall. How many of the nations that existed 2,000 years ago still exist today (sure, China - there are some - now take it back another 2,000 years)? And don't try to make me as an individual American whose mother was a famous very real anthropologist answer for bullshit U.S. designations like "Caucasian" that derive from 19th-century pseudo-scientific racism. But since we agree to enforce the relevant policy, that's the end of the discussion, really. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:50, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- No census was conducted in the Kingdom of Bulgaria in 1937. It was in 1934 and there were no people who self-identified as Macedonians on it. Jingiby (talk) 07:34, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- Cool. So those are facts, then. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:15, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- Then let’s add {{Disputed map}} to this file page, warn editors about this in the talk pages of the articles that use this image, and close this DR. When this file becomes unused, a new DR can be opened based on the notion that this is an unused map with fake data and no historical interest — should this be instead a scan of a printed map widely circulated in the 1980s, with the same contents, now that would be a historically interesting forgery. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 14:26, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

- I was planning on doing a deletion request for the Azerbaijan stamps at some point if no one does nominates them for deletion in the meantime. - Keep These are PD in the Ukraine as official documents, so they should be fine. This is similar to a photograph of a mural of a copyrighted character that falls under FOP. --PaterMcFly (talk) 12:17, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Delete See my comment in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Mickey Mouse on stamps and prior DRs for similar images that resulted in them being deleted. Not to get to down in the weeds about copyright law, but what this comes down to is that there's zero evidence that a third party releasing an image of an otherwise copyrighted work under a free license modifies the copyright of the original. Like if I were to release a public domain document containing Disney characters in it that wouldn't mean Mickey Mouse is now is PD, if anything I'd probably be sued. There's also zero evidence that these stamps were released with permission from Disney or were designed by them. A country like North Korea can release stamps containing Disney characters all they want, but at the end of the day so what? We need actual evidence that the original characters are now in the public domain, which we don't have and these are clearly stock images in the meantime. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:01, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep I think the other DR was adjudged incorrectly. Let's look at it this way: There's no way that Disney's legal team authorizes the creation of these stamps without the knowledge that Ukraine's laws (and Azerbaijan's in the other case) will make these specific images public domain. Of course, this doesn't mean other depictions of the same characters are also public domain, just the ones that are on these stamps. —holly {chat} 00:38, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
