Roma in the centre of Gotland was originally the place of the Allting, the early Viking-age parliament of Gotland. In 1164 a Cistercian monastery was founded there, which fell into ruins after the reformation of 1530. The ruins of the monastery are still to be seen. Afterward the place got the residence of the gouverneur of Gotland. Nowadays it houses a open-air-theater in the ruins of the monastery, a coffee-shop und centre for local handicraft. Glass is a local speciality.
