- No signatures are present on the images, which were published by newspapers a hundred years ago. I suppose the author should be called anonymous, rather than unknown, and the images entered PD after 70 years. --Jonund (talk) 19:25, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

this is property of Texas state, not a Federal image TCO (talk) 06:05, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- I researched this a little. First, the site the uploader referred to as the source is a state site, not a federal one. Second Texas maintains a strict warning on their copyright. Third, original uploader is not here. Was able to find this image used at two federal sites, one crediting it to Texas, the other with no comment.
- I looked into getting a donation request from Texas, but they want the request in writing (as it's commercial use) and I will not bother. Did find a couple alternate free images that are truly federal. Not as good as this one, but uploading the best illustrative one.TCO (talk) 06:09, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Can find no indication this was really Federal image TCO (talk) 06:43, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- The listed Federal site does not use this image. I also looked at several documents on their site (species preservation plans, Powerpoints, etc. where they would want to use the image, but did not (but did for other species). Only Federal picture of this species is a drawing. A while ago, this image was up on AL state website, but now it is not even there.TCO (talk) 06:45, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
