Description:

Abbreviated as LSEV, low-speed electric vehicle is a category of small, electric, and low-speed vehicles in Mainland China often used as a mean of transportation by the elderly and senior citizens, hence the term "老头乐”(Pinyin: Laotoule, derived from 老年代步车 (Laonian Daibu Che)) used to describe these cars in China. They look similar and mimic regular cars, however, they do not require proper registration and license plates. This type of vehicles gained popularity in the early 2010s due to competitive and affordable prices as well as environmental incentives. They gradually became a common sight in more rural, smaller cities and towns.

In recent years (as of 2024), A ban on LSEVs has taken effect in China due to safety regulations as these types of vehicles are public traffic hazards because they do not require a driver's license to operate, therefore they lack proper license plates and cannot be insured.
