English: The Counts of Toggenburg were a noble family from Eastern Switzerland. The focus of their possessions was the «Toggenburg» region, from which they adopted the family name. The counthip was given to them circa 1209, as the first source in which they're called counts was from this year. The family resided at Alt-Toggenburg (ruins in the community of Kirchberg, Canton of St. Gallen); the majority of high-ranking members of the family were buried in Toggenburgergruft in Rüti Monastery.
