Commons logo
editHi Pumbaa, and welcome to the Commons. Just wanted to say, great work on Image:Commons-logo.svg! If you're able, it would be nice to have an SVG replacement for Image:Commons-logo-en.png. User:dbenbenn 08:03, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Done: Image:Commons-logo-en.svg. But the auto-converted PNG versions are erroneous :( Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome! -- Pumbaa80 02:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- I replaced the embedded font, which is not supported by the Wikimedia converter, by paths. It now displays correctly. --Pumbaa80 13:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Indian flag
editHi! WRT your recent changes to the Flag of India, I would like to point out a big inaccuracy. The charkha (wheel) at the centre is 75% the width of the white bar. Please would you correct it? (See w:Flag of India for details.) Regards, Nichalp 06:38, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Right. There seems to be a striking difference between the Indian flag law and the practically used flags, since the latter ones show chakra wheels at significantly larger diameters than 75% of the white stripe (up to 98%). I read it on [1] and in the German wikipedia article. Anyway, this might be a canard. I'm not an Indian ;-) --Pumbaa 05:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm temporarily reverted your version as it incorrectly reflects on two featured articles: w:India and w:Flag of India. Feel free to upload the corrected version over it. Regards, Nichalp 07:13, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I should have asked before uploading. Let's continue this talk on Image_talk:Flag_of_India.svg --Pumbaa 05:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Wire colors
editNice job on the SVG wires in Category:Color code. I've replaced the PNG versions with your new SVG versions on the English Wikipedia. Just wanted to point out that writing "See en:Image:25 pair color code chart.png for details." in the descriptions is a little silly. That page will probably be deleted eventually, and then all the links will be dead. If you have the energy, it would make sense to put any relevant details here on the Commons. (Though honestly I don't see anything at the EN page that would need to be kept.) Cheers, User:dbenbenn 19:44, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
- You're right. I thought it might be fair to give credit for the original work. But I guess the remark Please don't delete this description page. on en:Image:25 pair color code chart.png is noneffective after all. So I'll edit the descriptions once I get around to doing it :-) --Pumbaa 20:00, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
- Done. 14:24, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
:BTW: Have you noticed the bugs? I left a message at the village pump. Very strange... --Pumbaa 20:00, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
US Flags
editI don't know what the correct tag is. It's not pd-old. The images are in the public domain because they are flags. But I got flack about that on the en wikipedia, which has deprecated the pd-flag tag. I put pd-self on them because I created them myself.
The images which were already in the commons were wrong. I'm uploading versions with correct colors and layout. If someone wants to spend hours recreating them accurately in a text editor, they are welcome to. Otherwise, the incorrect versions should be removed in favor of more accurate versions. 30 extra kilobytes never hurt anyone. Likewise, rounding numbers to 7 significant digits is not such a big problem. :). --Jacobolus 02:29, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the correct licence tag, but I'm sure that your flags' layout can't possibly be correct, since you've used approximated coordinates. For example, the stripes have different sizes, and the stars are not really exact stars. --Pumbaa 02:36, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- well, the existing versions colors can't possibly be right, because they differ from the standard Pantone color swatches. If the stripes have different sizes by .0000001, does it really matter? --Jacobolus 02:37, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- It could. When you scale down the flag to very small sizes, the resulting effects might be strange. --Pumbaa 02:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- well, the existing versions colors can't possibly be right, because they differ from the standard Pantone color swatches. If the stripes have different sizes by .0000001, does it really matter? --Jacobolus 02:37, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, my bad (at least for Image:Flag of the United States.svg), I just looked at the source files, and it looks like the colors are identical. I think my eyes must have been deceiving me, because I was sure I saw a difference when I looked at the flags side by side. I've reverted to the old version --Jacobolus 07:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- To clarify further, the stars in the versions which were there may be exactly perfect, but if they are in the wrong places, for instance in Image:US 30 Star Flag.svg, does that matter? --Jacobolus 02:41, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Also, I don't have much more time to spend on this in the near future, but if someone wants to tag all the old images as duplicates, update pages where they occur to the correct versions, and delete the inaccurate images, that would be great. My main concern was the US Flag page, which I made png versions of these flags for a year ago. They were recently replaced with the wrong svg versions, so I wanted to put correct svg versions back up. :) --Jacobolus 02:37, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Please note that I didn't intend to talk down your work. I just wanted to help make improvements. :-) You're welcome to change an existing image, but in that case you should not upload two versions of the very same image. If you feel that an image is not correct, just overwrite it. That saves the trouble of deleting and updating. --Pumbaa 02:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that maybe makes sense. There were 3-4 different conventions before, and I wanted to standardize on something clean and simple, so that I could just copy and paste the name, changing the number, from one to the next. And I'm really not trying to be an attention-hogging jerk or anything. I think making clean, editable versions is definitely the way to go. So I hope I haven't come off as dismissive at all. --Jacobolus 03:00, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi Pumbaa. Speaking of flags, here's a new challenge for you if you like: can you make an exact version of Image:Flag of the United Kingdom.svg? User:dbenbenn 18:14, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely! I just need the dimensions... Google gave me [2], but I don't know if that's correct. --Pumbaa 21:20, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think it is. Done. --Pumbaa 21:54, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, those dimensions are right. Great! User:dbenbenn 22:55, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Vielen Dank--Lambdacore 18:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Erledigt.

Special:emailuser
editHi,
I've found that the links you provided to contact you on Commons:Service de téléchargement de fichiers do not work anymore (Special:emailuser/Pumbaa80 appears to be disabled). Please could you fix this either by removing yourself from this page or by enabling back emails or by specifying your current email address on this page?
Many thanks in advance,
Best regards from France,

editHallo Pumbaa80. I've used the Image:Olympic rings.svg, created by you, to create two other images, Image:Olympic torch current event.svg and Image:Olympics current event.svg. If there are any problems, with license or whatever, please contact me at my swedish page (I'm not checking this project often enough). Thank you. Grüße // Mankash (talk) 22:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Hey, Pumbaa80! I have a tiny, tiny request for help. I'm looking to create a simple SVG image, but i'm terrible at making them. After not really getting any help by leaving messages to users on Wikipedia, i thought i should look at some of the great SVG images already in use on the website, and obviously i ended up on the above image. First of all, well done for making an image so widely used :)
So the image i'm looking for is very simple. I'm looking to get a red flag, with a white star in the middle of it. It doesn't really get any more than that - the image is shown in the top of this image, as well as this image. I understand its hard to see but if you could help me even the tiniest bit that would be amazing :D
I figured it should be around the scale of normal flags, i think its 4.5:3? that may not be true. The image is to be used on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:TUGS as well as a userbox along the same lines as that, which i've not yet made.
Again, if you could help me, that would be amazing. If you manage to sort anything, give me a reply at my Wikipedia talk, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:SteelersFan_UK06 :) --SteelersFan UK06 (talk) 22:59, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Pumbaa, your image could not have been more perfect. Thank you so VERY much. --90.213.6.46 23:17, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Another Request
editHi Pumbaa! Thanks again for the image you made me. I come again with another request.
I'm now looking for an image that looks very similar to the one you made already. This time, I'd be looking for a black flag, same res as the last one, with a white circle in the middle. Do you think this would be possible? I promise that after this, I won't bother you again!
Give me a message on Wikipedia again if you get anything sorted. Thanks again for your help. --SteelersFan UK06 (talk) 01:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

A Big Favor
editHi! I noticed that in the past you had made a flag for Honduras. But now someone has changed it and I was wondering if you could somehow change it back to its original form. It is now a sky blue but used to be that darker blue. If I could do it myself I would but I have no idea how! Im asking a huge favor of you bud, so could you please consider helping us out! Thanks so much man!
- Hi Oak27, you can simply restore the old version by saving it to your disk and re-uploading it via the upload form, as Flag of Honduras.svg. I won't do it myself since I don't want to be involved in any edit wars. Please bear with me --Pumbaa80
Sorry, but No...
editI understand you, but no, The Honduran law says it should be this way. If you want to get convinced, I can show you the reañ Honduras Law. Greetings. --Ricardo P. (talk) 03:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 23:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

You made a factual error in one of your images.
editHello,
This vector image that you made (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Electron_shell_093_Neptunium.svg) states that the electron configuration of neptunium is [2,8,18,32,22,8,2], this information is false, as it's real configuration is [2,8,18,32,22,9,2] a simple proof if you are skeptical, add up the electrons in the first configuration, you get 92, which implies that Z=92, which is a uranium atom, which is not the case; add up the second configuration you get 93, which implies that Z=93 which is the real deal, neptunium atom.
Please sir, I urge you, as author of the image, and to be kind enough to fix the issue. Thank you for your time.
Thank you in advance. Anonymous.

Berkelium
editHello.
This image (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Electron_shell_097_Berkelium.svg) seems to contain an error. It says that berkelium's electron configuration is [2,8,18,32,26,9,2]. Other files say that the electron configuration is [2,8,18,32,27,8,2].
If you would be so kind as to fix this error,

Your content in Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision museum exhibition
editGood afternoon,
My name is Lotte Baltussen, and I work at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. We are the archive of Dutch public broadcasters and hold many other types of audiovisual heritage as well. We have recently opened our new exhibition "3FM Presents: Your Serious Radio", which looks back at the last 50 years of pop music on the radio.
One of the interactives of our exhibition is a videomapping installation that depicts a teen room. When visitors enter the exhibition, they provide information that builds up their profile: their year of birth, gender and the favourite radio show, song, musical genre from their teens. This information is used to recreate their teen room; a sparse white space with 25 different elements such as a white bed, desk, and couch that are projected upon when a visitor activates his or her profile. We've divided the teen room into 10 time periods: 1965-1969, 1970-1974 and so forth.
In creating the videomapping, we have used countless free to use images, textures and patterns, among which is your smiley design. We'd like to thank you very much for making your content available and thus making it possible us to use it. You can find a complete overview of the content used here, a blog post about the whole process here and pictures of the videomapping here, so you can see your content in action.
Thanks again!
