EurAsEC Customs Union

edit

Hi Kolja21, would you be able to create a map of the new EurAsEC Customs Union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus which went into effect January 1, 2010. I am going to create the article for it, it will be EurAsEC Customs Union, and is currently at Eurasian_Economic_Community#EurAsEC_Customs_Union. I don't know how to create maps, but having seen yours, assume it wouldn't take you too long? Thanks ONULaw23 (talk) 12:48, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi ONULaw23, where is the difference between the en:Eurasian Economic Community, the Common Economic Space, and the EurAsEC Customs Union? I'm specialized on EU-maps and not shure, what the map should look like. --Kolja21 (talk) 01:37, 30 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Map error

edit

You made the map [1] and the future version [2]. It seems that you mixed up the Latvian and Lithuanian currency symbols on these maps. Maybe you can fix them?

You list the Swedish currency symbol as "Skr". Note that this symbol is very uncommon. Usually, people use "kr" or "SEK" instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.247.11.156 (talk • contribs) 18:17, 8. Aug. 2010 (UTC--Kolja21 (talk) 22:43, 8 August 2010 (UTC))Reply

Thanks, you are right! I'll fix it. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:43, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Karten-Update

edit

--Kolja21 (talk) 22:03, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Creating reference EU map files

edit

Hi, I noticed that you've done a lot of work with EU map files and that, specifically, many of those files have been designated cronologically. I would suggest that, for reasons of reducing duplication of labour, there should be a reference, or "main", file that is used in wikipedia articles and is updated to be current, so that it isn't necessary to change every article using these files every time a change happens. Cronological archive versins need not be affected by this streamlining. What do you think about this? --U5K0 (talk) 11:06, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's a good idea! If you look at my user page you see that I've already started to differentiate between "Main maps" and "Maps with timestamp". --Kolja21 (talk) 15:40, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Map sizes

edit

Really nice job you are doing out there with the EU maps. One suggestion/comment I would make that the animated gifs you make should be of slightly larger sizes (or is there a way to have them vectorized animations?). Nergaal (talk) 04:24, 1 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not that I know of. If I've got time, I'll try a larger version. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:01, 1 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Animated SVGs are possible, but kinda messy, see e.g. File:EC-EU enlargement.svg. — Christoph Päper 19:36, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

EU as a single entity

Thank you so much! Do you use Inkscape? I really want to learn how to do this job. Cheers --Kolja21 (talk) 13:06, 1 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Re: We know the future!

edit

Excuse me, but it was not my invention. This news was reported by one of the most authoritative italian newspapers (owned by Fiat-Chrysler) and by the italian Public Television RAI (very authoritative) and the map was updated based on those sources: La Stampa and RaiNews. I'm not "figuring out the future". There are reliable sources.--L736E (talk) 19:08, 25 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi L736E, it's no big thing. But you wrote: "Albania acknowledged by the European Council as an official candidate on June 24th, 2014." La Stampa wrote: "L’annuncio del commissario europeo all’allargamento, Stefan Fule: ..." en:Štefan Füle left a message on Twitter. This is not the same as an official decision by the en:European Council. Füle is not even a member of the European Council. Cheers --Kolja21 (talk) 20:05, 28 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

EMU/EWU 2006

edit

I have noticed that you created various en:Eurozone and en:EMU maps throughout euro history. The only map still missing in your 'collection' is about EMU in 2006 with Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania still in en:ERM II. Could you create one ? --Barzdonas 18:08, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I'm not acitve at Commons right now. But I keep it in mind. It would be the map File:Europäische_Wirtschafts-_und_Währungsunion-2006.svg. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:08, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:Europe subregion map UN geoschme

edit

I would like to ask you to shade in Armenia as pink Eastern Europe for this map. Armenia is classified as Europe by the UN and it doesn't make sense that land all around Armenia could be considered Europe but not Europe itself. --Steverci (talk) 16:13, 24 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steverci, you are talking about the File:Europe subregion map UN geoschme.svg? Looks strange but it's correct. This list classifies Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Cyprus as "Western Asia". Small parts of Georgia and Azerbaijan are "Europe", so these countries shade with a light pink. (It's not the same pink like Eastern Europe.) --Kolja21 (talk) 21:24, 24 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
There are no fixed European borders, historically ranging from Constantinople to the Caucasus. What exactly decides "small parts"? No mention of that in your link. The World Atlas lists Armenia as part of Europe and is a more important source. --Steverci (talk) 16:30, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Of cause there are no no fixed European borders. But this map is about UN geoschme. So if you want to change it, you have to write to the UN. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:33, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:EU on a globe.svg and File:EU27 on a globe.svg

edit

Hello.

Can you add South Sudan in File:EU on a globe.svg and File:EU27 on a globe.svg and in other similar international relations SVG maps where it is missing?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files on 1 March 2018, now it is reduced to less than 640 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Kindest regards.

Update needed

edit

Hi Kolja21,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:European Union as a single entity.svg is out of date. The UK has left the EU Could you update it? Thanks again. Gce (talk) 00:27, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I know. The map is marked {{outdated}}. Unfortunately, Great Britain has no hidden borders on this map (XML code). It can't be updated and needs to be newly created. Please use File:European Union main map.svg instead. --Kolja21 (talk) 01:14, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

  UN Geoscheme
Dear Kolja21,

My name is Aisling.

I am a Dentist and I have carried out research on mouth cancer in Europe.

I found your UN Geoscheme map of Europe very useful.

My research has been accepted for publication in IJERPH ( public health journal).

I am wondering if you would grant me permission to use your UN nations geoscheme map in my publication?

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind regards, Dr. Aisling AislingOS (talk) 06:42, 20 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
