Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Are you able to provide the appropriate license based on this OTRS-mark at da:Diskussion:Horsens Kunstmuseum ?

The photographer Jette Holst is in this respect working for HorsensLeksikon.dk/ that has allowed the material to be used via the OTRS-mechanism

The file is croped from File:Udby Kirke (Vordingborg Kommune) - kalkmaleri.jpg here om Commons with an accepted license. Which license template should I use. Can I just add {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}?

checking copyright

Hello! Please help! Your name is on a picture of Julius Wellhausen at Wikipedia commons, and I used it in the article Biblical criticism. The article is going through FAC and one commenter has asked when and where was it first published? The current US tag states that it was published before 1923, so we need to confirm that. I am an image kindergartner. I have no clue whatsoever how to obtain that information. I was kind of hoping you either had it or could tell me where to go and what I need to do to find it.
